La radio quitte le 211, Gordon à Verdun

PC

Here is a picture of the 211 Gordon building. I guess they will erect condos as it is so lucrative.   Guy   ARCHIVES SHGV

The radio station is going into the memory bank.  We lived at 215 Rielle St. Our back veranda and shed faced the station. I drove for the first time in my life in their parking lot. Played in the snow that was piled up there in the winter, it was a blast. Still happy times.   Dina Steenhorst-Penning Cobourg, Ont.

Hello Dina ,....my back gallery stared right at the old CKVL building and it's big radio tower in the back:I see by your age you would be that same age as one of my sisters (she turns 50 Aug 25th,nect month),....So we most likely have at least passed each other in those lanes,..... In the photo that Guy posted you can see the Richard School in the background, they always had an ice rink in their yard, and all the kids from the neighbourhood used it quite often,as well as using the little front yard for playing football (on Galt Av side,.btwn the two staircases), Guy5479:   if you read this ,perhaps if you have a chance ,could you see if somewhere in that CKVL station bldg,....there may be a picture of the Big Tower ,in the back,...I'd like to see a picture of that ,if they have one,.........all the pictures of the old Station,.......I haven't found one showing that Tower ( I climbed that thing as a kid,..much to the dismay of the CKVL watchman ,who couldn't catch me.............hahahaha  ) it was surrounded at it's base by a large chainlink fence with the barb wire at the top of it,...but it proved to be no obstacle to the neighbourhood kids,..........hahahahaIn anycase if you can find a picture showing the Tower ,that would be great,....i would think there must be some really great old opictures ,somewhere in that old building,it would be a shame if they were lost to the 'wrecking ball',..............the tower, by the way ,has been gone for many years now,so a modern day picture is out of the question.........it ceratinly was a Verdun Landmark in it's own right,....standing watch over us for many years ............. ........................     Lots of kids around Verdun ,got their taste of fame ,by going to the Amateur Talent Shows ,held in the back of these studios:            "Have    Fun    and      Remember     Verdun "

Hi Les ! Did the CKVL tower look like this from your home ?   BTW, did you climb up to the top. I remember when they built that tower (early 50s, I was student at Ecole sup챕rieure Richard on Galt, it was our backyard). Apparently, only the Mohawks were able to build this kind of structure. JM

Hi Les,   We skated at the school too, went to the church across from the school on Galt Ave. It is still there.  We drive by it everytime we are in town. Funny,  I have now lived longer away from Montreal  then I lived there, but it will always be home to me.

I remember they used to have amateur night at CKVL on Friday nights.  All the local kids would go and sing or dance and when we left the studio, at the end of the show, they would give us free Laura Secord suckers or, sometimes, pink pop corn.

The wellington tunnel is not filled in just bypassed. In fact you can see Robert De niro walking in it in the film The Score.

Guy, I wonder if you noticed that the Neon sign reads DANCING, as prior to being CKVL it was the Woodhall Dance Hall. Which also had quite a history.   Gordo

Gordo, Sorry, I am not familiar with the dancing in the building. Perhaps some  members can help us. Guy
