Hi there !
Re: bus route 8-D Beurling in Verdun (for the period 1953-66)
Is there somebody who remember the bus route 8-D Beurling (1953-60: Beurling 8D and 1960-66: Beurling 59) in Verdun ? ... and was that loop one-directional or two-way ?
In that period, the loop was as follows:
From Wellington and Woodland, then Wellington, Lasalle Blvd up to Stephens, then on Beurling, Champlain Blvd and return south via Woodland.
Thanks in advance !
JM

JMH...the 8D or 59 from Lasalle,Wellinton north on Woodland to Champlain and Woodland.Made a left hand turn and headed west to Stephens Ave.Made another left hand turn and headed south on Stephens. When it came to Lasalle it turned left at Lasalle. Headed east to Woodland turning left and starting all over again. Steve
I thought the #59 came right back down Beurling and then went back down Woodland truning at the transfer park, and returning back up Woodland .......etc etc etc ,......or was this only later on,....i cannot recall the bus actually being on Lasalle Blvd from Stephens to Woodlamd on Lasalle,...........but could that have been an earlier route than early 60's ? HF&RV
When I had to take the bus to and from St.Thomas Moore school,it made a circle or to V.C.H.S.Maybe I'm from a different Verdun. Steve
I still don't recall it travelling on Lasalle Blvd,......but the route may have changed at some point,.or I just don't recall that ,......I do Remember it going along sephens and Beurling and doing the Woodland thing, but I still seem to Remember it travelling both ways on Woodland,.....Mind you I took either bus to get to VCH, if the 59 was at Woodland when I got off the the 58 ,.I would take it ,as it ravelled to the school,....Once I had left Verdun,..i uised to take the 110 in to VCH from Lasalle, and get off right near that photo your son took ,of the field at VCH on Beurlling..........as for being from a different Verdun,,,(wouldn't surprise me..............hahahahah) HF&RV

Steve, would you mean that the bus travelled only in one direction (one way loop) ? JM
Les, I have never travelled on the Beurling bus. I was just wandering if the bus rode the loop in both direction (the loop was so small) Your comment: but I still seem to Remember it travelling both ways on Woodland,.....Mind you I took either bus to get to VCH, if the 59 was at Woodland when I got off the the 58 Effectively, a two way loop would have been more common ! JM
JMH which year was that route,.....I still can't recall that one ,...but I am thinking in the years from 66---and up certainly 68,......I thought it (#59) travelled from Wellington up Woodland ,left on Champlain/Beurling ,straight to Rolland then up to Champlain left on Champlain 1block left again on Stephens, left again on Beurling....to Woodland ,back down Woodland to Wellington,..and around the Transfer Park ,and back up Woodland,.........but as I mentioned earlier post that ,I took the #59 only if it happened to be at Woodland when I got there,.as it went to VCH.......the destination at that time circa 1967-68? Interesting,........guess I was never on a 'round trip' ...........hahahaha I usually got off at a destination,........mind you the school officials would question whether I ever actually got off to 'Go' to school.........at least the Attendance officials. hahaha Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Les, here is a map of the route (only for the period 1951-66) Unfortunately, I don’t have the map after that period. You mention Rolland St., I suppose that you are referring to 1951. (Were you born in 1951 ???) JM

Hi JM, That bus route number was before my time. I remember the Beurling bus being the 112, might still be, but I bet the route has changed. It was the 112 Central, out to LaSalle, up Bishop Power, and stopped at the "Miracle Mart", shopping plaza. I also used to ride the 108 Bannantyne to the Atwater Metro, and pick it up at Atwater park across from the Forum heading back to Verdun. I would take the 107 Verdun if the 108 wasn't there, and transfer. Not a lot of different bus routes in Verdun that I can remember other than those I mentioned, and the 58 Wellington. We would take that to the Autostad and watch the Alouettes. Mike
Hi habfan (Mike) ! Some names and addresses you are familiar with ... (re: Lovell’s directory) Best regards, JM
JMH that section of Lovell's cntains the name Meaney,..........I seem to Remember knowing someone named Barney Meaney ,...........I think from school days,.....DannyB would probably know ,He usually has better recall of Verdun days as a kid,.... DannyB are you out there these days,...hope all is going your way ,if you read this,... didn't we know a Barney Meaney??? HF&RV
Hi Les, I don't seem to recall anyone by that name. As you know the years in question can be a little fuzzy at times. Danny
hi DannyB maybe he was in one of my classes,...or just a familiar name to me,......if you don't Remember the name,..then I'd be quite sure you don't know him,as you seem to have a decent recall...... the name Barney Meaney just rings a bell,.......maybe I just heard it..............(the name ,.not the bell...............hahahahaha) HF&RV
Les, Maybe your thinking about VCH's Barney the meany ( Mr. David ) the Dean of Discipline. We called him Barney because he resembled Andy Griffitt's side kick Don Knotts.
hahahahaha DannyB I Remember a Mr David ,..wasn't there two of them (Mr Davids,....tall skinny characters ,they were brothers (not the religous kind, but real brothers I think) I'll checkout my '68 yearbook, and see if there in there,.....but right now it's off to pick up my daughter when she finishes work ,....and also drive my Mom home (Sunday ritual,..) been doing that for years,.....hahahah I guess that's what sons are for. .....I'll check out that yearbook,.......but I know there's another 'real ' Barney and not Fyfe.............hahahahaha HF&RV
