THANKS for stopping by, I do my best to acknowledge when someone leaves a comment, you do not have to be a member here & everyone is welcome.
Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.
Well I guess I have to post these related pics ,.to stir the memory banks,. ........and of course , Here's the bus ticket's (which MaggieMck, posted a few years back)......... I guess a lot of us had some History attending the old Savoy Theater......... Those are Great Old Verdun Memory's ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^HF&RV^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You've got a good memory for details of growing up in Verdun Popdog,....and it really jogs my memory,.all the things we did growing up ,..from the snowball fights,...to the everyday kid stuff,....no matter what age group Our members are in,.We all seemed to have a very similar upbringing,...and it was Fun to be a kid in Verdun...........Good Topic & it's appreciated,......That's what I like about the site is the the fact that we all do have a Verdun Connection..................... _____________________________________HF&RV_______________
Popdog it's funny the different things we come across in our lifetimes,..that we find some connection to or meaning in,....I have a lot of things that I find somewhat interesting, & I have read alot of things that I could derive some sort of inspiration from,...one of those things is the following: Originally I had a copy up on a mirror in my house for many years,.and that copy was one from a newspaper clipping that listed the Authour as Unknown, so a few years ago I came across the e-mail address of this mans Son,....so I e-mailed him telling him that ,the poem I had with no ID on it has now got his fathers name written in,He was happy to hear that .and Thanked me for e-mailing his family, ...........it may be of interest to some & then again maybe not.........The authours name does appear at the bottom of this copy that I found on the net,......I have the orgignal in a box somewhere, now so when I find it I may post it... When you get what you want in your struggle for self And the world makes you king for a day, Just go to a mirror and look at yourself, And see what that man has to say.
For it isn't your father or mother or wife, Who judgment upon you must pass; The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life Is the one starring back from the glass.
He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest. For he's with you clear up to the end, And you've passed the most dangerous, difficult test If the man in the glass is your friend.
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years. And get pats on the back as you pass, But your final reward will be the heartaches and tears If you've cheated the man in the glass.
Yes, I remember the Savoy very well. I'd go there every week and fantasize I was up there on the screen. I don't remember any go go girls but I remember the nuns taking us to see The Ten Commandments there...I love those old theatres. Is it still the same? Dolly
Hello Sabby ,...the Savoy is long gone,...it became a Consumer's Distributor store for a number of years then something else,...as for today I really don't know what is there,........I too do not Remember the 'go-go girls',..(at the Savoy anyway),.....but had fun going to all the movies,..my brother worked there for a bit ,.as did another friend of the family ,named Gilles,.....they use to let us kids in Free,...Gilles was a lso a delivery guy for 'Dubes' Grocery which initally was to the keft hand side of the Savoy,....it was taken out and a whole new store front went in there,...one where you could walk in ,and around ,.it had a sort of Island Display Case in the center........blah blah blah............I know I have some photos from the old era,..as we lived right upstairs next to the Savoy and directly across from the old Mains Pastry Shop,....of which i think I have a picture as well, Glad you liked the lin to the Mirror,.......and as far as i know ,it is still available in Montreal,.I come across articles wqritten by Kristian Gravenor ,quyite often,...I will see if I can get their web address ( if it wasn't readily available on the previous link) and I'll find out if you can subscribe or perhaps you can just read it on-line.? _________________________Have Fun & Remember Verdun________
