Hi Dianne, Hate to brag, but it's 96F here in Edmonton today. It's going to be a hot hot summer. Sweating bullets here already. Weatherman predicting it will cool down by the weekend. So typical of Alberta....weather changes in a blink. We'll be hearing about forest fires soon. And just as the hockey game started (Oilers against San Jose), our street had an electrical power failure. My son and husband were beside themselves and went to listen to the game on the car radio, and finally retreated to a bar to watch the game; however, no room, and they kept calling to see if the electricity was back on.. Isn't that silly....all because of this plastic black thing called a puck that grown men throw around on ice! Dolly
Hi Dolly: I don't think I could handle that kind of heat.....It can be quite hot depending on where you are in Nova Scotia. Usually the hottest it gets here is about 85F-90F is in July and lasts for a week or two. Then we all head to the beach and freeze....cold winds blow in from the Atlantic Ocean. The normal summer temp here is usually between 75F-85F. ........Dianne
How could anyone possibly not Remember one of Verdun's natural wonders..............the shadfly ? ? They are not out full force yet, but still quite a few...... ........easier to see with the eye than the camera...sorry.....m.p.u.
Here are some pics of Stephens and Rolland avenues for a good friend............hope they bring back some good Verdun Memories...... 1185 Stephens 1180 (I think) Rolland .....pics of Valiquette to follow....m.p.u.
Any of you people who are interested in trains, perhaps you could help me identify these channel markers in the marina. They look suspiciously like sunken railway oil tanks, but not sure. Anyhow, they look very interesting:
Very interesting story about Ripple Rock on Vancouver Island (Seymour Narrows). Should you wish to read about the explosion that took place there, here's the address: http://www.crmuseum.ca/exhibits/ripplerock.html Interesting reading. Cheers.
Linda. yes, these could be railway oil tankers,, they seem to be a smaller size, perhaps like these from early California days...... ......or they could be large propane or other chemical tanks. m.p.u.
hi, thanks for the rolland stephens, photos, how the trees have matured like a good wine, eh?? please take some photos around 1517 valiquette, my uncle lives there and its a long time since i have visited from florida, this house will be for sale within one month as he has been there for at least 35 years and is moving to a large seniors apt. in lasalle, now that my aunt passed last year. we used to live on the corner of bann . and valiquette 6277-79. where my dad had his real estate office, for the records, BENNETT REALTIES. 50,S AND 60,S CAROLYN BENNETT. INDIAN SHORES, FL.
Hey MPU, Looks like home. We lived on Allard, at 1192, just up from Monteith. My gradmother lived at 1049 Stephens, near bannantyne. It looks like they renewed the street signs lol. One image that pops in my head is the old "horizontal" traffic lights that I saw last time down. I remember them near LaVeranda (sp) Park I like that they've kept them, and why not? Mike
To Mom, Those floating tanks are boilers. The kind used in industry and apartment buildings. Before electric heat, high pressure steam was used to send heat to top floors of high buildings. Ed
RRR = reduce, reuse, recycle........ If that is the case, what an inventive way to cordon off the marina. I also note that they have a bumper of tires strung along these "things". Put to a much better use than going to landfill unless, of course, there's problems with them rusting out. They are submerged in the ocean, hence saltwater.
Don't know if you have ever seen cars that have been near the ocean? The paint job is usually the pits...the salt just eats at it. But for some reason the grey undercoating usually stands up, but doesn't lend itself to a colourful result. I'm just wondering if the salt eats at the paint, or is it just that the salt acts like a sandblasting job as it's usually windy or breezy near the water. Back east the salt in the winter used to eat paint and metal of cars, rugs in cars, pantleg bottoms, leather shoes.....so guess the problem's the same wherever you are.

You learn something new about Montreal every day...check this site... http://www.magicalfilipina.com/verdun.htm#hotlist apparently now we have a Magnetic Hill just like they have in New Brunswick....also learned that Montreal was once the capital of Canada....maybe was told that in Woodland or VHS, but if so it slipped my mind, along with 11 years of ''reading, righting, and rithmatic'' At one time Montreal was the capital of Canada. Many of the traces of that era still exit and can be seen in walking tours of Old Montreal. Among other things that the guide books won't tell you are Montreal's magic mountain, everyone talks about the mountain being a beautiful dominant feature of the city with its carefully manicured area around the Beaver lake park, and its' semi-wild areas. But there is a little known area where cars put in neutral at the bottom of the hill are drawn up backwards by a mysterious force. mpu
Ralph, I remember this. Right after the streetcars were removed from Cote Des Neighes there was a new bypass road made by Cedar & Cote Des Neighes. It was found that cars rolled uphill. As I remember it people were doing this for a few days and then the police stopped it as it was tying up traffic. Later we were told that the cars didn't really roll uphill, that it was just an illusion that they were going uphill. I choose to believe that they did run uphill.
Remember staring at this signal............ .......long before we ever got cable,...and most of us had B&W sets,....with only a couple of local channels too..............How the times have changed........... probaly wouldn't be allowed to even use this 'test pattern' without raising the 'ire' of some first nations groups,................hahahahahah ............................................Have Fun and Remember Verdun
Welcome back Les_F Thought you had packed up your toys and gone home....guess you were just staring at that "test pattern" too long, eh? Glad you came back to play.
No Mom'45 ,.... I check the site everyday,......but I have been in the Hospital everyday visiting Teresa's Mom,........(who will not be coming out),.....as it would appear,....I thought we were finished with seeing the sadness brought on a family for a while after my friends family went back to Montreal,....but that very night they left ,..Bernadette (Bernie to me) ,.had a stroke,.......and so I am trying to take care of Teresa & family,........but on a lighter note: My Mom was in the Victoria Day Parade today,.....(this time she rode on a float),.....she has been known to walk the route,in the past,........but today it rained all the way through it..........(she loved it anyway......hahahaha she does more at 86 than a lot of us ............hahahaha) .........take the time to Appreciate the people around you ....... .........................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Les_F Sorry to hear sad news...... Yes, yes, yes gotta cherish that 'older than us generation' and not forget to hug and tell them how much they mean to us. Cheers.
Hello MaggieMck,....Happy belated birthday,..........No April Wine concert this year,....? (didn't you go,& see them for your birthday last year?),.........it seems we share the same month,....mine was last week(Tuesday),....although I have celebrated a few more anniversary's of my 18th Birthday than you ...........hahahahahahah (but not that many.......Hope you had a good time,............... ...........................................................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Pleased to hear anout someone celebrating Victoria Day. Here in Quebec, they've tried to squash it by calling it Dollard Des Ormeaux Day. The English still call it Victoria Day and we sung O Canada and God Save Our Queen at the end of the Church Service Sunday. It depresses me at school graduations when they are afraid to put O Canada on the program. It's a signal of surrender. Ed
I'm very pleased to inform you that at my son's high school graduation last year at Beurling Academy (aka VCHS), everyone was asked to please stand for the national anthem.
The Victoria Day Celebration & Parade, here in Victoria BC has been going form 108 years straight ,.I believe it's the second longest running Parade in NorthAmerica,......we get marching bands from everywhere,..and many different participants of many different cultures,..and they are all here to celebrate Victoria Day, and they seem quite happy to be here........it's neat to see,... Would have been neat to see the Sun though.............it was a pretty wet day.........hahahahah but they all enjoyed it...........only 137 entries this year down a bit from 160? last year........guess it costs a bundle to travel these days,..especially with a high school marching band,........the music encompassed alot of different languages and nationalities ............have Fun & Remember Verdun
Les I am sorry to hear the sad news about your mother in law, my prayers are with you and your family. It sounds like your mother is a very spry 86....wonderful to hear she was in the parade, when I hear how great our seniors are doing I pray that there is hope for me...Dianne
Les, Sorry to hear about Teresa's Mom. We can pray that she does not have any suffering. I imagine she is in her eighties also, I feel this is something to be grateful for, that too many people don't reach this age. Your Mom seems to be still having a great time. Good for her! Ralph.
Les I remember well that test pattern on all day long. In my day at least as I recall TV did not come on til the news at 6 PM and we had 2 Channel 6 English Percy Saltzman was the weather man I think at the time and Channel 2 was the French Channel. No just remembered that Howdy Doody was on before supper. because my Uncle was the voice for Dilly Dally and Hissy the snake. Ruth
In 1952 I can remember our Admiral TV having rabbit ears for antenna, and my uncle putting balled up steel wool on the ends for better reception. Also when the station started to fade out or get 'snow' on the screen he used to jump up and move the antenna to find a good spot. He used to yell at us to slow down when we turned the dial to change channels. There used to be another dial on the right hand side of the tv, but be damned if I can remember what it was for. Cheers.
LMAO Linda, did we live in the same house???....I can remember all of that which you have decribed...LMAO...I still dot believe the steel wool worked. Rememeber when the local convient stores or candy stores as I remember them, kept TV tubes in stock?
I remember when my dad would take the tubes to the store and they'd test them to see if they were still good....and did your folks have a little lamp on top of the TV, it was supposed to be better for what...I have no idea...Dianne
Happy Di, Even in my married life early 60's when the TV stopped working I would take all the tubes out and take them to a store like Grand Way in Plattsburgh and test each and every tube on a machine that they provided. Buy new ones that were bad and come home and put them all back in place and wowee TV worked again. With updated electronics if they quit they have died and we go out and buy a new one. Planned obsolesence in my book. Ruth Ruth
We had a lamp on top of the tv also. My mom said it was better for our eyes . Really? She said we would go blind watching the tv in the dark. Funny, but even to this day I like to leave a light on the the room when tv watching. Mirror, mirror on the wall, I am my mother, after all! Cheers.
I guess we all had the same TV jobs, and instructions,..."Don't change the channel too fast",.....and moving the rabbit ears,..............hahahaha As for the lamp on the TV,....I don't Remember why ,....but we did have one too.............hahahaha Have a look: ..Yup , got the the lamp too.......I Remember this lamp ,.as my oldman had made it of twisted copper tubes,........and you can see the old rabbit ears too,............... (circa57) ...as for Mr Saltzman ,.......yup Remember him too,.....I can Remember my oldman getting me one of those large pieces of chalk,........I think I thought I was famous..............hahahahahaha.......... here's a link about old Percy Saltzman: http://www.broadcasting-history.ca/personalities/personalities.php?id=84 Now as for the TV testing ,....Yup had to do that too,........take a brownpaper bag down to the store and 'test' the tubes,.and replace the bad ones using the 'Tube Listing pages',....and then finding the right one in the cabinet below the tester,....and then don't mix the bad ones up with the good ones,......so you didn't have to do the job twice............hahahahahaha Remember these: http://www.radiohistory.org/tubes.htm Yes I guess we've seen a few changes,........ ......................................................................have fun and Remember Verdun

Hello MaggieMck,.......I would think that as adults we have set agendas of sorts ,making us plan weeks and months ahead,.and so we always think time flies quicker,.as opposed to when we were carefree kids,.and everyday was a new adventure,(even it was relatively the same) playing in parks,.having popsicles, going swimming, and generally keeping ourselves entertained,.....and at the end of the Summer we sort of dreaded that last weekend before school started again,...but before that first day of school was out, we had already reconnected with some of our 'last years ' friends, that we didn't see over the summer (See how fast us adults can get summer over with it ,......it hasn't started yet ,..and I'm back on the first day of school............hahahahaha) but it's promts like this that allow us to travel back to those 'kid days in Verdun',............oh yea and as we have mentioned before,..another thing to do in the summer was to wait for those 'water trucks' and jump over the water spray,.........and up at the Stadium ,the Verdun Fire Dept,....would put on a show of their equipment and turn on the hoses,..and let us kids see all the stuff they had ,including the trampoline or fire mens catching net ......they would let us jump off the small sheds at the stadium and catch us (it was about 10feet high,.) we didn't need the net as we jumped off plenty of roofs & hseds and the odd garage tops,.......but the big deal was just to see what it was like to land in one of those things....... also we had Summer Games up at the Stadium too,..with kids from all over Montreal participating,.......they even let us throw Javelins,.Shot Puts,...high jump ,.long jump,....etc etc,.........and Remember the large round bales of straw,....for the Archery club right behind the Stadium........................Summer was Fun,...from beginning to End: Have Fun & Remember Verdun

Hey JM!!! Happy to see you back with us! And yet again, with AWESOME photos too! Oh my God, looking at those old brownish busses immediately transported me back to my childhood and brought a lump in my throat for some reason...lol. GREAT pics! Thank you. Aren't one of those tram pics on Wellington St. in Verdun? The architecture of the buildings in the background look very familiar and are reminiscent of Verdun I think. OHHHHHHH! I think I know where it is! Is it Woodland Ave and Wellington? Is that building in the background where Woodland Restaurant was still yet to be??? The last photo I definitely recognize. It's the side of what was Chalmer's Church what is now a Korean church I believe? Corner of Ross and De L'Eglise? With the big church on Wellington and Church Ave in the back....NDL or NDSD?
Hi JMH,....great pics again,...I especially like the one in Verdun with the view of the Church in the background,........I played all around those areas,........it's always neat to see any Verdun pics like that,..as it allows the mind to immediately travel back and Remember those days..................... Hi Sharon ! You’re right, one tram is on the Woodland section of Woodland loop (Wellington--Woodland--Lasalle Blvd--Argyle), heading south towards Lasalle Blvd. (Photo1, tram 2666 serving on line 58-Wellington). Streetcar 2666 was part of a fleet of 25 vehicles (2650-2674) built by Canadian Car & Foundry of Ville St-Pierre, Qu챕. In the first pic, streetcar 2217 serving on line 58-Wellington is heading west on St. James at Mc Gill (in fact, this tram is completing the loop Notre-Dame--Place d’Armes--St-Jacques--Peel/Colborne). This loop was used by streecars on lines 58 and 60-Wellington from 1951 till 1957. Car 2217 was part of a fleet of 60 vehicles (2180-2239) built by CC&F in 1929. Photo taken in 1954. Welcome back JM, I really missed your input, the latest group of bus photos is great. I especially like the old Canadian Car busses. I remember after Montreal was finished with them they would sell them to Chambly Transport. (they should have scrapped them). Ralph.
Carolyn, I will take some pics for you next time thru Verdun. I did not have a copy of this message with me yesterday, and did not remember what addresses you mentioned. m.p.u.
Hey Les, Great story. I like the "muntreal" pronunciation, that's how I, if not most from there say it. I laugh when Americans say it as "Mahn-treal" lol. Mike
Thanks Ralph ! I really appreciate your messages and photos. BTW, can you identify the place from which the photo of the Verdun fisherman was taken ? (Ref: RV8913) JM
Well yesterday (or was it Friday ?) I posted a link to the Race Rocks website,.......oddly enough this is where the only accident during this years Swiftsure Race tookplace ,..at the entrance to Race Rocks Passage,..... a Catamaran (out of Anacortes WA.) called the Cat Sass slowly cartwheeled and evryone ended up in the drink.......but these races are watched carefully (each boat is equipped with a transponder,...so they know where these things are at all times),. but noone was hurt,....some mild hypothermia ,.but that's it........Lucky racers for sure,.....some of the boats are returning now: Here's the chronological time frame on the Cat Sass situation ( as reported on the Swiftsure 2006 website) May 28, 2006 @ 08:42 AM
At 6:22am Sunday morning, the Swiftsure Race Committee received a mayday from the multihull Cat Sass, a Viva out of Anacortes owned and skippered by Keith Rubin, indicating that they had capsized at the western entrance to Race Passage. Rescue efforts were undertaken immediately, under the direction of the Canadian Coast Guardâs Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC), with the support of the Swiftsure Race Committee under the direction of Race Officer Bill Stelp. All crew are reported rescued and in good health. Events occurred as follows: 6:22am - Mayday received by Swiftsure Race Committee communications, transferred to RCC. 6:25am - A Boston Whaler fishing in the immediate vicinity heard the mayday, and responded immediately to the scene. Four crew members were found standing on the upturned hull. Two of these were transferred to the Whaler. 6:27am - Another multihull competitor, Red Shift, came on scene, and assisted with the rescue. 6:33am - Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel First Light II, based out of Pedder Bay, responded to the mayday and came on scene, rescuing the remaining two crew off the overturned hull. All four crew were transferred to shore and taken to medical facilities for a routine examination. All have been reported in good health. 6:37am - Swiftsure Race Committee reported the emergency was over, and all vessels were advised to stand down and resume racing. At this hour, efforts are underway to recover the overturned vessel. The racing yacht Electra, a competitor in the Unlimited Juan de Fuca Race, was also reported on-scene to assist with the rescue efforts, and unfortunately broke a boom in the process and had to withdraw from the race. Transponder data reported that, at the time of the accident, Cat Sass was hitting speeds over 28 knots… not uncommon for a multihull in brisk wind conditions. Race Officer Bill Stelp said âonce the Mayday was received, everyone followed procedure and carried out their responsibilities exactly as required. We are very relieved that this unfortunate event resulted in no injuries or loss of life, and was dealt with within 15 minutesâ. http://www.swiftsure.org/ for those of you who like Sailing .........................................................................HF&RV

Here is an interesting link to a website ,.that tells the story of the 'Great Escape' ,. most of us Remember the movie with Steve McQueen,.etc etc ,......but my Uncles brother in law ,.actually worked on the building of these tunnels,....(Tom , Dick & Harry),..........his name was Wally Floody,......Wally Floody ,has credits in the making of the movie as he was consulted on the project:...in either case check out this link it's well done and very inter-active: http://www.kerman94.com/tunnelharry.html move your cursor over the numbers etc etc ,..and it will tell you lots about that Camp Hope it's of some interest to you: here's an excerpt from a book with referance to Wally Floody,.....a Canadian: Flight Lieutenant Wally Floody was 25 years old, with dark hair and hazel eyes. He had been tall and lean to begin with. Prisoner-of-war rations, combined with the hard labour of digging tunnels, had left him gaunt and hollow-eyed. He had been buried alive several times before this and had felt the terror of suffocation. The best way out of Stalag Luft III, a prison camp for airman, seemed to tunnel under the barbed-wire. Wally knew how to build tunnels-so he would be back down tomorrow, and the next day, and he would keep digging. In The Tunnel King, Barbara Hehner tells the heroic story of Wally Floody, a young Canadian airman who had been shot down over Germany in 1941. It is a great story of an ordinary Canadian's great courage and determination in the face of overwhelming odds. How does the saying go,..about if we don't learn from History,....we are destined to repeat it........I hope were not that stupid,........ Here is another link to a Macleans article called "Leaders and Dreamers" http://www.macleans.ca/leadersanddreamers/canadian_4.htm Some very insightfull characters ,that walked among us........... let's not forget them,.............. .............................................................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Hi Jean-Marie, Glad to hear that all is well in Chicoutimi. We lived for two years at 1078 Manning Avenue when I was age 4 & 5. During the nineteen sixties my mother lived at 4320 Bannantyne Avenue, Apt 17 (same number as the Cartierville Streetcar) where I crashed out a lot. I had a girl friend in Verdun, went to the movies in Verdun and was a excellent consumer of Trevi Pizza. I didn't spend the amount of time that you guys did in Verdun but my heart is there and I love Verdun ,The Point and all of Montreal. Things in West Palm Beach are great except that I found out I have prostate cancer. I have completed six weeks of radiation and will have a prostate seed implant this Tuesday. I'm in good spirits and am confident that I will beat this but if you feel like saying a prayer I'll gladly accept it. I'll keep you posted. I plan to get well and then ride the Tri Rail Train from West Palm Beach to Miami. A 71 mile run. Really great seeing you back on Verdun Connections. Everyone here loves ya. Walter
There are many organisations across Canada, that try to help others by donating their used computers,...without sending them all to other nations,......Here is one website dedicated to finding and distributing used computers to those who need them,........I also think it is wise to 'look around you' and see if there is someone near you who could benefit from your kindness and use your usually discarded equipment ,.....There are many people who would be happy to have some of the stuff we ,are too quick to deem ,no longer valuable.........Check with your local library's ,and other community groups and see if we can collectively Help some others to 'get connected' Here's a link that some of you may choose to persue,& see if you can get them to divert some of their overflow to groups you feel could use the Help: the Vancouver based office of one group is already asking people Not to Send them any more computers ,.as they can't use them,........Guess that means ,there's alot of ones out there we can find for those (in this country) that would use them: http://www.worldcomputerexchange.org/offices/canada_home.htm Do with the information what you will,.........Hope it Helps : ...................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun..............................
Walter: Sorry to hear of your present difficulty. I'll remember you in my prayers. Keep the faith and only have positive thoughts.....Good luck...Dianne
Walter, I wish you the best and will also include you in my prayers, we need you at VC for many more years to come, and I hope to see many more train photos, including the one you mention in Florida. God Bless. Ralph.
came across a few more examples of some of the old transfers,.... .....and Remember when kids were not on the bus ,you ay have seen them on one of these (Remember just a few years ago it seems all the kids had silver version of one of these: Now that's an old scooter (troitinette I think) and we also spoke of the "Slippery Section of the Weekend version of the Montreal Star........ ......some old Montreal stuff indeed...................................I'll keep looking and see what we find HAVEFUN&REMEMBERVERDUN
Hi Walter ! Thank you very much for your message. Since my retirement, I have discovered the incredible benefits of regular walking. It gives me so much on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. We will have spiritual thoughts for you in these moments. Another source of inspiration and strenght is the contact with nature and architectural beauties. Two inspiring places we visit at least once a year: Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupr챕 http://www.ssadb.qc.ca/ and Basilique Notre-Dame-du-Cap / Notre-Dame-du-Cap Basilica http://collections.ic.gc.ca/relig/ndcap/ndcapexe.htm And , of course, another source of strenght is visiting Verdun. I’m always 15 when I go back to Verdun. Music is also a great contributor in healing: Here is a site I particularly appreciate (especially Ave verum corpus by Mozart) http://www.chorale.lu/5audio.htm Our best wishes to you and your family Elise and Jean-Marie P.S. We are grand-parents since May 20th. Walter. Sorry to hear about your health problem. I also have you on my prayer list. Hope all goes well, and that your recovery is now in progress. Keep the faith, and keep your spirits up. I believe you will beat this also. Please keep sharing your burden with us. Thanks again for sharing with us. Winston Allison
Oh yeah Les ...I liked your Transfers. Anybody interested in the Trolley Bus. Here is one link you might like. http://www.trolleybuses.net/ Have a nice day. Steve
Mr.Hachey.......In my book that I am doing on Verdun....there are a few characters that I've included from your end of VERDUN...and since you were of the same EPOC...I was wondering if you could provide some input .....The names of the people were "Ti Cun , Bumper and Peanuts " they had a great sense of humour ...spectacular , larger than life guys .....if you can give me any input it would be much appreciated .... I especially appreciate your research and photos.... You may contact me at
And as the address says TAKE OUT the "removespam" to get the address to work......it is to stop email harvesters from useing the address.... Thanks joey
JMH,.................have a look at this picture ,compared to your picture,........they were failry similar,.......one is from the Photo Album section of Our sSite http://groups.msn.com/VerdunConnections/morepresentdayverdunphotos.msnw?Page=2 posted origianlly by JohnnyO,..........it very similar, ..this shot was at Allard & the River................ the riverfront sure looks alot nicer than it has in years ,...maybe ever........They've one a nice job in land recovery ,Some very good photo's in JohnnyO's album,.....it's always worthwhile having a look through all Our picture albums evry so often just to Remember what we have........... ..................................................HAVEFUNandREMEMBERVERDUN
Here's a few more old things ,that we may all Remember :Remember licking the icing off these mixers?.........hahahahahah with 6 kids you had to be quick to put in your request, or how about one of these old City & District Savings Banks,.......one of our members had a couple of real good examples ,..but I cannot find them in the photo area,......but I do have this one: and How about a Real Old MTC logo ,....(this is before my time) .. but I certainly Remember this old T with an arrow on the end Remember those old uniforms they woree with those brass buttons,...(that's the more familiaer logo ,...to me anyway) ............and since we quote Lovell's Directoy every so often,I thought I'd post this copy of a Lovell's Montreal Street Guide Notice the important cities listed at the top, Westmount,........Outremont,........& Verdun,........hahahahaha Now I don't know how we rated star billing with slightly more affluent areas,.......perhaps they were equating the calibre of Our Character,..........which I would say makes us very wealthy indeed.........hahahahahaha and one couldn't deny that We are 'Characters'...................hahahahahahaha Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Les, I agree with you, there is a lot of treasures in our Pictures albums. I appreciate your Lovell’s Montreal Street Guide. For many years, they never changed their cover (winning formula) ... John Lovell (age 12) and his parents arrived in Montreal in the early 1800’s. Their native Ireland was struggling through a deadly potato famine and the Lovell’s decided to seek a better life in Canada. ... http://www.lovell.ca/ JM
Hello JMH ,...I have added the Lovell's web address in Our Links section,..as well,...I think it will be well used,.......I know I have had to look it up several times,.and I do have it 'bookmarked' under favourites on my computer,...but I think it will be much easier to use & access through here,.... Thanks Again for the memory prompt to do so...........................................................................HF&RV
JMH Glad you're back. You have some really cool sights. I always look forward to your tidbits of information. Interesting Lovell's site. Thanks. Cheers.
Remember these, I thought Our Mom's had 'Green Stamps' weren't they ,..or were they these 'gold star' ones ?? ................and Remember the "Mon-Mart" in Lasalle on Laverendrye Blvd & Shevchenko,........sort of diagonally across from where the "Miracle-Mart" was built on Champlain side of the Acqueduct,......which in turn was beside the old "Cavalier de Lasalle".................... weird old stuff, but thought it might get a laugh..............................................have fun & remember Verdun
I don't recall channel 2 being both languages,....I think the channels we had were ch:2 (CBC eng) ch:3 (CBUFT basically CBC fr.) ch:12 (in the early 60's) (CFCF-TV) and every once in a while you could tune in ch:8 (cornwall) very rarely ch5 (PLTZ) .......then we got Cable ,.....and filled the dial (but the dial was only 13 channels) then UHF channel you could tune in the odd channel but the ch:3 late at night on weekends ,you might see a boob or two............hahahahahaha but in any case you usually needed one of these for sure (if you didn't have cable) This was the 'Modern Style Rabbit Ears' ............but nowhere to put the 'steelwool'................hahahahahah Have Fun & Remember Verdun
My mom collected "pinky stamps" from Steinbergs. But you had to have a truckload of them to "buy" anything! Does anybody else remember the big antennas that were up on the roof? I remember a friend of mine's father had one on the roof, and there was a little handle that came down the side of the building so that you could turn the antenna to tune into a station. Someone inside the house yelled "a bit more to the right"; or "a bit more to the left", but it really didn't matter too much anyway, as when the person outside turning the crank came back into the house they were never happy. Cheers
That's true Mom'45,....the person moving the antenna was never happy,.....cause as soon as you let go of the actual antenna ,the picture would go a little fuzzy, I don't think I ever saw a hockey game in te early years without a shadow of each player,.......hahahaha We had 12 teams even Prior to Expansion.............hahahaha as for the outside antenna,I don't Remember too many of those in Verdun,.as we had a lot of row housing,.....You must have been Rich weren't you (you Cote St Paul gals )..........hahahaha but I think DannyB had an outdoor rooftop antenna ,.but it would most likely have been for his CBRadio ,.he was right into those,....and knew alot about them,....I am surprised he never electrocuted anyone with the wires & things he had around his room...........hahahahaha ...........................................................................HF&RV
Naaa......not rich, remember I came from Ville Emard (read poor). HappyDi came from Cote St Paul (read rich)....hehehe. We used to go to my grandmother's to watch tv. She got hers in 1952, and we only got ours about 1957 or so. But the outside antenna was at my girlfriend's house, and every time there was a big rain storm I remember wondering if the lightening would hit it and start a fire, or conversly if windy, would it topple over. On a different note, I can remember when they changed the hydro/telephone poles from the street into the laneways; and our telephone number was HE(mlock) 3397! Cheers.
We didn't get a TV until late 50's and before that we went to my grandparents to watch special shows like the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth on their TV and guess what? They lived on Jogues Street, Ville Emard!!!!.Lol!! My parents didn't get cable until years later after I married and moved to N.S...Hmmmmm....my younger sister was spoiled rotten...imagine, she had cable.....and I didn't!!!.....Dianne
Look what you've done now, Les_F......a battle between Ville Emard and Cote St Paul. Wait, are we arguing to see who's the poorest, that's funny. Know what, I think all of us that lived in this end of the city weren't exactly millionaires, but know what, we're the nicest bunch of people you could ever met, n'est-ce-pas? Cheers.
Yes we were and are the nicest people, all of us here on this board no matter where we hail from.....we weren't rich in those days but boy did we ever have a wonderful life. I have read just about every post from all the members and I truly enjoy reading everyone's reminiscences of their childhood. ....Dianne
Yes HappyDi & Mom'45,.........now I can understand the outside antenna,.cause I Remember going to Marie & Rory Rourke-Frew 's house ,.and because those house were self -contained they would have the room for an antenna in the yard,..... I used to think if someone had a driveway they were rich..............hahahahahah So you girls are in the rich category,.........once I moved to Lasalle we had a shared driveway, with the duplex next door,.........Now I've got two driveways,......and I know for certain that my theory was wrong...............hahahahahahahah ................................................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Linda....This is news to me....I didn't have an outside antenna...but we did have a shared driveway on Angers St. Soooo as far as high maintence rich bitches....well, it's all in the eye of the beholder....LOL...Dianne

Les_F Well I can see you haven't been drinking as much as I thought. Not too shabby when you remember things from a month or so ago. About those deck lights...it's staying light much later these days, so perhaps you can stall on those. Okay, stop rolling your eyes, all you people reading this. Ya hadda be there! Cheers.
Les...maybe the list checker isn't on duty before Canada Day, but remember the big guy is on duty all the time and he might send you this if you're not carefull....Di
That's why I don't need the Deck Lights,...these things keep following me around, ..There's that 'light' again.................................but I'm prepared,....I'm thinking of a deathbed conversion.................hahahahahaha (and by the rules they have to accept me,.....right to the front of the que) .....................................................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Seriously though the weather channel seemed to show a lot of rain in the forecast for a lot of the country,.......I 'd love to be sitting on a front gallery and able to watch one of those really good Lightnng Storms,......man I love those things,.........MaggiMck's province gets some nice ones too,....as well as Alberta,........Here on the Westcoast we don't get those really good storms with the lightning,...(which is good actually ,.due to the forest fire danger...........but when we do have one I'm out there at the top of one of the nearest mt tops ,..usually Mt Tolmie or Mt Doug (there closest),.....and I usually take the camera,.......but they happen a few years apart,...... So anyof our members out there ,keep your camera's at the ready,.so we can see some good Lightning Bolt shots..................................HF&RV
Linda...Yes that was a pretty good comeback...lol...if you want to use graphics all you do is google a topic such as clipart of dogs for example and you can find all sorts of pictures. Right click on the image and then hit save image, very easy and lots of fun.....Dianne
Dianne, I'm being good cause it's my birthday Friday, and iffin I want a cadeau I gotta be good. The birthday boy at my house had his birthday 2 months ago, and he got a nice cadeau, sooooooo By the way, it might not be the boogeyman after Les_F, it just might be Armageddeon!!!

Leading the charge to the finish was Michael Simpson (22) of North Vancouver who set a new course record of 26 minutes and 26 seconds! Pop Dog You mentioned Cornwall Barbque restaurant, they have the best pizza in town...and nornally you cannot get into that place....sorry you were not satisfied...maybe next time... Betty
Popdog, I have not been to Cornwall for almost two months now. My wife is too far away for me to visit. I think we went to try Bruyeres one Wednesday night, but at 8pm, they were closing due to it being very quite that night. m.p.u.
Hi Popdog,...That sounds like it will be a good show,.....I have been to the london Airport for an airshow,...so you know they will have lots of room,.... Hope yopu get lots of pictures,.should be some nice trucks there HF&RV
Pop Dog We eat at Bruyere's all the time, that is when we are not at St. Huberts barbeque....food at Bruyere's is always good... It is a family run restaurant, and the people care about the quality of the food....and service. Betty
When I was going to Cornwall, we enjoyed Casa Poalo's, Panda's, Kelsey's, the Peppermill in the Best Western, a place called_____Jack?, or something across the street from Casa P, and many many more. A few weeks ago I went to Ottawa, and went to the Red Lobster near the Museum of Science & Technology.......it was as super as I had remembered. Also ate at an old Irish Pub in Kingston, excellent, but can't remember the name. Ralph.
I will be going to Toronto on June 24,24,25, and plan on visiting a good friend, maybe an Aunt, take some pictures....any plans for another get-together in Orangeville? Too bad I could not make the first one. m.p.u.
Ralph.. Was that Jaz Magnolias across the street from Casa Poalo's and that Old Irish Pub...was that in the Catiraqui ?(spelling) Centre. the big shopping centre...in Kingston. If so we have eaten in there many times. and loved it.... Betty
Betty, Yes, it was Jazz Magnolias in Cornwall, the pub in Kingston was on the corner of Ontario St & ??? just in front of the park in front of the yacht club, where the old CPR steam engine is. The name is Tir Nan Og http://www.whatsonkingston.com/entertain/tirnanog/location.html , I am not a beer drinker by nature, but I had two, Kilkenny beers, they were the best beers I have ever drank. The Onion soup was super, and the main meal, a steak if I remember was #1. Not cheap though, it cost me $53.50 tax and tip included, just for my supper. But it was worth every cent. Ralph.
Ralph.... Ontario & Queen or Ontario & Princess st.....That yatch club is where my son..is a member and stores his sail boat...That is not the Irish Pub we were in....but maybe next time we will try it out.... Betty
We have taken a ''cruise'' boat from there a few times, either just around the lake/river, or all the way to Boldt Castle, this is a very nice place to visit. The renovations have come a long way since the first time we went there. Once the Canadian Navy ship "The Kingston" was in the harbour, and we visited it, also very interesting. There is a lot to visit around Kingston. Ralph.
Throughout Boldt Castle you can find hearts carved into wood, cast in the stonework, etc. He built it for his wife, but she died before it was completed, and he never lived in it. It is a beautiful place, but such a tragedy, and such a great love story. If you get a chance MPU, it's worth visiting. Cheers.
I'm with Mom1945-Linda on this one. Not if, its WHEN you get the chance MPU go for a visit to Heart Island. If I may suggest grab a picnic basket, take your wife and make a day of it on the Island. You can find a quiet spot under some trees, have lunch and watch the boats go by along the Islands. I brought my wife 2 years ago and it can be very romantic. We sat under some old oak trees and had to push the acorns away to sit down. I gathered some of the acorns to bring back home to try and grow some trees from them. Do ya think I rememebered where I put those acorns???? I'm still lookin'........lol. Thanks for the website Mom-Linda but it doesn't really tell all of the story behind it. I remember visiting the Island back in the early 70's with my family while we were on our way to Niagara Falls. My Dad used to love to make numerous stops along the way to visit these out-of-the-way attractions and used to drive my Mom crazy. The grounds in general back then were not well kept. Weeds and bushes were overgrown, the Castle itself had no doors or windows to speak of and most of the rooms were boarded up. You could still get around inside the castle via the stairs but you had to watch your step as some stairs were missing. Bats and an assortment of local birds were the local inhabitants. Alot of graffiti and hearts with initials were carved into most of the woodwork around the interior. It was in a sorry state back then but nevertheless a heart-warming true-life experience. Lately (some Parks Commision in the US) got wind of the story, arranged some private donations and got the ball rolling in restoring the Castle and possibly finishing it. Now if I could only find my pics from back then it would make a great Then & Now project. Stay tuned to this thread, If I find them, I'll post 'em. Mac.

Linda & Fr.Mac, I have visited Boldt Castle 2 or three times, it has been remarkably restored. I think I took some photos, but they were not digital, and I have dozens of albums, that I would have to look thru to find them. I will try to visit again, and take some pics. But not this year, at least not with my wife, she is far far away for 2 1/2 months. Ralph.
MPU Last time I was there was about 15 years ago. I was very impressed at that time, so should you have more recent photos than that, bring them on!!!! Maybe Paul Anka wrote this with you in mind: "I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue, I'm all alone, with nothing to do." Cheers.

Very Interesting story of George C Boldt (owner of the Waldorf Astoria NYC),....famous in it's own right,......... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Brief History. . . At the turn-of-the-century, George C. Boldt, millionaire proprietor of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, set out to build a full size Rhineland Castle in Alexandria Bay, on Picturesque Heart Island. The grandiose structure was to be a display of his love for his wife, Louise. Beginning in 1900, Boldt's family shared four glorious summers on the island in the Alster Tower while 300 workers including stonemasons, carpenters, and artists fashioned the six story, 120 room castle, complete with tunnels, a powerhouse, Italian gardens, a draw bridge, and a dove cote. Not a single detail or expense was spared. In 1904, tragedy struck. Boldt telegraphed the island and commanded the workers to immediately "stop all construction." Louise had died suddenly. A broken hearted Boldt could not imagine his dream castle without his beloved. Boldt never returned to the island, leaving behind the structure as a monument of his love. For 73 years, the castle and various stone structures were left to the mercy of the wind, rain, ice, snow and vandals. When the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property in 1977, it was decided that through the use of all net revenues from the Castle operation it would be preserved for the enjoyment of future generations. Since 1977, several million dollars have been applied to rehabilitating, restoring and improving the Heart Island structures. Complete Website is available at : http://www.boldtcastle.com/history.html site seems to still be under some construction,...but it does give a lot of interesting details,.......... ............................Enjoy if you like, .........................................................have fun and Remember Verdun
Les_F, I also remember St Helen's Island, Pre Expo days. Every year the Sunday School picnic was held there. A big adventure in those days on a special bus. Not a lot of vehicle owners in those days. Three legged races , Sack races and more. Horseshoes for the Dads. Lady's took care of the food. Ruth
Mom1945-Linda, If I'm not mistaken I think that record was one of the ones played at the Y dances. Paul Anka's promoters were there a couple of times promoting his records long brfore he became famous. He was a kid from Ottawa back then. That was in the 57-58 time frame. Ruth
hi Ruth Armstrong ,....Saint Helen's was a good place to escape for sure,...sounds like you had some fun there too: Here's a couple more pics from a while back: Remember the big swimmimg pool ,owned & operated by the City of Montreal, also a couple of old beach pics from Saint Helens and Here's just a shot of the Island Kind of a neat old shot,.showing te exit ramps for the Island from the JC bridge,....and in the background a good aerial picture of the Old Fort:(before Expo67) Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Thanks for posting those pictures. I vaguely remembered going to a beach with my family where there were a lot of people and the remains of an old fort. It didn't take too long to get there. Others in my family did not seem to remember the fort. I thought it might have been a figment of my very active imagination!
Linda, this song fits me almost to the tee, the only difference is that I have too much to do......cleaning the house, taking care of the zoo, the pool, the groceries, my laundry, everybodys dishes and mess, cutting the grass, etc, etc, etc, it is very very lonely though......m.p.u.
Linda, If I was interested in Bingo, I would not have to go far, my back yard borders on the English Catholic Church in D.M., and just down the street, is the French Catholic Church, but being the ''lonely boy'' that I am, I would rather stay home, at least Jessie is happy to see me.......mpu
Les_F, Never knew there was a pool on St Helen's Island. Only pool I knew was the Nat. just a couple of blocks from where I grew up on Riverview near Lasalle blvd.. As a family we went to Cape St. Jacques, not quite sure where that was but remember the name and Plattsburgh State park for a day trip and a picnic before my parents bought a trailer close the beach and the family spent summers there with my younger brothers.I had a summer time job at Herbert Ready Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. Dolly
Just as I sent my previous messge to Dianne, the Oilers scored and you should have heard the neighborhood roar...everyone is watching the game! Dolly
Sabby That silly black thing that gets thrown on the ice. Where did it get it's name.? Ed
It looks like the Oilers might bring the cup back to Canada. Ed...ask Peter Puck Steve

Steve, have you got a lot invested in gold?
Went on an overnight "RV" outing and here's a pic of us in beautiful BC yesterday (our van is on the right hand side of the photo):
Any of you people who are interested in trains, perhaps you could help me identify these channel markers in the marina. They look suspiciously like sunken railway oil tanks, but not sure. Anyhow, they look very interesting:
Very interesting story about Ripple Rock on Vancouver Island (Seymour Narrows). Should you wish to read about the explosion that took place there, here's the address: http://www.crmuseum.ca/exhibits/ripplerock.html Interesting reading. Cheers.
MaggieMck...you could say my shirt.haha Steve
Linda, that campsite looks so good, right on the edge of the water.....mountains in the background...I am envious......m.p.u.
Linda. yes, these could be railway oil tankers,, they seem to be a smaller size, perhaps like these from early California days...... ......or they could be large propane or other chemical tanks. m.p.u.
hi, thanks for the rolland stephens, photos, how the trees have matured like a good wine, eh?? please take some photos around 1517 valiquette, my uncle lives there and its a long time since i have visited from florida, this house will be for sale within one month as he has been there for at least 35 years and is moving to a large seniors apt. in lasalle, now that my aunt passed last year. we used to live on the corner of bann . and valiquette 6277-79. where my dad had his real estate office, for the records, BENNETT REALTIES.
You make a good point about rust. I wonder, would it have cost that much to spray paint them with nice looking colours? Ed
What about Norma Fyfe who lived in the 1180's on Stephen?
Mike, I will take some shots of the addresses, and the lghts that you mentioned. m.p.u.
Mom...Linda... that story of Ripple Rock is very interesting. http://www.crmuseum.ca/exhibits/ripplerock.html Steve

But there is a little known area where cars put in neutral at the bottom of the hill are drawn up backwards by a mysterious force. mpu
MPU, This is on C척te des Neinges Road near Cedar and it is an optical illusion. Guy
Thanks Guy & Fresco, this is the first I have heard of this....will have to check it out. mpu

Ruth, I loved doing my homework to Howdy Doody and Dilly Dally and Maggie Muggins. To this day, I can work with distractions all around me! Dolly
Oh my goodness...Maggie Muggins. Wasn't her friend Mr. McGarrity? Oh how I loved that series, and I also had a book about Maggie (I think it was part of a series). Thanks.
Les, That's the testing devise. Now obsolete. Ruth
Please, I just had a colonoscopy and I'm trying to forget it. Would you please stop talking about tube testers. Ed

Do remember when summers seemed endless? Now they are over before we get into the "groove". Is time going by faster or are we slowing down?

Hi Les ! Good to be back at Verdun Connections. As you mentioned, I have made a few contributions to metrodemontreal.com I am not forgetting the old pals from Verdun Connections ... Nice weekend to all VC members. JM
Hi Les ! I know this area very well too. My mom had her last residence on Ross. (I took the shot last year). JM
Hi Walter ! How are you ? What’s new in West Palm Beach ? For the 2nd time this season, the lawns are done ... after more than 10 days of rain, the lawn was about 5.5 in. high. On what street(s) did you live in Verdun ? *** Fishing in Verdun (2005) *** JM P.S. I think your comment is slightly exagerated !
Habfan / Mike, sorry it took a week but here are the pics of the places, and the lights you mentioned in post 8852............. ....m.p.u.
As requested by a friend a while ago....Valiquette below Monteith.... and because I like hydrants, this one on the corner of Beurling and Allard caught my eye ...m.p.u.
Dear Ed, A serious subject but a funny way to find out that my brother has had it done when I am reading this at home in Staffordshire, England. Hope it is the best result you can wish for from the tests. Betty (nee Brown)
JM, sorry, can't pin-point where you took the fisherman photo. I like the ducks very much. Ralph.
Found a bunch of examples of old MTC stuff,......Remember all the bus tickets and transfers,...MaggieMck,....has a couple of examples in the photo section,.....and here's some other stuff spanning a few years: ...............Remember when you were able to get a 'new' book of tickets,........it was like you could escape anywhere ,cause you had a bunch of bus tickets...........hahahahaha but we also new how to avoid paying or using another ticket by utilising the transfers,....and passing transfers out te window to our freinds who would get on the bus ,........or How about the old trick of 'peeling the bus ticket in half ,..and then stratigically dropping the ticket in the 'farebox' so the driver could see the 'goodside' of the ticket ,..and then hope it didn't get stuck halfway down the shoot or land badside up on the bottom.............hahahahaha Thrifty we were..............hahahaha afterall 6 1/2 cents didn't grow on trees: .........................................................have fun & Remember Verdun
Along with hundreds of Allied prisoners-of-war, Floody was a part of the attempted mass escape from a German prison camp, an escape which has since been immortalized in film and literature as the "Great Escape." .......................................................have fun & remember Verdun
It is important to Remember these things for sure,.....I wonder sometimes if we are not on the brink of losing some of the personal freedoms that we enjoy,.......
Two inspiring places we visit at least once a year: Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupr챕 http://www.ssadb.qc.ca/ and Basilique Notre-Dame-du-Cap / Notre-Dame-du-Cap Basilica
http://collections.ic.gc.ca/relig/ndcap/ndcapexe.htm And , of course, another source of strenght is visiting Verdun. Hello Ralph ! The photo of the fisherman (RV8913) was from a friend. I guess it was taken from the the foot of 4th Avenue ??? JM
Good morning Les ! Thanks for your collection of old tickets and transfers JM
Walter. Sorry to hear about your health problem. I also have you on my prayer list. Hope all goes well, and that your recovery is now in progress. Keep the faith, and keep your spirits up.
Here's a few more old things ,that we may all Remember : Remember licking the icing off these mixers?.........hahahahahah with 6 kids you had to be quick to put in your request, or how about one of these old City & District Savings Banks,.......one of our members had a couple of real good examples ,..but I cannot find them in the photo area,......but I do have this one: and How about a Real Old MTC logo ,....(this is before my time) .. but I certainly Remember this old T with an arrow on the end Remember those old uniforms they woree with those brass buttons,...(that's the more familiaer logo ,...to me anyway) ............and since we quote Lovell's Directoy every so often,I thought I'd post this copy of a Lovell's Montreal Street Guide Notice the important cities listed at the top, Westmount,........Outremont,........& Verdun,........hahahahaha Now I don't know how we rated star billing with slightly more affluent areas,.......perhaps they were equating the calibre of Our Character,..........which I would say makes us very wealthy indeed.........hahahahahaha and one couldn't deny that We are 'Characters'...................hahahahahahaha Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Thanks. Cheers.
Thanks Mom1945-Linda ! Here’s a pic of Verdun I’ve just received from my friend André Phaneuf (29 May 2006, 11h16) Regards, JM
Remember these, I thought Our Mom's had 'Green Stamps' weren't they ,..or were they these 'gold star' ones ?? ................and Remember the "Mon-Mart" in Lasalle on Laverendrye Blvd & Shevchenko,........sort of diagonally across from where the "Miracle-Mart" was built on Champlain side of the Acqueduct,......which in turn was beside the old "Cavalier de Lasalle".................... weird old stuff, but thought it might get a laugh ..............................................have fun & remember Verdun
Les....Isn't it amazing how our perceptions change as we....and I use the term loosely.....mature?...lol......Dianne
HappyDi does that mean we were like, ummmm, high maintenance back in those days, you know, spoiled rotten, rich bitches? Cheers
Linda....This is news to me....I didn't have an outside antenna...but we did have a shared driveway on Angers St. Soooo as far as high maintence rich bitches....well, it's all in the eye of the beholder....LOL...Dianne
HappyDi I guess just cause Les_F says it's so, doesn't mean it's so. Boy, I'm probably going to dream about that eyeball tonight. Cheers.

Dianne, Thanks for the come back. You have such nifty 'picture thingies'....I was going to call them smileys, but they're not.

Again Here in Victoria BC ,.....bars/pubs restaurants,....have had to have people Smoke Outside in covered Patios for quite awhile now,......Those too will eventually be phased out,......... I don't understand why the Gov't cannot implement a very strict Air Filtering System (very costly),.....but in the spirit of allowing Business to flourish, and customers to be safe and comfortable,...........Why ( I wonder) couldn't the Gov't give low or NO interest loans to Local Establishments to have State of the Art Air filtering Systems, that would provide all customers & employees alike ,with a Gov't Approved Air Quality,......without destroying business for both the Smoker & Non Smoker Just an Opinion......................................................................................hf&rv

NEW COURSE RECORD! 26:26
Sunny skies and crisp air was the ideal combination for the 15th annual BMO Bank of Montreal Grouse Grind Mountain Run that took place on Sunday, September 25, 2005. Over 525 people registered for the race, ranging in age from 6 to 72.
Leading the charge to the finish was Michael Simpson (22) of North Vancouver who set a new course record of 26 minutes and 26 seconds! Simpson, fresh off of his win from the prior weekend’s Los Angeles Triathlon, finished 52 seconds under the old course record of 27:18 held by Derek Reed of Kamloops from the 1997 race. Rachel Ruus (30) of Vancouver led the field in the women's category with a strong 34:48 but the women’s record is still held by Kelly Matoul from the 2002 race at 32:54.

Ralph.
Betty, you can see the Irish Pub across the street from where this truck is parked. This truck belongs to the Kingston Brewing Company. .....RALPH.

Cheers.
History of Boldt Castle can be found here: http://www.boldtcastle.com/history.htm

I thought it might have been a figment of my very active imagination!

great memorabilia, thanks for the shots
Linda, this song fits me almost to the tee, the only difference is that I have too much to do......cleaning the house, taking care of the zoo, the pool, the groceries, my laundry, everybodys dishes and mess, cutting the grass, etc, etc, etc, it is very very lonely though......m.p.u.
MPU At least all those chores keep you off the streets and out of the Bingo parlours, lol. Cheers.
