Hi Sandy. That's The Glen? Wow, I remember the Glen Bridge as really high up in the air. Just up the hill from the streetcar barn. The Glen Bridge had the CPR train tracks on it. Westmount Station on the west side, POM Bread on the east side of the bridge. Fresh bread would come out of POM and be pulled on wagons on the walkway beside the tracks, over the bridge to Westmount Station where it was put on trains. The trains didn't stop too long at Westmount Station and the bread was loaded on to the train very quickly. I can also remember trains on the Montreal bound tracks at Montreal West Station unloading those metal milk jugs onto trucks from Elmhurst Dairy. I remember the Glen Bridge as being much bigger than the picture. The old mind is fading the memories I guess.
Grammah2 the old st lawerance may be clear today,.but it is for 1, no where near as clear as most of the oceans waters all around here,......particularly all around Vancouver Island ,which is considered by divers to be one of the best places on the planet to dive,.....(Campbell River rated very high ,.as well as right here off the Southern Tip of Vancouver Island),............and the 2nd thing would be that if the StLawerance or the back river were anywhere close to 1600feet deep (where the ship stopped,.(it gets a little deeper further out),.........you would never see the bottom either.............the two cannot be compared,..... but point taken the old river is cleaner than it was,.......but it is still the st lawerance and I wouldn't drink directly from it.........and I would be hesitant to even swim in it ,.... ___________________________________________________HF&RV
Hi Grammah2 ,....aside from seeing minnows,....You would be astounded at the creatures that come up with the fishing gear ,ie: traps and long lines etc etc......there are some creatures down there that you wouldn't believe.......and when they are inadvertently brought up from such depths, they their innards turn inside out ,.as they call a home a place with far more pressure than at our level ,....and that's why they will literally turn inside out..........very weird to see,......
a story as recalled from chilhood memory's: Jersey Milks and Civil War Boots (Dec 19/05) I knew this kid named Rupert who ate chocolate bar sandwiches. His all-time favorite was a Jersey Milk sandwiched between spongy white Pom Bakery bread. In Montreal at the time, the Pom Bakery had trucks, green trucks, that delivered breads, small cream-filled cakes, May West’s and other baked goods directly to your door. We used to wait behind a neighbors car or a way too high snow bank, and when the Pom truck came round the corner, which it always did, without fail, we’d dart out from wherever it was we were hiding and bumper ride the back of the truck. The best boots for skitching, as we called it, were those plastic cowboy boots with the fake fur lining and shiny, un-variegated soles. One of my friends, a half Native half Japanese kid with Japanese parents and a full-blooded Japanese sister, he’d been adopted from gods know where, had these Civil War boots with a belt and cool buckle around the ankle. He could run, as they say, like the wind, and hang on by one mitt as the truck careened round corners, down straight aways and through heavy traffic. It wasn’t uncommon to see a green Pom Truck racing down the street with a collection of mismatched woolen mittens stuck to its bumper. One of my hands was always freezing cold, generally the one I smoked with, so it wasn’t such a big deal. Rupert lived in a dark row house near Fisher Park with his parents and little sister. One day I came over to get Rupert, to ask for money or a cigarette, or maybe just because I had nothing better to do, and he had me wait for him on the carpet in the front porch. Wet boots were murderous to mothers, or maybe just his mother, I never did figure that out. I was standing there shifting my weight from one foot to the other, something I did when I had nothing better to do, when I saw this little figure standing down the hallway half in the light, and half out of it. It was Rupert’s little sister, standing there staring blankly at me, or at least I thought it was me, chewing an elastic band. Her mouth and teeth were working the elastic band furiously, like it was her last meal or something, and her eyes, those blank, crossed-up eyes, just stared right through me, past the front door and out into who knows where. Rupert told me his sister had this thing called Downs Syndrome, and couldn’t be left alone in the house. I asked him how come she chewed elastic bands, why not candies or licorice? He said, looking down at his Civil War boots, ‘I dunno, that’s just the way it is, I guess’ Story found on the Internet,........but who didn't Bumper ride............hahahaha ...........................Have Fun & Remember Verdun.........
Hi Sandy, Those POM Jam tarts were fantastic. So were POM Oatmeal Cookies, POM Crumpets and POM Cupcakes. The POM trucks always smelled so good when you would step in the doorway to buy a cupcake or jam tart. I do not remember the Wonder Bread BINGO cup cake. I can't believe I let a goodie like BINGO pass me by. I consider myself a nineteen fifties Montreal junk food expert. I remember the first Moon Pie I ever had was in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Allards Bakery I think. The Moon Pie was huge, chocolate and tasted out of this world. It would be great if we had those prices today. 10 cents for a cupcake, 5 cents for a small bag of Humpty Dumpty Potato Chips. 3 Double Bubble gums with the little comic for 1 cent. How great was that!
That is true POPDOG,.................POM bakery did mena Pride of Montreal,......and I believe it had a French interpretation as well ( but I cannot Remember offhand what it was) perhaps JMH can enlighten us...........but being a bakery in Westmount just near the old Car BArns,....( and old stables at one time) ,......my money would remain with the Pride of Montreal..............
Thanks for the pic of POM bakery. Whew.....I can remember waiting in that bus stop right out front of that building. 1962....44 years ago. Of course that does not reflect my age, I've been a long time young, lol. Cheers.
Hi Les, Thanks for the picture of the construction , brings back memories ,as for Pom Bakeries , it is now all Condo's , I knew one of he Harrisons as I did the maintenance on their elevators , good people, business was getting slower for POM as the big guys moved in , so they sold the building and rented a place in the east end , never heard of them again, wonder if they still sell POM bread , will have to check . hang tough Jimmy

To whomever!! I have tried to place pics here in the Verdun Connections "Photo Album"on numerous occations but it seems that a certain person takes them out, I would just like to know why. All the pics are about things that have to do with Verdun and my experiences that I have incountered in the years I have been around Verdun. They are pics of things from motorcycles to places I have visited. I have noticed that there are other people that have done the same as myself but there photos do not get deleted. An explaination would be muchly appreciated. I am not the type of person that would degrate anyone person place or thing. So I will be looking forward to some one replying to my concerns. Thxs

Hi Sandy,.....it sounds like we've gone full circle,.....and Banks will start appearing as institutional banking ,more formal dress code,.....and the relaxed atmosphere will slowly disappear,....and back to the staid old 'banker' image,.........the pendelum is swinging back I guess,.........personally I would like to see 'Customer Service' re-appear.........hahahaha We've gotten rid of People in favour of machines,....and I don't think it has streamlined anything other than the loss of jobs to ATM's ,.........the same as when we ohone a company to speak with someone,....and we get those automated answering machines,......press # 1 ,........etc etc etc ........when the old days a receptionist would answer the phone and place your call to the appropriate dept. or person,....and they could do this far quicker than these automated people replacements we have today,.................Perhaps we will feel a little better ,paying all those 'fees' to get your money out of the bank,...or keep it there,,........Banks make enormous profit,..so maybe they want us to 'think' we are dealing with 'professionls' and seemingly justify the high cost of doing banking with them.......( gotta dry clean those suits you know)..............hahahahaha the employees on the other hand may benefit by now only having to have a few sort of 'Uniform Type Suit jackets " and not have to keep upgrading their clothes so as to not appear to be wearing the same thing,.......now they 'will be wearing the same thing ,but that's Ok.....hahahahaha ************************************************HF&RV
Hi Sandy ,in case your interested at all,...I have a book here that was written by a gal who was part of the VSE ,...and was /is a lawyer,......and she wrote this book about Banks,....... the Title "Don't Bank on it".........now I read this book 20 years ago roughly,.and the things she spoke of then have come to pass somewhat,.....and I would imagine it's applicable world wide,.........it is not a riveting novel,....but it is quite an eye opener,......and as I say the same things apply today as she suggested would happen then,.............it may be of interest to some ,.....if not ,chalk it up to another post of throwing something at the wall to see what sticks.............hahahaha these pictures are of the front & back covers of the two copies I have (different printing runs)........the info (if someone's interested could be used to find the book possibly in a local library).............................. ****************************hf and remember Verdun*********
Hi Sandy, Yes, I've taken this month to work to deadline on some writing competitions so have put the novel aside until next week and haven't been able to participate. I've submitted a short short story called Birth Date to both the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association contest (winner gets $2,000 pounds!) and CBC Anthology contest. I won third prize a couple years ago and $1,000---$100 of that went to taxes--- the most I ever got paid for writing! I also submitted the winning piece, Perennial which was broadcast on the CBC to a non-fiction contest as the piece has yet to be published. I simultaneously submitted (a no no) Perennial to another contest. and will be entering it and a short story called Smoke Summer to the WRiters Digest contest. There will be 100 winners with various prizes and the grand prize winner gets to go to New York and meet with publishers and agents. A long shot but what the hay! Sometimes a writer can't see the forest from the trees and so I had Smoke Summer workshopped last month, and received a great critique from the Writer in Residence for the Canadian Authors Association---I'm a member--- so I've been writing away every day after I get home from work. I also attended the CAA's monthly meeting yesterday, and listened to performance poetry...so yeah, been busy. I'm not a prolific writer, but everything I've ever submitted has gotten published eventually. I have received rejections but after 2 tries, the work usually gets published. I'm not afraid of rejection or constructive criticism. Now an opinion is just that and I don't take them seriously....You know, you have to believe in your work and reach high. Smoke Summer is my last short story 'cause I want to concentrate on the novel. I've been enjoying the messages on the board and was also April fooled. It would be like losing a family, wouldn't it? I've always been gullible.... BTW, it's Marietta Freeland's birthday today and I'll be calling her tomorrow. Will ask her if she remembers you. She's getting on and I'm a bit worried about her...

Check their website to see what is available. I listen to the electric lunch hour every weekday. When I stopped at the Oka ferry dock, I took a few pics. The ferry is not running yet, as there is still ice on the lake............. ......I hope whoever made these tracks is still around....
Nice pics MPU,......... the river break up of ice was always a good sign,..........but as for those tire tracks,.......hope he was coming towards shore................. Nice colour in those photo's ...............
Hi Sandy, I spoke to Marietta this evening and she celebrated her 85th birthday yesterday. She still sounded like the same old Marietta we knew, but she said her mind, hands and feet are going. I noticed that she was getting forgetful as I had to repeat things I had already mentioned. She was delighted that you had remembered her. She didn't at first and wanted to know your married name and she doesn't remember your husband, but she said to tell you that she remembers your hair and stride and lovely smile. She had been taken out for dinner and lunch the last two days and was happy to receive calls from all over Canada including England. She did get around! I mentioned the white rabbits and she laughed. She said she couldn't remember why she said it but must have had to do with Easter coming up. Well, that really tickled her that you remembered her so you made her day. She sounded spunky as she always did but obviously slowing down.... Dolly
Here's some useless trivia which I'm sure a lot of you are aware,.........but one of the Rock Bands from the 60's took it's name from a 'SteamRoller' Buffalo Springfield Forms
At the time, Mohawk was living down the street from Dickie Davis who handled the lighting at The Troubadour and was sharing a garden apartment with a young folk singer by the name of Stephen Stills. "I guess it was getting a little crowded at Dickie's so Stephen ended up at my place which was right in the middle of Hollywood on Fountain Ave. The house was about 30-feet square with huge high ceilings and stained-glass windows. It was originally built by Thelma White of Thelma White and Her Hollywood All-Girls Orchestra. There was a bathtub in this place that was all hand-tiled and held about six people. It was sunken into the floor and had the story of Don Quixote around it. There was a fireplace that took up a whole wall with steps that went up the side of it to a bedroom loft. "Stephen and I started talking about putting a band together. I told him to wish up a band and we started contacting the people and bringing them into town. Richie Furay came out and Stephen kept talking about this guy Neil Young he had met up in Canada. We had originally flown Kenny Koblun down from Canada but he freaked out and flew back." "One day we were driving along Sunset Boulevard in my Bentley. I was in the left hand lane driving down the street and I looked over to the right and there was this hearse pulling up next to us. I had never met Neil Young but I'd heard about the hearse and I turned to Stephen and said, 'This is your friend here, Neil Young!' and it was. It was really telepathic and quite bizarre. Actually it was Neil and Bruce Palmer." "As far as the eventual name for the group, Buffalo Springfield, we pulled up in front of the house one day when they were repaving Fountain. There was a steam roller there and on the back it said Buffalo Springfield. I said, 'Hey, that's the name!' I pried the sign off, took it into the house and nailed it on the wall." Buffalo Springfield, one of the most influential groups of the 60s, was born. Weird Useless Trivia Co. Victoria BC...............................hahahahaha HAVEFUNAND REMEMBERVERDUN

She owes me a call, but I'll give her a call and have her bring me up to date with everyone. She was (or still is) in charge of the Quarter Century Club and they all have their Christmas luncheon around November.
This picture doesn't go very far back in time ,.only 1979,.....but I though I'd post it,...because of the 'sign 'the kids are holding up. I guess that Martha Liddell would be BIM 's Grandma ? ,.......I think I've heard that she was heavily involved in the Verdun Sports scene when we grew up,....in te 50-& 60's,........so it's nice to see the name still honoured here: Just in case you hadn't seen this one BIM,.....Here you go: I am not even sure where the shot was taken,.....but certainly a lot of happy kids ,.... and your family name leves on,.........That's a Nice Legacy ***********************************Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Les & Popdog, I could not find these pics last night, but I did this am. I stopped at this famous eatery last year and tried the usual, hot dogs, fries, and spruce beer, as far as I can recall they were excellent! Of course as I said ''as far as I can recall'', this was almost a year ago.....you know 'oldtimers' kicks in now & then...... as you can see from the sign the street is "Aqueduc'', and the restaurant is still called Emile Bertrand. The facade is not as classy as the old one was...................m.p.u. Will be heading off to Cornwall tonite to visit the Mrs.....................................
Thanks MPU ,.....I Remember you posting those pictures last year,......glad you got a shot of the sign with the name of the street on it,..........because I could not for the life of me,Remember or recall that name......(it still doesn't make sense to me ,...but getting an oldtimers memory I guess),......the only good thing about getting old & forgetting things,..is that I can hide my own Easter Eggs..................hahahahahaha I really appreciate the pictures,.....Your like our Roving Reporter,....btwn you & Jimmy(kungfu),......we get our mental updates from Montreal......... Glad to hear that you had good Stemies & Spruce Beer,........maybe Guy just got a bad day (if there is such a thing in a Hotdog............hahahahaha),I know the women make their own Spruce Beer,...and you can drink all you like while your there......it always seemed very Beer like Yeast taste etc etc,...........I love the stuff,........ Thanks Again ********************************************************hf&rv
Ralph, That's the restaurant on the bottom of your message showing the new locale of the Emile Bertrand restaurant on Aqueduct street that I went to last summer with my U.S. visitors. As you can see, it is a far cry from the old one on Notre Dame street, but I suggest that those Hot Dog and Root Beer lovers go see for yourselves. and you be the judge and let us know your reactions. Guy
Hello guy 5479,...I agree the exterior leaves something to be desired,.....and from your experience so does the spruce beer,.....but I will definetly give them another try ,when I make a visit to Montreal,........and I would probably go to Magnans again as well ( on the tavern side),...but I will also try the Capri for it's menu,...supposed to be pretty good,.....I had been in there many times,.but never realized they had a real good menu,......So I will have to try their food too........ ......as for the old Spruce Beer Shop,.....I think perhaps a good pressure wash of the facade,....and perhaps some paint is in order, but even at that,it still is on a less than inviting street,.....at least on NotreDame you don't have the feeling of being closed in as you would on that side street,....but Westmount it never was.............hahahahah but friendly it certainly was,.......I also Remember at that same corner ,(Mountain & NotreDame),....there was a bar with a long sign running the length of the building (Mountain ST side).....this sign had plenty of Flashing Light Bulbs on it,........the name of this Place was called................................the Town Casino.......anyone out there Remember that building,..........another Spruce Beer shop further down Notre Dame towards StHenri was also good ,....but not as good as the one we are speaking of now......another Restaurant /Bar was also a few corners away,...called the All American ? There sure were a lot of places to get food or drink in Montreal..................it's part of Montreal's legacy as a Gastronomical Capitol of North America..........(at least one of them ,nowadays)<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>
RE: RV 8291 ,............Guy I just re- read your post ,..........no wonder the 'Spruce' Beer,.....you had was (not so good),.........from your message you suggest us Hotdog & 'Root'beer lovers to check it out again,............I'm sure you meant 'Sprucebeer Lovers',.....but they would certainly have different tastes..........hahahaha ************************************HF&RV*******************
Hi Winston,.......how was your Vegas trip ? I'm sorry but I don't know what message you are referring to,..re: abuse@chase .com....... What am I not getting here,....did I miss something ? I'm getting Slow I guess if I missed a message or something......... ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////HF&RV
Hi Popdog,........if you go to Mountain & NotreDame,....you will see the old shop,at 1308 NotreDame,.....but one street west of Montagne(Mountain) is a little street called Aqueduc,......the Hotdog Store is on this street,........You will find it No Problem,......the name of the store is on the picture in MPU's posted message (just a few back from this one),........I hope you find the Steamies & SpruceBeer Good,......if your looking for a Dining Experience (this is not the Ritz..............hahahahaha) but Good luck ,if the same people own it,...then I would hope the food has stayed the same..............looking forward to your report, Thanks Again ............................HF&RV
how about some news on greene ave westmount,is george whatever still got that great place? the last name tsonos, i could be wong. just thought how quaint that street was. is dominion engineering still around? my uncle larry barrett was a union rep there. for years, then consultant. thanks for update on spruce beer, steemies, YUK.!!! forget it. i hated that stuff. how about pepsi cola ,may west or sept en haut. as frank would say, new york ,new york. da, da, da, da, da, but DUNN,S WAS THE BEST... hi, how about G
Dunns in my opinon was Ok ,....at one time even good,....but I suspect they had been reading their own press clippings,......but I do think that over the years all the familiar places,....Ben's , Dunn's ,...Schwartz's ,........were all of somewhat equal calibre ,but also over the continued years ,...places like Berube's in the Point,.....Adams Restaurant in Lasalle ,......as well as nemerous other restaurants arond the old town.....were every bit as good as te Downtown Restaurants,.....but only Downtown got the accolades,.....(even when they were'nt really deserving of them.....) ........but let's face it Our Memories make all the places we frequented ,the absolute best bar none.................hahahahahah

Some Greene Avenue stuff,........but maybe too low down.......... http://www.morrisseyfamilyhistory.com/lovell.html I will try to find some Greene Av ,......hangout info,......but I can't place the name your referring to. Have you any more information,......and we'll try to find some stuff for you.......................................................................
I believe the place on Green Ave, Westmount, was a restaurant owned by the Alevisatos family and their son George who was married to my cousin Linda Downey, owned By George Deli, also on Green Ave. They opened the Deli in 1970 and I believe George has retired from the business. I don't know if the restaurant is still owned by the family, or if it is still there. The parents had passed on quite a few years ago.George played for the Alouettes way back when, can't remember exactly, don't want to make anyone older than they are......Dianne
Les-F I had a smoked meat platter which included cold slaw and pickles last week at the La Belle Province at the West Island Mall which I shared with my wife. We had plenty to eat and I even brought back some left over for an evening snack. Cost about $12.00 or $6.00 each and you know, the food was pretty good. When I go to Moes it costs me about $20.00 including tip. Guy
Hi Bubbacut ,...I agree tucker the little fink (hahahah) should be boiunced out for quite a while ,.his antics are over shadowing the leafs ......and it's being misinterpeted as team spirit ,......the guy is an a$$ ,.......but nothing will come of it,....I think it's biz,....as usual in the NHL,...........lip Service is all any of these 'intent to injure' penalty's will ever get,.....but it would be easy to set a correction course, for the league,.by suspending the offending player for the complete time it takes the injured player to recover,........Then the offending player serve his meagre suspension or NHL disciplinary measure, whatever that may be,.........but players & teams would soon ge the message that your guy is out until everyone is back to normal,....and to avoid the team from sending a goon (or in this case goof) out to deliberatly take someone out ,....the offending team should have to bench (dressed ,healthy scratch),..from the line up ,a player of Equal Calibre as the injured player is,...so a double whammy of sorts,..a very quick message would be sent to everyone to Play Hockey, not Assault
Guess it depends on who's doing the survey: Survey ranks Canadian cities among world's best places to liveLast Updated Thu, 14 Mar 2002 10:04:34 EST CBC News LONDON - Vancouver and Calgary are up there. So are Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. All five Canadian cities rank high in a worldwide quality of life survey by the international human resources consulting firm William M. Mercer. Calgary ranked first for cleanliness and Vancouver tied for second in overall quality of life in the annual survey the firm says companies use as a guide for considering where to locate their businesses. Want to read this whole article: http://www.cbc.ca/story/news/national/2002/03/11/cities_020311.html and for every time you type in Canada's top 10 Cities,....you will get some wide discrepencies among them, .......but I've been saying for years ,.....Victoria is a horrible place ,.not only would I suggest not living here,.....I would highly recommend not even considering BC period....There's really nothing here & it's boring, Oh sure it's fine for little visits,(bring lots of cash),..and spend it in the little shops ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,as for 'crackheads' we've got plenty,....I think every city in North America does nowadays................ Seriously though I like the Burlington Area,.......but I notice that there is a lot of Homes for Sale there,.through the MLS listings,........Why is that ? Are people just flipping houses,.....particularly in the North East section of Burlington,.....and I've watched this trend for a few years,..... http://www.mls.ca/ Checkout for yourself the whole country province by province,.........There are many great spots in this country we call Canada.........but there are very little bugs here 9Victoria ) relative to many other spots across the land. ********************************************************HF&RV
Another interesting website (matter of opinion of course),..is this one called Relocate Canada,.......... I have just come across it ,so I'm not really familiar with all of it's options,.but it seems to be a point and click deal,..blah blah blah.......... http://www.relocate-canada.com/ Have Fun & Remember Verdun.............................................
Canada year after year gets the nod,.as one of the highest ranked places to live: A Great Place to Live Best overall quality of life In a recent quality-of-life ranking of 205 world cities by Mercer Human Resources Consulting, five Canadian cities ranked among the top 25. Highest Standard of Living Commonly measured by real GDP per capita, Canada grew faster than any other G7 country over the 1997-2003 period. This turnaround is due to improvements in Canadaâs productivity growth and a rise in its employment rate. Lowest Cost of Living The cost of living in most large Canadian cities is lower than or comparable to similar U.S. cities. Best in addressing environmental concerns Canada ranks best among the G7 countries in addressing environmental concerns such as air and water pollution, land protection, and greenhouse emissions. Safest Place to live Canada is well known as a safe, just and peaceful society. Canadian crime rates have been falling steadily since the 1990s. Canada tops the G7 countries as a safe place to live and conduct business and also has the most fairly administered judicial system. Best Human Development In the latest United Nations Human Development Report, Canada ranked first among the G7 countries and fourth among 177 countries surveyed. but there are pros' & cons ,regardless of where we live,......and a case I'm sure can be made for every one of our locales.....................the grass isn't neccessarily greener (longer maybe ,but not greener),...on the other side of the fence (or country ,as the case may be) Here's the link to the website : that contained the information above: http://www.investincanada.gc.ca/en/885/A_Great_Place_to_Live.html Just around here I have seen property bought for very high prices,..only to have te exisiting home removed,....and a new one built.........so as you can imagine ,the land values alone are the real value,.......and as Popdog said some places you can buy a property with a nice house on it ,....and you couldn't have bought the materials to build for that.................It's a crazy world out there right now,.......and makes me wonder if we will see some sort of correction soon.........the Optimist 's are claiming it's only going to go higher,.........and the Pessimists are waiting for the bubble to burst, Personally We're waiting for that Extreme Optimist,(with no end in sight thinking) to bring a moving van full of cash,.........just before that Extreme Pessimist with the 'pin' comes to burst the bubble.................hahahahahaha ............is there insurance against Armageddon..................hahahahahaha or Hell Freezing over.............(where's the Eagles, when you need 'em) ***********************************************************hf&rv
Les_F For insurance against Armeggedon I think you have to join the Jehovah Witnesses. I have a very good friend who belongs to them, and she says Armeggedon is coming and only they will be saved !!!!!!!!! Just had surgery on my right hand, so now I know how you guys who use the "hunt and peck" method of typing feel . The hardest part is trying to use the mouse with the left hand.....damned little thing is running wild. Cheers.
Hi Mom,.......hope your hand gets better quickly,......Did you have carpel tunnel ? I've had experience with that but never had the surgery done ,although I was scheduked for it a few years back,.....I was in Montreal of all places when tey phoned to move my appointment up a few days,.....so i couldn't make it back here in time ,....and when you do that ,...you go to the back of the bus again..........hahahaha Nice to see you back on for a bit ..... Type Slowly...........hahahaha as for the JW philosophy or any oragnized group,......I'll take Armageddon..............hahahahahaha oh oh here it is again forgive me father ,for I have sinned,........hahahahahaha There's that (can I say Dam) light again ,.......and it's not on the sundeck,,,,,,,,,, ***********************************************************hf&rv
Yup...carpal tunnel. Surgery was the court of last resort. Jeezzzz it hurt so bad that I was even willing to cut the hand off......lol. It's hurting pretty bad right now, but it kind of a 'good' bad, if you know what I mean. Okay, all you guys (and gals) keep on posting, I probably won't be responding a lot (bet some of you think that's a good thing....as Martha used to say hehe) but no problem with reading the messages. Gads, I just can't wait for the Easter Bunny and his chocolate eggs. Yes, my name is Linda, and I'm a chocoholic. Cheers for now.
Thanks Betty, It takes a whole heck-of-a-lot to get me upset. Kudo's to Maggie for getting me real good. I've learned that when you give ..... you got to expect to get back. Linda's Philosophy 101. Cheers. ps: enough typing for today. The brain can't get the hang of being left-handed!!!
Hi bubbacut,.....I have the same opinion,.that'things' can't keep going up,.........but I also wonder if it is just a little bit of age making us more cautious,..........the reality I see is that the kids coming up the pipe,..and having not alot of oportunity, for large paying jobs,.....(ie: the computer world ) it's outsourced to India,.etc etc I have said for a few years now that we are going to need 'tradesman' with the eventul retirement of people our age ,..etc etc. but even at that,.......the 'affordability' of a new home ,,,,,seems to be all but a dream.......especially if these up and comers are not skilled in something or other,..... (Have we become our parents.........hahahaha), I have a few of those house story's from around here too... a small house up the street did the same thing it's now had 3 owners in the last year and a half ,to two years,....each reeping a tidy sum........but the most recent seller pocketed almost a huundred G's ...........makes us wonder sometimes,..but if we sold we would only have to dish it out on the other end,.....and all you end up doing in these times of rising real estate,.......is you are effectively 'Trading Houses'........it would be fine to sell and move to another area, that isn't rising,......but Everywhere is rising,......and I wouldn't want to sell, and live somewhat out of Victoria,....to only have to move back as we get older,.....so that we 'd be closer to the hospitals,....hahahahah Isn't getting Older Fun..........Sooner or later they will get it all...............hahahahaha
Hi Linda ,.......I can empathize with the hurt,...........but the new hurt will go away,.........(hopefully),..........I can't stand doing a job (even hammering ) and my arm starts to feel almost tearfully painful..........Yup I can empthaize,.......or something falls right out of my hand ,......and I can't believe it.........(hasn't happened with a cool one yet...............hahahahaha)...........We'll keep typing ,......but your going to Owe us big time,...when your hand gets better................ I see your Snowbirds are home for the season...........free air shows for you guys .
Steve it sounds like Walter (Popdog) knows and awful lot of people around your area,...maybe he knows someone willing to hire you 'sous le table',.......or even part time,......He's seems to always be willing to help people,....(Just a Thought) you never know who knows who.......
A Verduner doesn't get caught ,....you know that Steve,,,,,,,,,,,,hahahaha Do what's best, it was a thought ,.........but being a Volunteer (driving a truck) would be very admirable................hahahahahah Good Luck ................................HF&RV
Depending on your Equity situation,......for those who don't owe much on there homes,..a personal loan (could be in the form of a line of credit) etc etc,.......pays down your house far quicker,.regardless of interest rate,....more comes off the principal,.......and your far further ahead that way.........but if it's a qualification issue then the long term mortgage appears easier,.....but you'll pay way more for a lot longer,..........Pay it off quick if you can .......(Just a Thought)
If Homes are that inexpensive in Timmins,...then people would be further ahead than renting that's for sure,.......but unloading the place later can be tough if the market is saturated........
Hi Popdog,....I've been reading the MLS listings for the Ottaws area,..and I checked out up north Timmins,..Kirkland Lake,.......cheap up their ,..also saw a place on the river in AlfredTown ? ,.......existing cabin on the river ,but the property sounds nice,....it's listed by a Laurie Seguin (?),.....but by the time you build something and pay for the property,.....you'd be in for more than you cab get ................not a good deal).................I will check out the Cornwall area as you suggest ,......there are many nice old homes around there,.........but I still see nice homes in the Burlington area,.....and the run into Toronto wouldn't be bad(if you had to go to T-O. ,but the other way is nice to the old StCatherines Niagara,...etc etc .......but the homes are a lot more than the eastern part of the province.................I'll read more tonight
Les and popdog ..........Thanks for the help.As for getting caught I worked the 90s driving dump trucks while on father's allowence. Can't drive standards any more the knees caps are in three pieces. That's an old thing from my sports career.Walter let me know your companies name. I might know some one looking for a good company. Steve
A little story about 'Business'...........if the print is a bit too small to read on that story,.here's a larger print version that may be a little easier to read..........I just came across these two papers ,that I've had for many ,many years,.....but I think the message is as relavent today,as it ever was...................***********have fun & Remember Verdun************
I suppose the theme from that last post is basically one of Using Common Sense and Trust your instincts,............... I also like what Walter (Popdog), said in one post " Get the Fear , Out of Your Head" this is a very important bit of advice,........and I will Remember to use that line ,where I can. 'it makes alot of sense' Here's another paper I have had for quite sometime that deals with the " Common Sense" theme:Also you have to Trust your 'Street Smarts' that we learned while Growing Up in Verdun............so it makes sense to Have Fun & REMEMBER Verdun
Look at these things I am coming across ,that are just packed away in boxes,.......it reminds me of MPU's findings of rare old things ,that were of interest to his Dad,.......I guess one day ,my kids will find some of these things,.and wonder why I would even have these,......Well I guess it's quite simple ,.you come home from some event or whatever ,and you throw them in a drawer,.and then the drawer gets moved to a box,and the box gets moved to te basement ,.......hahahahahaha and years later a strange collection of oddities, are found that appear to make little sense,......which is exactly what they are 'oddities that make little sense' ( to others).............hahahahaha an old business card from the Spruce Beer Shop,..........(mind you I have a lot of business cards from over the years as well)Now have a look at this next item: ..got these while on a quck trip to Montreal,..and couldn't get anything but Stand Up General Admission,.but anything was Ok if it got you into the old Montreal Forum...........checkout the price $9.50..................hahahahahah I Remember being in Montreal for only a few days ,.and went to two games........these were spur of the moment deals , but planning is better if you wanted good seats in those days,.........hahahahaha
Hi Grammah , the savings in time & cost of fuel for the car, have some merrit to them,....the other thing is that at least the homes are new and enjoy many more improvements to them,.than buying older homes,.......so she most likely has the benefits of these new things,.......You should see some of the ages of a lot of homes out here,.....it's hilarious to see half million and up for what amounts to an ordinary house......
Yes I can Remembver the last visit to toronto ,.was enough of a remonder that I no longer would like to participate in that amount of traffic,......it's true in only a few days ,you aclimatize yourself to deal with the traffic,....but it's something that I can do without,(and not miss at all),......... As for the disappearing agricultural land,......I belive it's extremely short sighted for the devceloppemnt of this farm land,......it's again Greed Driven,...and the cost of food to bring it into these cities,.from futher & further away,..will just allow cities to be held captive to the rising price of food......with the cost of shipping anything these days ,it certainly doesn't make sense to make farmers have to ship things from further away,...nor is it terribly smart to be dependent on outside food sources,.....then it's sell to the highest bidder.............Hopefully Common Sense will come into play.......(I won't hold my breath).........We've just had a discovery here that some developpers paid off a guy in the Gov't to release some land from the 'ALR' (agricultural land reserve),....the inside Gov't guy has since been charged with a sorrt of influence peddling & taking bribes,....etc etc .........(nothing will happen to him ,I would guess),...but the fact is we too cannot afford to allow more loss of growing land,.....one big problem is that the Farmers aren't the ones making huge profit on their product and hard work,....so it's understandable that they would like to enjoy some benefit of the large tracts of land they happen to own,......Especially when everyone else's property values are escalating in a seemingly unstoppable fashion, It's a two edge sword for sure ,....... ********************************************************HF&RV
eye'm taking spelink lessons soon...............hahahahaha man that last post was filled with errors,.........trying to type to fast (and as Bubbacut mentioned a while back,............I try to type fast ,.and I CAN"T,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hahahahaha
Remember when Montreal had a lot of crime,.....it was no secret in Montreal....and everyone was aware of certain goings on,...and of course with that came the fact that no one knew what was going on...........hahahaha I just came across this website ,.. about Organized Crime,......(isn't all crime pretty much organized to a degree).....anyway here's the web link: http://www.primetimecrime.com/Recent/recent%20organized%20crime.htm it has stoires from all over ,.....it seems big time crime is alive and well ,throughout the world,............but as weird as how pervasive crime is,........I still think that most people are very law abiding, and most people are decent .......of course this is not to suggest to leave the 'rose coloured glasses on' .......
A little story as appeared in the Front Newspaper ,part of te Montreal Mirror, http://www.montrealmirror.com/ARCHIVES/2000/110900/news7.html Remember also in the early 70's there was a Crime show on CBC (or was it CTV) I think it was called the CAnadian Crime Connection,....or something like that,....it seems the Biker GAngs have dominated the news for a few years,....but back in the 60's 70's etc there were family's well to known to everyone ,.that seemed to be in control of various parts of the city,........ I wonder how much has changed if anything,......probably just a new group, New Boss same as the old Boss..............as the song goes
Well Les , I am settling in for the Habs , Ottawa game , needless to say , go habs go , also watching Toronto Blue Jays, I am now A blue Jay fan, first time in my life I stick up for any Toronto team, however I am also a Yankees fan, I figure it this way , if Montreal Expos are gone , may as well follow the teams you see the most on the idiot box ( TV ) so its blue jays and yankees , which wil keep me busy till the fall , hang tough Jim
Hi Jimmy (Kungfu) .....Remember the good old days ,when they use to say (or at least I did) ,....There's 3 things in Life you don't bet Against The Montreal CanadiensThe New York Yankeesand of course Muhhamad Ali...........................I sure enjoyed those times...............hahahahahahEnjoy the games Jim............talk at you later ( I've got the CJAD ,warming up ) unless the games on the tube,......but there's also a ball game on,.......most likely the BlueJAys.........(I don't watch a lot of ballgames ,till the end of the season)................................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun
I wonder why Abershier is in .....saving Huet for possible Ottawa meeting in the playoffs ?? Habs being outshot 11-2 (did I hear that right ?) ,....in anycase ottawa just tied it up
I suppose your right Jimmy ,but with a 5gaa, so far with the hAbs ,he's going to have to convince me a little better..................hahahahah Maybe he was just not happy aboput being traded ,and has come to terms with it now,......but I wouldn't be surprised if he disappears in the off season,.....he's already saved the Habs a lot of D0-Re-Mi,...... so they should be Ok for signing some players later on......but for now I hope he keeps up the good work,.......even if he does want out,...it's to his benefit to showcase himself better ,to entice some good response as trade bait. the Habs have always given me cause for a heart attack,.the way they 've been outshot over the years ,..yet still seem to win............I'm as relieved as the coach is when the final siren goes.................hahahaha
Extreme Weather .................check this site out ,...it may be of interest ,..... http://www.extremescience.com/weatherport.htm Habs -Sens 1-1 after 1,............... intermission time ,.................and supper time too,.(for us on the Westcoast anyway)........... Hi Dianne, I have a friend who retired recently to Ottawa. Prior to that he lived in Montreal West for 30 years. Tommy Alevisatos was his neighbor & one of the owners of Nick's, later Chez Nick on Greene Avenue. My friend in Ottawa told me that The Quebec Language Police gave the Alevisatos Family a rough time in the seventies. Tommy Alevisatos passed away about five years ago.
Another VCHS Grad photo,......it looks like it was taken around the same time & studio,.as bahama265, photo in her profile Perhaps Carol knows this Grad................sorry I scanned in B&W,....but the original sent to me was of the same sort of color-ish B&W ,......as yours Carol. Yes that Google earth is quite a good tool to use,.......Thanks for reminding me Steve,....Many municipalities also offer aerial / satellite photos of your property,...it's pretty cool to look at ,glad they took some photos after I built my sundeck.............hahahahahaha now they can use the same pics to determine if buildings are bigger than they are suppose to be,.....or if you own waterfront out here,..you are not suppose to move anything on the beachfront re: large Rocks etc etc.......we've got the lunatic overboard environmental groups out here.......(Heavy on the mental & slow onthe enviro)...............hahahahaha and if your digging anything on your property,.don't find any old dogbones or stuff,..at least don't tell anyone if you do,...cause then they can make you do an enviromental assesment........not to mention the First Nations would be all over you claiming it to be a sacred old burial ground or something like that............hahahahahah When it's really 'Rover' after he got hit by a car.................hahahahaha "Big Brother is Watching Us All" ............................................of course I'm only making all this up,.in case they(whoever 'they' are) is listening...................I wonder if the pres will leak this to the press..............hahahahaha

Steve, I work for Service Canada here in Edmonton. We used to be called Human REsources Development Canada (HRSDC). We provide all sorts of services to Canadians including CPP EI, etc. You do not need to go to a Service Canada Centre (that's what we're called now. Go to this web site http://servicecanada.gc.ca/en/home.html and click on "I have a disability" and everything you need to know is there. You can also call the 1-800 O Canada number if you want to speak to someone. We're trying to provide one-stop service for Canadians and we're including things like getting your passport, or registering your pleasurecraft. We want to make it easier for citizens to get all the information they need without going through a lot of numbers. Try it and let me know if they were able to help. I can tell you that in Alberta, you will get CPP disability if you can prove your disability is severe and prolonged. It's pretty tough now---you have to practically be dying --- a bad back for example doesn't cut it here although I know someone who received it in Montreal for a bad back. Let me know if I can help. Dolly
Hi Bob, I don't work in the service end of things. In September 2005 we became Service Canada. That replaced two departments --- Social Development Canada and Human REsources Development Canada. If you call the 1-800 O Canada number, which is on the web, they will provide you with all the information and forms you require and if you need to see someone, they will make an appointment so you don't have to wait. If you need to go to a Service Canada Centre, they will tell you where the nearest one is for you. We are expanding into the rural areas so that Canadians have one stop shopping that is convenient and accessible.. You can now get your SIN, your CPP, EI, register your pleasurecraft and get your passport either by calling the 1-800 number, on the web site or by visiting a Service Canada Centre.. There will be 12 federal departments for whom we will be providing service. We also have an office of customer complaints, so we really mean to please. We're kinda becoming the "Walmart" department of government. .

«Oldest ‹Older 801 – 1000 of 2601 Newer› Newest»Hi Sandy.

Hi Grammah2 ,....aside from seeing minnows,....You would be astounded at the creatures that come up with the fishing gear ,ie: traps and long lines etc etc......there are some creatures down there that you wouldn't believe.......and when they are inadvertently brought up from such depths, they their innards turn inside out ,.as they call a home a place with far more pressure than at our level ,....and that's why they will literally turn inside out..........very weird to see,......
a story as recalled from chilhood memory's: Jersey Milks and Civil War Boots
(Dec 19/05)
I knew this kid named Rupert who ate chocolate bar sandwiches.

I said, 'Hey, that's the name!' I pried the sign off, took it into the house and nailed it on the wall." A trip to Verdun,.......POPDOG,.I guess you'll have to find some Biere de Pinette. man I like that stuff,...I Remember the name Marco was sold around Verdun,...... I know it's still in Quebec,.....but the old Spuce Beer Shop ,I used to go to was on NotreDame & Mountain ,.......it is now around the corner from there,.......and they had all the spruce beer you want ,.......and great Steamies too ! Hope you get a chance to try some ,although I'm sure your trip will bebusy enough,as it is,............Have a Good Visit,............don't forget Woodland Restaurant for a Pizza,..............and Quebec Smoked Meat on Centre Street in the Point (right near Wellington),...........you can pick up all the Smoked Meat you want there .........they are one of the main suppliers to most Restaurants these days,.......and have a variety of other cjhoice meats as well,......Roast Beef etec etc I don't know where this photo was taken,..but it looks like a roadside stand,.....and it is Marco,........ ..................Have Fun & Remember Verdun,
Les-F, I went to that Bière d'épinette (Spruce Beer) and Hot Dog restaurant in St Henri last summer with some American friends from California, Jeff Dodd with his father Barry Dodd after going to the F-1 races. Jeff is a pilot a C-130 with the U.S. Air Force and flies regularly to Irak, Afganistan and other hot points in the middle east. They are relatives on my wife's side. Anyway, the food is not bad but the restaurant is not very attractive nor very clean and the front is pretty shabby unless it has changed since then. Just saw the news this morning, a U.S. Aior Force Cargo plabne crashed with 17 aboard, no news of any survivors. Guy
Hello Guy5479,.........everyone survived on the Cargo Plane,......good news,....... the Spuce Beer shoppe that used to be on NotreDame,......but has since moved arounbd the corner,.....was always a great spot,.for Steamies,.Fries,..Burgers,.....or Spruce Beer,....it was always presentable ,..at least teh location on NotreDame was,.....I have not been in the new location around the corner,....the original store ,was very small,..and easily kept decent ,.....for quick food ,....as far as a fine dining experience ,it may have been somewhat wanting in that dept..............hahahaha as you can see the original store owner was Emile Bertrand,.......and I always loved going here when I was a kid

remember a good italian rest on wellington ,passed church owned by the minnicucci family, are they still there? i went to high school with theresa minnicucci. carolyn bennett hey les...
Les-f, Well, I can tell you that the new owner does not keep her restaurant that spic and span as did Ãmile Bertrand. I will take a picture this saturday and post it to see the difference. Also, I was not impressed with the Spruce Beer, it was tasteless but you could drink all you want no extra charge. Guy
Well guy 5479 ,..the new owners must have let it slip badly,....that would be a shame,...Although Emile has not owned the restaurant for quite sometime,.the restaurant was called Silver's for a while ( the owner had grey hair) ,....there was a big write up in theGazette years ago,.....about how he had sold it to two women,..who ran it for a number of years,........this Emile Bertrands,...is actually on the border of Griffintown,....with the bordering streets of Barre & Ottawa, NotreDame od course,.......and I cannot recall the name of the very little street where this store moved to,....but it was a really small street,...I think there was an old City & Dstrict Savings bank on the corner of this little street,......Did you go to the same location as the picture I posted ,.or to the new location around the corner? I would hate to think that it no longer seves decent steamies or spruce beer,........although I guess everything changes with time,......and too often not for the better..........oh well I can at least Remember when they were good......................... ............................................................................................................HF&RV
Guy5479 this other little street that I think they are on now is btwn, Mountain,...& Versaille (that's where the bank was I think),..........but I cannot think of the name od this little street,.......(I wonder if it has one,.......hahahaah)
The little store in the background (with the Winchester sign) ,...was a little store that had a barber shop in the back,....and cigarette and candy bar counter out front,...as well as a little toaster grill,.........and Vic (the barber and the cook).........hahahaha Used to have great Toasted Hotdogs,.................this little store was immediately beside the Blacksbridge Tavern,..........and that streetcar you see ,is about to go over the old Blacks Bridge towards Mill St and all the old Meat Packing plants,.....and ship repair shops,..........the canal was filled in at this spot many years ago,..but I believe they have since reopened a small part of the old canal here again,.....part of the New Look Harbour or Port of Montreal,..........
Just think in a couple of months.
Will be opening. Steve

A funny coincidence, but just beside the Oka ferry dock, I saw a reastaurant with a big sign...... Marco Spruce Beer...I should have taken a pic, even better, I should have gone in and bought some......ah well, a good reason to go back....m.p.u.
Yes, I did know Kay Sangster and she passed away a couple years ago. Did you know Linda Merlin? She worked in the Exec and then for the guy in Systems (forget his name).. She owes me a call, but I'll give her a call and have her bring me up to date with everyone. She was (or still is) in charge of the Quarter Century Club and they all have their Christmas luncheon around November.

There sure were a lot of places to get food or drink in Montreal..................it's part of Montreal's legacy as a Gastronomical Capitol of North America..........(at least one of them ,nowadays) <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>

Hi bahama865:

Canada year after year gets the nod,.as one of the highest ranked places to live: A Great Place to Live Best overall quality of life
In a recent quality-of-life ranking of 205 world cities by Mercer Human Resources Consulting, five Canadian cities ranked among the top 25. Highest Standard of Living
Commonly measured by real GDP per capita, Canada grew faster than any other G7 country over the 1997-2003 period. This turnaround is due to improvements in Canadaâs productivity growth and a rise in its employment rate. Lowest Cost of Living
The cost of living in most large Canadian cities is lower than or comparable to similar U.S. cities. Best in addressing environmental concerns
Canada ranks best among the G7 countries in addressing environmental concerns such as air and water pollution, land protection, and greenhouse emissions. Safest Place to live
Canada is well known as a safe, just and peaceful society. Canadian crime rates have been falling steadily since the 1990s. Canada tops the G7 countries as a safe place to live and conduct business and also has the most fairly administered judicial system. Best Human Development
In the latest United Nations Human Development Report, Canada ranked first among the G7 countries and fourth among 177 countries surveyed. but there are pros' & cons ,regardless of where we live,......and a case I'm sure can be made for every one of our locales.....................the grass isn't neccessarily greener (longer maybe ,but not greener),...on the other side of the fence (or country ,as the case may be) Here's the link to the website : that contained the information above: http://www.investincanada.gc.ca/en/885/A_Great_Place_to_Live.html Just around here I have seen property bought for very high prices,..only to have te exisiting home removed,....and a new one built.........so as you can imagine ,the land values alone are the real value,.......and as Popdog said some places you can buy a property with a nice house on it ,....and you couldn't have bought the materials to build for that.................It's a crazy world out there right now,.......and makes me wonder if we will see some sort of correction soon.........the Optimist 's are claiming it's only going to go higher,.........and the Pessimists are waiting for the bubble to burst, Personally We're waiting for that Extreme Optimist,(with no end in sight thinking) to bring a moving van full of cash,.........just before that Extreme Pessimist with the 'pin' comes to burst the bubble.................hahahahahaha ............is there insurance against Armageddon..................hahahahahaha or Hell Freezing over.............(where's the Eagles, when you need 'em) ***********************************************************hf&rv
Les_F For insurance against Armeggedon I think you have to join the Jehovah Witnesses. I have a very good friend who belongs to them, and she says Armeggedon is coming and only they will be saved !!!!!!!!!

Okay, all you guys (and gals) keep on posting, I probably won't be responding a lot (bet some of you think that's a good thing....as Martha used to say hehe) but no problem with reading the messages.

A little story about 'Business'........... if the print is a bit too small to read on that story,.here's a larger print version that may be a little easier to read.......... Look at these things I am coming across ,that are just packed away in boxes,.......it reminds me of MPU's findings of rare old things ,that were of interest to his Dad,.......I guess one day ,my kids will find some of these things,.and wonder why I would even have these,......Well I guess it's quite simple ,.you come home from some event or whatever ,and you throw them in a drawer,.and then the drawer gets moved to a box,and the box gets moved to te basement ,.......hahahahahaha and years later a strange collection of oddities, are found that appear to make little sense,......which is exactly what they are 'oddities that make little sense' ( to others).............hahahahaha an old business card from the Spruce Beer Shop,..........(mind you I have a lot of business cards from over the years as well) Now have a look at this next item: ..got these while on a quck trip to Montreal,..and couldn't get anything but Stand Up General Admission,.but anything was Ok if it got you into the old Montreal Forum...........checkout the price $9.50..................hahahahahah I Remember being in Montreal for only a few days ,.and went to two games........these were spur of the moment deals , but planning is better if you wanted good seats in those days,.........hahahahaha

I wonder how much has changed if anything,......probably just a new group, New Boss same as the old Boss..............as the song goes
a short history in Montreal Underworld: http://gangstersinc.tripod.com/MafiaofMontreal.html
Hi Jimmy (Kungfu) .....Remember the good old days ,when they use to say (or at least I did) ,....There's 3 things in Life you don't bet Against The Montreal Canadiens The New York Yankees and of course Muhhamad Ali ...........................I sure enjoyed those times...............hahahahahah Enjoy the games Jim............talk at you later ( I've got the CJAD ,warming up ) unless the games on the tube,......but there's also a ball game on,.......most likely the BlueJAys.........(I don't watch a lot of ballgames ,till the end of the season) ................................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun
dandenault scores 1 0 habs , Kovelev is worth the price of admission , I love to wtch him play , the full package jim
I wonder why Abershier is in .....saving Huet for possible Ottawa meeting in the playoffs ?? Habs being outshot 11-2 (did I hear that right ?) ,....in anycase ottawa just tied it up
Ottawa outshooting habs 18 3 , Abascher doing the job so far, have to remember he was no 1 Goalie for Colorado , must have some talent jim
Fresh Halibut tongiht ,... talk to you all a little later *****************************************************HF&RV
You know chickentaco2000,......That's what I really appreciate about being from Verdun,./Montrreal,..almost everyone is more than willing to help someone,.espcially as you say a fellow Verdun(ite - er),.........but it seems we'd help anyone....I like that **************************************************HF&RV Dinners Done , and the Halibut lost,........hahahahahah and I made the Homemade Oventype Fries........none of those left either,........so I guess there all happy.
Well Montreal's McGill University,....has always been famous for 'Putting Out ' great students teachers doctors,..............now it seems it will also be known for "Putting Out"................ http://www.cjad.com/content/cp_article.asp?id=/global_feeds/CanadianPress/EntertainmentNews/e040653A.htm it seems they will do a spread on the University, portraying it as a party school....................it's Montreal all the schools were party schools seems odd that McGill would allow it,.......but hey Any Advertising is Good Advertising ,..........I guess the above cover is for a May issue, You can see the cover on the CJAD site: it's not revealing ,but I'll let you decide, rather than post it.................
Start of the third (2minutes in ) ,...and it's 4-2 Habs,......................keep it going I hope Go Habs Go,...........................................................................but watch those Sens, they can score fast. Have Fun & Remember Verdun

VCHS (early 60's) That was a real Modern looking school for it's day,.......with the large Auditorium,..(and later a swimming pool , too) but that was after I left there '68ish,........... Dolly
a link to the form for CPP disability, (this "kit" has 32 pages) http://www.sdc.gc.ca/cgi-bin/search/eforms/index.cgi?app=profile&form=isp1151&lang=e
Thanks Sabby and MaggieMck for those sites. Steve

We're kinda becoming the "Walmart" department of government. .
