Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.

Sandra, I've been trying to find a picture of the old Fifth ave theatre for a long time. Finally you have posted one that will contribute to my research on old Verdun theatres. Can you give me information on the year and who are on the photo. I presume you are the baby. Here is a picture of the building that has replaced the theatre. I took this photo a year ago, April 26th 2007. Guy

The picture I posted of the fifth ave theatre had to be taken in 1949
or 50. My brother Bob who my dad is holding
was 11 months older than me and I was born in 1950. My dads name was
John V MacDonald and the other man
was my uncle Phil MacDonald. They were also raised in Verdun and went
to Woodland school. I love that picture.
The buildings were certainly more interesting than the new one. What
sort of store is that?

Well it's not this company ,at least the style of the wagon is a bit different,. ..........but there has been other Milk Wagons posted here ,a few years back I think it was Sandy who posted one with a similar style wagon,.?>????? and a horse whose name she knew ( I think?) HF&RV

Could have been Guaranteed Pure Milk Co. ??? ....................or I wonder if it could have been a Bread Wagon,........ as most deliveries of almost everything was at one time delivered by Horse Drawn Wagons,...... I guess they would have had to get their respective routes done quickly in the Winter as the milk would be likely to freeze fairly quickly?? wouldn't it,........ I Remember having to get the milk in the house quickly or it would start to get ice in it,.and the cream at the top would start to push the cap off.............................hf&rv
I remember Guaranteed Pure Milk, Borden's and J J Joubert - JJ Joubert delivered to our elementary school and we had Guaranteed and Borden's at hone. We had Pom Bakery at one house and Wonder Bread at my Grandmother's.

Hi Great to see old photos...question in the school photo what year is it and who is the guy in the middle..looks familiar but hard to make out on screen. Last time a bunch of us spoke to Bob he was going out for the Verdun Bengals when they were starting up..not sure if he was on the team that won Cdn.Championship I think he would have been... Lad(class of 70)
The guy in the middle was Shane Moores. He was in an all guys class but apparently he was so disruptive that
they stuck him in our all girls class. They thought it was punishment and it would teach him a lesson. He was on
top of the world. Cute, funny guy in an all girls class. Who could ask for more. We thought it was funny at first and
then grew to really enjoy him being part of the class.
Shane was a good friend of my brother Bob's . He was the type of guy who would walk in your house and hug
your mother. She adored him.

Absolutely! The name for sure. Bordens. I remember the
cow being called elsie.

My daughters think its hilarious that we had so little compared to them. There favorite ribbings is
"Hey ma, did they have toasters and blow-dryers back in the day?"
Well hell sure we did! The toaster that you had to drop the doors down on both sides and turn your bread over. Hopefully not burnt.
The gals would remember the blow-dryers we had. It came in a case with a long hose and plastic cap. The tv in the picture was the
first b&w we ever owned. I was about 3 or 4 when we got it. We were a little later than others I think. (1954).
