I have learned about a place in Guelph, called Pierre's Poutine. He is apparently from Montreal, not sure where exactly. They supposedly make authentic Quebec poutine and also have steamies and smoked meat. I have yet to try it, just found out about this on Sunday. I'm hoping to go there very soon to sample the goods, (except for the poutine, not a cheese person), but they say the fries are "real fries", so I'm looking forward to a steamie or smoked meat & fries. Will let you know how it once we try it.
Have a good day,
Carole

Hi Carole
I'm working in Oshawa these days. There's a little place at Simcoe and Bond called Montreal Steamies and Deli. Four stools to sit on. Just a hole in the wall kinda place, but nice. The steamies are very good. I haven't yet tried the smoked meat (probably because I can get it in Toronto where I live....Mel's Diner and the Centre Street Deli). The Oshawa restaurant also has Poutine...but, believe it or not, I have never ever had poutine. I have had the fries at this place and they are the real deal.

Hi Bob, I've never had poutine either. I always meant to go to Centre Street Deli, but never made it. Where is Mel's Diner? Take care, Carole
Carole Can you give me the address of the Pierre's in Guelph when you can? Sounds good... FYI now they even have Desjardins in Ont. Have one in Guelph... Lad
Hi Carole
Mel's Montreal Deli is at:
440 Bloor Street West
Toronto, ON M5S 1X5
(416) 966-8881
It's on the south side of Bloor between Bathurst and Spadina. It's on a corner, but I don't know the actual street name. But between Bathurst and Spadina will get you there. It's a 24 hour restaurant and it's as close to the real thing as you can get in Toronto. Owners are former Montrealers.
I have a buddy from the Point and Verdun who now lives in Vancouver. Whenever he's visiting , we make a pilgrimage to Mel's or Centre street. I think I kind of lean towards Mel's, but both are good.
Enjoy. Let us know if you go.

Have been there a few times and I can say that the dogs and fries are like MTL If anyone else gets a chance try it out Roy Molyneux
Hi Lad, The address for Pierre's in Guelph is 71 MacDonnell. If you try it out, let me know. I'm not sure how soon I can go myself. Carole
Thanks Bob. The next time I make a trip downtown, I will make a point of going to Mel's. Carole

We went to go & try out Pierre's Poutine on Sunday, since we were going to Guelph anyways but I was very disappointed to find that they are not open on Sundays. Oh well, next time we'll try for a Saturday. Take care, Carole
Hi Carole Sorry I did not get on sooner I could have saved you the trip..I was there Saturday Night. This place brought me back home...complete with steamies and fries.. I have his menu and I will try and scan it for you..prices depending not bad. I did not mind them because I figured this is just like being home...Recommend you go..he is open at night. He gets the bar crowd and the hockey crowd too. Here is the best part Pierre is from Verdun........his mother owned a store in Verdun We talked for a long time about home.I told him he was mentioned on this site and he told me then he was from Verdun...Too funny.. Thanks Lad, It wasn't too much of a wasted trip to Guelph, were going there to visit my sister in law anyways. I was just disappointed in not being able to fulfill my craving for a steamie! We will get there another day soon, we like to go the market there as well. I sure wouldn't mind seeing the menu if you do happen to scan it. Thanks for the info! Carole
