Yup I Remember those Z-ray machines and always wondered what kind of damage they may have done,.cause all of a sudden they all disapeared..........I posted some pictures of those machines quite sometime ago,.I will see if I have them around & I'll post them again,.Unless someone else saved them too & can post them......... Also Remember the Timex watches that lit up or glowed in the dark,.You don't see those anymore either,.cause they used a somewhat radioactive type of chemical.........hahahahaha but don't worry they were safe........( Our Gov't said so) hahahaha HF&RV pst " don't worry about all the other products in your house either ,like the Monitor your staring at,.or the microwave your heating up that 'good for everything plastic bowl' with your favourit microwavable snack.......or your cell .....and all those cleaning chemicals and paint remover stuff ,in the garage,.your completely safe.....................................hahahahaha HF&RV
I should have cleaned that last post up of all the computer crap,./.but I didn't see it till posted the message: So it may be easier to read directly from the site itself:\ http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/shoefittingfluor/shoe.htm HF&RV
Yes, I remember those very well. I thought it was the neatest thing to be able to see my bones in the shoe as a kid. I never gave any thought as to why my feet glowed in the dark though....lol... Jim
Really neat memory of the Fluoroscope. I remember looking at my foot bones at a shoe store on St Catherine and Guy Street. It kind of makes you wonder how come we all don't have cancer of the foot or leg.
I tell people out west about the xray machine and they don't recall seeing one when they were kids. I thought it was amazing that they could see my bones through the shoes with this machine. I don't imagine it was any more dangerous than all the other xray's we've had, but it does make you wonder.
i remember the machine in the middle of the store and the shoe salesman would tell us we could look if we wanted to. I felt it was too creepy.
Hello onesmack Sandy,.... I think the difference is ,we were all going to the shoe store to checkout the 'new' machine that let you see your bones via an Xray.......this was stuff of science & the future had arrived.......hahahahaha even though we had other xrays done, they weren't controlled by kids......and the lab tech or nurse or doc,.took the xrays from a completely different room,.not the middle of a shoe store...............hahahahahaha Those machines disappeared as quickly as they had arrived, but I suppose xrays weren't our only concerns,.afterall every school & public building in the country was insulated with asbestos,,.and then covered over by some 'nice' lead filled paint: Yikes , and we thought we had to watchout for just the traffic, nothing like escaping at lunchtime from our lead & asbestos filled classrooms to quickly run home for lunch & maybe buy 2 cigarettes for a nickel from the local store, who was kind enough to sell them to us 6 & 7 year olds,,...........hahahahah then a quick stop in the shoe store to have a look at our bones.....then home to a nice meal cooked with bacon fat & butter & and pies made with lard...................hmmmmm nothing like eating a bunch of stuff that solidify's at room temperature, only to be slightly heated to our bodies 98.6 temp,.just enough to get that sludge running through our veins..............hahahahahah Ahhhhh How I miss the good old days...........( Lol) HF&RV
You cracked me up! hahahaha
Here we were trusting little children sticking our feet into an xray machine, without any protective coverings, and everyone else standing around waiting their turn. About the asbestos and lead filled paint, odd there weren't more kids going home nauseous and more banging headaches. Yes and all that good wholesome food our mom served up for us at lunch. Every day, Campbell's soup spiced up with all the goodness of MSG., in every spoonful. On the side a sandwich smothered with margarine, that came out of the squeeze bags with the small dot of yellow food coloring, and topped with baloney. yum!
Sounds like a Kraft commercial!.
Well we all survived. Surprisingly. Sandra
