Moving Day on 4th Ave.
I found this photo in a book in our Roxboro librairie today.
You did it again Guy. Good work! Looks like it was raining and with mattresses aboard they best hurry. Is that a horse drawn wagon in the back ground? Maybe the 30s? I can almost hear that ancient truck idling. Bill
guy looking at the picture, you see the street isn't any cars parked back then to have a car was a big item to have. today traveling to verdun, i see there's no more parking spaces left, every day after work verduners have to race home to get that parking spot. no were to park your car in verdun, the avenues are the worst to find a parking spot.
Metalman Especially parking in the winter...on the avenues.. Good Times.. son in law parked on Verdun Ave couple of weeks ago at Gordon near where Bessie's hot dogs was..did not see the tiny little sign and came back to see the car was towed and droped at Grover's..nice 80 bucks or so...no one would tell him where it was because they did not have the paper work yet.So he went up and down the streets..best thing was my wheels..he paid it... Ah the memories of winter...at home..don't think I would trade them for anything.. Lad
.and best yet,.I seem to Remember everyone always moved to a 2nd or 3rd floor ( if you ever did get a bottom flat, you stayed there)....hahahaha and carrying those olf frigidaires up those stairs, hard to hold onto since the old fridges were heavy & had rounded corners,...for that real 'safe' feeling as your grip would slip........hahahahaha HF&RVNice Picture Guy ,I sure would like to go through that SHGV library,.what a blast that would be,with access to all these old photographs....& books.Guy ,is SHGV going to do another 'Then & Now ' night at the library,Remember a couple of years ago they had people bring in lots of their old Photographs?? or something like that................ Thanks for the Verdun Input,Great Stuff........................
Les, There is another group of Verdunites and ex-Verdunites that get together and bring old photos, the group is called Verdun Memories wich is headed by historian Kathryn Harvey and is tied in with the Dawson Cultural Center. We got together last thursday at one of the members house on Loyd George street and as you can see on the enclosed photos, each member made a collage of their old photos and we are in the process of making a quilt wich will eventually be presented at various cultural centers. A video was also made of some of the meetings we had wich will be shown at these various visits Guy

Have Fun & Remember Verdun I would love to see more photo albums poping up here,......especially with people who are alrady into Verdun Stuff,........Again great input Guy mucho gracias.................................
Les, I have already mentioned the Verdun Connection site to the group at the getogether last thursday and hopefully they will join up and share their old photos and memories. Guy
Maggie and Les, I have been reflecting on our 3 organisations, Verdun Connections, SHGV and Verdun Memories. We all have the same commun goal, to promote Verdun, through history and exchanging our past memories and old photos. Guy
Maggie, The following is an information page from our publication wich shows contact information as you requested. You may choose the information you want but I think that showing of our logo (crest) would be an interesting item to show, As for Verdun Memories who are tied in with the Dawson Cultural Center, I am waiting for an answer from Kathryn Harvey. Guy
Just a little correction regarding the Verdun Memories Group. They are affiliated with Dawson Community Centre/Dawson Boys and Girls Club in Verdun on Woodland St. We've been around the Anglo Verdun Community for almost 50 years.

Guy, I would be open to having contact information for SHGV and Verdun Memories on the opening page of VC if the groups are in favour of that.
Maggie, I will get back to you as soon as soon as I get the proper approval. Guy
Maggie, Could send me your e-mail number on my own so that I can respond to your proposal. Guy

Hi
Just a little correction regarding the Verdun Memories Group. They are affiliated with Dawson Community Centre/Dawson Boys and Girls Club in Verdun on Woodland St. We've been around the Anglo Verdun Community for almost 50 years.
Joanne
Joanne, You are absolutely correct, here is a pamphlet showing their sign. Thanks for the correction. Guy
