Buildings around Verdun/Montreal
This will be a busy spot ,next month:
,....I can Remember marching in parades with the sea-cadets ,.around Verdun,and CoteStPaul,........(why is it always cold & / or rainy,during a parade).......hahahaha
Great photo. Those are the kinds of pics that make me homesick. Just enough snow to enjoy the season. I am not Catholic, but do miss going to midnight mass on Christmas eve and having a light snow falling. It must be to answered prayers, because it seemed to happen all or at least most of the time.

Verdun photo from 2004,....we've posted this one before,....but it was a reality, and a common sight for us all:Notice the worker that walks along ahead of the snowblower,.this is to make sure there are no kids playing in the snow,.and now junk that would enter the snowblower,.....Remember how everything would stop, while you took time to watch this operation,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,They were sure good at it:
Another obvious and well known Verdun Landmark building in the background,...but seen from a back street view (instead of the more familiar shot from Wellington st side)Verdun was always busy, seemed like lots of traffic all the time,Always on the move.Just like Montreal itself,....the place was 'Alive'........things were happening..............................................
Ok two more shots from Verdun's first snowfall Dec 03/06Remember having to 'dig' out your old boots from their storage spot,...Where did our Moms store all that Winter Stuff,....when there were so many kids and such small houses........???I had to ad this familiar 'winter character',............getting ready for Christmas and all.....................You have to have a 'Frosty'........but when we were kids you built a real one in the yard,.and maybe had paper/platic one for the window/door.............They sure have a lot more stuff around these days..........................................................Merry Christmas ................. (and it's not even Winter yet,...........at least for a couple more weeks)
Good question Les_F....where did all those winter-type clothes, hats, boots, mittens get stored? I remember our closets (if there was one in our bedroom) as being itty-bitty hang an outfit and pair of shoes arrangements. And usually we shared a bedroom with a sibling....not much room left for storage. Wow, now I'm wondering what about all those Christmas decorations, etc. Even considering the shed as storage....it wasn't that big, and assuming the winter clothes got stored out there....didn't they get moth-eaten? Guess one luxury of getting older is that now I don't have to worry about such things. My motto now is "less is better" and am now passing on a lot of my "stuff & treasures" on to the next generation....let them worry about where to store it!!! Cheers.
Saying Hello to the Snow..........................Remember these statues in the yard of the Priest's residence,........corner of Galt & Wellington,................................that church sure occupied a lot of space,.......must be worth a Fortune.....................
Hi Mom'45 ............I agree ,.........I also Remember the smell of Moth Balls,.when we were kids,.......but I don't think we would have stored clothing in the shed./?? We may have but some of those sheds were not the nices smelling places,......after a 80 years or so.....I do Rememeberr big trunksnow that I think of it,....could they have stored all the winter clothing for all those kids?...............YIKES (hahahahaha)and as for your less is better theory,.........I've been trying to get Teresa' to believe that for years .......Les is Better..............hahahahahah
That's what I was referring to.............hahahahaha catpiss sounds nicer than urine..............hahahaha but it all smells the same........and all those sheds were the same,...........Imagine the things they found when tearing down all those old sheds,....I Remember when every room in a normal flat / row housing style building had a brass light fixture hanging from the center piece of just about every living room,,,,,,,and pretty much everyone took those things down and chucked tem in the gargbage,.....to go with a more'modern' lightbulb,,,,,,,,,,,,,hahahahahah and now People pay big bucks to antique dealers along NotreDame St,....so they can find those old treasures........hahaha Rememeber the 3 bulb light fixtures?........those and the old brass beds we couldn't wait to get rid of.............hahahaha
Mom I remember when we had to climb up in the shed and get those decorations down and bring them into the house. Storing them on shelves in the shed wasn't any fun either. Bob

Les-F, I would like to bring you up to date about Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs church. It is now combined with Notre Dame Auxiliatrice and Notre Dame de la Paix into one parish. I have a connection with all 3 churches. I was baptized at Notre Dame de la Paix, confirmed (confirm챕) at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs and was part of Notre Dame Auxiliatrice parish therefor went to that church every sundays when living next to the church at the corner of Galt and Bannantyne. I guess its just a matter of time before they keep Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs and demolish the other 2 churches unless they find a way to recycle them. Guy
Hello Guy,......I suspect that with dwindling attendance,(for what ever reasons,.),....that these properties will eventually disappear,..but I do Remember only 4 or 5 years ago ,when several Montreal area Churches were, being sold to the private indivudals,.some into Condos(whatelse),some into neighbourhood 'rec' centres,......and some into private homes,........sadly though a few were just as you say 'demolished' that is too bad as all of these buildings certainly are as Unique in style & archtecture,..as they were diverse in the people's that frequented them,........and I think they do ad to at least the scenic history of any city,......Even some church's out here,(and across the country ,I think),..have been turned into other things for other uses,......we have a few here in Victoria ,.one is a Music Conservatory,...and I believe another is used to help needy people,.......Slowly Our collective past 's will change and fade away.........so it's imoprtant to take pictures now.....
Looking form East to West,...you can see the bridges,StHelen's Island, etc etcand just because were from there ,We can see Verdun below is a 'chilly looking Montreal snkyline'.........the Sun has to set some time:......just thought I'd ad some colour to the mix:
Talk about closing Churches, a group in the Eastern Townships has formed a coalition to fight hydro Quebec, blaming them for closing Quebec Churches. They are of course right. As a Church Warden responsible for the building and it's costs, I can tell you that Hydro is the biggest expense in any Church. It is a disgrace that Churches are forced to pay the same price as Industry. They are petitioning the Premier for help. Ed
Wouldn't the decrease in population (smaller families ) as well as shifting belief patterns,..cause the erosion of some of these churches ? It would make sense that their bills would be harder to meet,.seeing they have to heat the same size building ,with fewer mass's and less donations/collections,....?Seems when we were all growing up in Verdun that every Church regardless of denomination, were all quite busy ,with many priests putting on many services,....How many priests would be working in say Saint Willibrord's Parrish these days? ........
remember these old Caleche's ....We saw them so often that ,we take them for granted , but they are neat looking (unless your driving behind one).........hahaha
Any of you been in this restaurant in Verdun ?I wonder how many restaurants are in Verdun now? Seems like as some company's have left ,many more Eatery's have opened up:I guess we ate out more often in Montreal........................
Well this Place is pretty obvious....................hahahahSince most of the answer is in both this question,..as well as the Picture:Where is the Place yopu wonder,..............Well See if you can Guess ?Sorry about the size of the picture Guy,..........but it is a big 'Place'........hahah
Here's another hint the building is full of gargoyles (at least on the outside) I have no idea what the people on the iside look like...........hahahahaha ...........the old buildings were always so ornate,.....it would be cost prohibitive these days to do this type of work...........
I cheated though!!!!!!! Hotel Place d’Armes, Old Montreal’s first boutique hotel, combines classic urban chic with the 19th-century architecture of the three historic buildings that house it.
What did you do Arbutus ? hahahahah Did you right click on the photoin anycase your right Hotel Place D'Armes............Good Detective work ,.......but you had professional training,(& obviously Common Sense).........hahahahahah Good Work Gary
Les, Have you stopped to think that those buildings are a century old and show no signs of cracking or decay. Yet, today they build an overpass that last a few years before collapsing. My question is, If they could make cement like that then, why not now? Ed
Ed , I couldn't agree more,....I suspect when things like over pass's collapse without much warning (an hour or so for Papineau) ,,,,,and when a structure like the Big O-we,........drops a quarter section out of it ,after only 30 years or so,....the answer is ,....the builders were onthe Take,......and built crap,.....I cannot recall a building collapsing while I was growing up in Montreal,my guess is that while there are some really honourable & trustworthy journeyman still around today,.....there seem to be far more shysters....
Montreal in the late 50"s ...................Now I would think JMH knows exactly what kind of tram this is,.....and maybe even whose driving it.........hahahahah ......................Hi JMH,....................where are you these days,......
Sorry JMH I meant to ad this webaddress for you ,as i know you Appreciate some of these type of sites,....some of the photos are very familair to me ,.but the site seems to originate out of Manitoba,......you may find it interesting, http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/alltime/pics/ I know we have a few tram/bus afficianados,so it may be of interest to others to,......might even promt or spark a memory for someone of days gone by when they use to ride these old beasts................Hope so
Montreal Winter CarnivalRemember the Verdun Winter Carnival at the Auditorium ,,,,,,the Aud would be packed for this event every Winter,...Remember they used have a button to wear stating Verdun Carnival & whatever year it was,........Do they still Have the Verdun Winter Carnival..???????
The only other place I have seen those Caleches is in St. Augustine Fl. I was trying to tactfully say with no snow at this time of year, but there is no other way, hope I'm forgiven Ruth
Les I don't remember such modern looking street cars, although I do know the names of the cars on the street. Can't tell one car from another today. The street cars I remember were a dark khaki colour. And I also recall the sensations, noises and the smells while boarding one. I rode from 2nd and Wellington St. to the Point a few times. Verdun Avenue Street cars were before my time I think. S.A.
RuthArmstrong & HappyDi,.............their is another city ,that has Caleche Rides around the city,.........That would be right here in Victoria BC,.................generally the one you can see in this picture is one of many ,that you can find lined up along that side of the street,..waiting to take tourists on a ride :Here's the homepage for the Tally Ho Carriage Tours http://www.tallyhotours.com/index.htm
They also are not new on the scene, they have been conducting tours since 1903 Tally-Ho is Victoria's original horse-drawn sightseeing tour company that has been "Creating Happily Ever-Afters” since 1903.
Our horse-drawn carriages and wagons offer guided tours of the City of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. A sightseeing tour with Tally-Ho is perfect for a romantic getaway, wedding celebration or entertaining guided city tour with your family and friends.
Your Central Park style carriage ride is a guided tour that begins from downtown, near the Victoria Harbour, and continues by some of the most beautiful heritage homes in Southern Vancouver Island. You may also choose to meander through Beacon Hill Park, appreciate the scenery along the Dallas Road waterfront, or discover the second oldest Chinatown in North America (only San Francisco's is older).
Our historic Victoria carriage tours can be enjoyed with that special someone or with your family. We guarantee that you will leave with lasting memories. After reviewing the prices nowadays on their website,....I can see they have been literally taking tourists for a ride, for over a 100 years...........hahahahaha
Hi Bill , I have to admit I can't recall one looking like that, but it's definetly a Montreal Streetcar,....I would have been very young at this time,....but these streetcars were around until 1959.........there tracks were around for quite awhile after that, Church & Wellington, would have some exposed old tracks, that you could see when te pavement would wear down ,....but I think they've removed them all by now........they use to just pave over them, I posted a photo here a year or so ago, showing the removal of some tracks along StCatherine (they only did this a couple of years ago,...so they've been buried for some time...................
Here you go Bill ,..it wasn't as long ago as I tohught actually May 2006 For many years now, the streetcar rails in downtown Montreal have been entombed under the asphalt of the streets, only surfacing in the spring when the potholes would expose the metal underneath. There had been talk of resurrecting the streetcar service in the downtown core for some time now, with many feeling it would be both convenient for commuters and good for tourism, if antique styled streetcars were used. This pic surfaced (so to speak) hahaha,....when there was talk about Montreal installing a new streetcar line,
Hi Les ! Always in Chicoutimi, after a short visit in Mtl. BTW, can you localize this place ? (I’m sure you can) What a great place ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrN3Rlr8j8s&mode=related&search= Thanks for the photos on tracks removal in Montreal. For one week now, we have some snow ! JM A nice pic of Montreal’s PCC-3511
Hi JMH good to hear from you,...and Yes of course I recognise that area......hahaha it surprising how narrow Wellington St really is,...I haven't used YouTube for a little while, but they have some great 'bus trips' available through there,...I posted a number of those a while back,...Thanks for reminding me of the resource again,,,,,,,, Was this your dilm contribution to YouTube,...or a random video ? in any case it is neat to revisit Verdun, without even leaving my desk.................... Best Wishes to you & your family for the Christmas Season,\ & of course the New Year,..............2007 (where does the time go)
Les, I posted 3 videos at YouTube (related to buses, the other ones in NDG and Saguenay) BTW, as you know Verdun very well, can you tell me if the bells heard in the video are from Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs or Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix ? JM
I will make a point of watching those other videos of yours,.....as I was actually babtized in NDG ..............as for the bell's in the background ,.........I thought since the video is at that end of Wellington St & Lasalle,.......I thought the bell I was hearing was perhaps the 'ghost' of the old La (Belle)BBQ,..............hahahahahah
Les, I was baptized in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes church (4949 Verdun ave., Verdun) http://www.lieuxdeculte.qc.ca/fiche.php?LIEU_CULTE_ID=49312&LieuSuivant=11&LieuPrecedent=9&debut=0&nlieux=19&type_requete=lieu&lignes=25&RefMunicipalite=66035&mrc=66023 JM
I would guess that most of us have had a feed here at the BarBBarn,....afterall it's was owned by a Verdun(ite),(er).............and don't forget the celebs that used to frequent this palce as well.................and it only counts if it's the Downtown spot ,.......that's the real onethe West Island location is OK,.......but it's not Downtown..................I had to ad this shot of the Bay, all dolled up for Christmas:Day or Night .........Montreal's Alright...........................hahahahhaa
Now I have to beleive that each & everyone of you have been here at least a few times in your lives..........................or hoow about Skating here ,till your feet were freezing, and you headed back to the Chalet to have a HotChocolate.........................Was it my imagination,or was this Beaver Lake Shack/Chalet always Freezing inside?..........Always neat to revisit these palces isn't it?........Montreal .................we had it all................................
Remember when walking from Beaver Lake up to the Chalet Lookout,.....along the way,you would every so often, have to sidestep some horsecrap ..............hahahahaha Here's the culprit.....Remember these horse drawn sleighs on the Mountain........it was almost a 'gimme' that when you went to Beaver Lake & skated for a while,.you would inevitably combine that trip ,with a walk up to the Chalet & the Cross,.....then down those long stairs,..where you could catch the #58,and head back to Verdun................(oh yea ,you had to have a Hot Chocolate at the Chalet too).............always an adventure........
Les, those sleighs bring back memories for me. My husband and I celebrated a wedding anniversary one year riding one of those sleighs. We were warm with the furry blankets covering us but they would always fall away whenver there was a turn in the road ---practically fell out of the sleigh a couple of times! Of course, it didn't help that we were also drinking to keep warm --- we carried a flask of whiskey. I remember the rhythm of the horses' hoofs, trying to keep the blanket over our knees, the scent of winter and the sound of the horses' breathing. It was a wonderful way to celebrate a wedding anniversary. This Sunday, my husband and I are celebrating our 35th but no galloping horses for us here. Thanks for that memory. Dolly
" the scent of winter"I do Remember that,..walking outside on certain days ,before the real start of Winter,....and there was a certain smell,..that just smelled like winter:Funny every so often scents from childhood will pop up,....these are the natural observations we made as kids,.....and they stay with us for a lifetime,......That is neat,....they do say the the power of smell is very important and prompts memory,...........I guess they were right,.....Those blankets in the Caleche ,were always very heavy material,......Do you suppose they were actually 'horse blankets'............hahahaha & maybe the horse was trying to shake them out of the carriage on evry turn??? hahahah
Les, I remember them as fur skin blankets. I think it made an impression on me because I had never seen anything so thick. Maybe it was bear but somehow I remember the colour grey. Fur rugs were big at the time --- the seventies... Dolly
Yes even the ones they use here in Victoria are very heavy,.although winter's aren't usually too severe here,.....some of the nightair by the Ocean,.can be cold & damp......but hwat the blamkets are made of ,I really don't know:I will have a look one day ,when i'm down that way:
Who are the night people? In Montreal, CBC reporter Raoul Engel finds they're a varied bunch: hustlers, bums, leather-jacketed desperados, nightclub-goers, sailors, tourists, tabloid reporters, show people — and strippers. In this segment from the CBC Radio program Cross Section, Engel talks to "Bubbles," who's tired of her night job. Later, a taxi driver tells Engel about the fares who want to find a "blind pig." A little of Montreal from 1959 via the CBC archives........Here's the direct link to the site ,so you can click to play the interview; http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-111-1288-7353/1950s/1959/clip4 Thriving & Driving Montreal.,,.......................always alive:..........Now checkout this guy,....here's his cvomment on his new radio show at the time: It's the CBC's first radio show specifically for men, by men. Rod Coneybeare, the puppeteer on the CBC children's show Friendly Giant, is branching out as "editor-in-chief" of a new radio program called Man to Man. Right off the top Coneybeare says women won't like the show, warning male listeners to encourage their wives to tune out: "We don't want you to miss one word because of the wild screaming of protesting women," he says. Yikes............think this would get a rise today...............hahahahahaha......this guy on the show ,was also the puppeteer on the friendly giant show........hhmm: seems to be two sides to this guy,..I wonder if that could happen anywhere else.............hahahahahha http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-111-1288-7352/1950s/1959/clip3 ..........................very appropriate title on the screen"from the Archives"
Somewhere in the East End,.........you can see the old Refinery Storage Tanksit's a neat old picture ,.but I cannot pinpoint the exact location,.....anyone out there have an idea ??Here's a little easier one"..........Montreal always growing...................................................................
Crime in Montreal: I can Remember having a skateboard, and they were banned by the city, early 60's........ a band of hardened criminals,.........skating with reckless care & abandonhahahahahah Check out the cop has a weapon dangerous to the public, sticking out the window of the cop car,......(63 chevy)These two pictures are from a National Film Board movie called the,Devil's Toy...........................The Devil's Toy was made 1966, a time when skateboarding was considered by the general public to be a corrupting influence on it's youth. The film obviously feels otherwise. It's detached narrative tone is quickly undermined by silhouetted figures gliding across the frame and kinetic, hand-held shots of packs of skaters winding down the slopes of Westmount. The Devil's Toy was an early film directed by respected Qu챕bec director Claude Jutra. Jutra eventually went on to make critically acclaimed features such as Mon Oncle Antoine and Kamouraska. He also worked with Norman McClaren and directed many other excellent documentaries for the National Film Board of Canada. ...........Corrupting the Youth of the day...................hahahah (yea that's what did it)..........................................
Ok these aren't technically buildings around Verdun/Montreal,but I betyou Remember these :Remember those slabs of maple fudge.....................mmmmmmmmHow did us kids ever end up with any teeth........hahahahahHow much sugar was in these babies,..........also I used to like those ,Sugar Pies................... 10cents made by Vachon ???Thiis maple stuff above was from a place called Dionne's
I remember taking the streetcar up there and sking all day. then ending up at snakes bend where the streetcars turned, I often wondered if anyone went off the end of the trail and ended up on the tracks Bob

Wish they'd make up their minds, in post #473 the police had skateboards as the cause of the youth of the day:but in this old Montreal Paper the "Ici Montreal" sort of a 'Midnight ' clone I guess,.or a forerunner to 'Allo Police' (always had great front page crime photo's making one wonder if the photographer was also the purpatrator.............hahahahahSeems 'Goofballs' were corrupting the youth here.............hahahahI always Remember my oldman referring to the teens of those days ,as being all 'hopped up on Goofballs'...................hahahahahah
Not only were the Westmount crowd more wealthy (if you had $5 bucks you were more wealthy than us)........hahahaha,,,,,,,,,but it seems they were getting more action too !!! Since it was a Marathon,..how come we didn't have a team from Verdun 'entered' 9so to speak) hahahahahaand Notice another name for this paper, the Jour/NuitMotreal newstands certainly had an array of papers, nothing like being 'wellread'........................hahahahahah
Just a picture that is a different angle of Morgan's similar to the era of the one that Gary (Arbutus) posted a few days back,.........B&W stuff still looks good ................This image has been posted before a few times but I thought I'd slip it back in their again:........ Montreal
JMH & Guy5479 ,.....may recognize this spot,....I know JMH went to this school,..... the photo is 1951,......perhaps some of you will see some old friends in this picture:What was this Richelieu Club ? was it the school,.or is this a Neighbourhood Help Group,.........I Remember Richelieu Grocery Stores,(later Metro),..........but I am not certain about this one:Well based on the Richelieu sign in the background for tBread,.then I guess it is related to the Richelieu Grocery Chain afterall,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Anyon else know ,......is this perhaps something like a Knights of Colombus,or other similar organizations.........??Ahh OK now I'm finding more stuff on this group:Does anyone Remember where this place was situated,...I have to say it looks somewhat familiar,........but I think that's maybe just the Power of Persuasion/Suggestion
Have a look ,at the guy in the front row,..on the left :I think that is Maurice Richard isn't it?------ and the guy on the far right looks very familiar as well ,is it Pronovost ??? I used to know all the Habs no problem ,but that was along time ago,..........Either way typical of the class of the Habs at the time,.coming to a local Verdun School .....and it certainly wasn't during the hockey season,.based on the baseball gloves the kids are wearing.........Hey..................the guy in middle behind the kids id Jean Believeau,.....now this is a neat picture,..........I'm discovering stuff in the photo as I type this message............hahahahaha
Just noticed in that previous photo,...that the guy on the top right ,..looks like Doug Harvey.................... Edbro ,...or Kungfu(Jimmy) you guys would recognize these characters don't you?I posted it again to make it easier to search the photo of all the faces, without having to jump back to the other post:
Have a look on the face of this little kid,.....she does not look too happy or enthused,...........but have a look at her bike,....seems a wheel has slipped off:Remember that happening a few times, and you had to find a cotter pin to keep that wheel back on there..........hahahaha Look at how simply built this old bike is................. Some Verdun kids ,......that could have been any one of us here I wonder where they are now.......................
Les, I see Jean Beliveau between Richard and Pronovost. I don't think that's Doug Harvey in the back row. I browsed some other pages in the album and saw that individual in some other photos.
Hi Gary ,..& jdt2grn, it is a great photo,.I wasn't certain on it being Doug Harvey,..but I think it bears a llittle resemblance ,particularly because of the year of the pivture,...that all of them are as lot younger,.and Harvey would have been in the beginning of the 5 year run,so he would have looked a little slimmer/younger ?? I am still not sure............Good website though isn't it?
Gary ,on second thought I think you are right,....but it seems odd that all the adults here (except the brothers),...they are all dressed in a very casual manner, which was unusual, because you very rarely ever saw a Montreal Canadien player ,not wearing a shirt & tie,...so this is definetly the off season, and I just thought they were all there together ,..probably headed out fishing later ,.or up to Toe Blakes' (on Saint Catherine, hahahaha)
Les, The picture album is related to Club Richelieu Verdun and many of the pictures are taken at their meetings and at church functions. Many of the pictures include clergy and a couple have Cardinal Paul Emile Leger obviously as a honored guest. The Club Richelieu was founded to promote French culture and language and was very involved with supporting Verdun youth according to their website. It also has a very close relationship with the Catholic parishes. Founded in Ottawa in 1944. JMH and Guy might be able to eloborate if I have mis represented what I read and understood. I remember that sign for the Club Richelieu but can't recall where it was situated. Gary Saaanich, BC
Thanks Gary,.that is sort of what I garnered out of the site as well,.Yes in those days getting Cardinal Leger to appear would have been considered quite a coup............. interesting website Indeedhttp://www.richelieuverdun.org/photos.htmlvisit the site ,.....and check out there photo albums ,some neat Verdun stuff
That picture of the RICHELIEU and Realestate office sure looks like VERDUN ave near Argyle......across from the old Leonard's grocery store .....if that is the place then the Realestate office became EGAN Realties......
I would imagine a quick check with Lovell's for that year,....and look up Legault & Gagnier ,general insurance company,.. Po-8-4719might pinpoint it (or would pinpoint it actually),.....I will check into that later,.....but I too, have to head out right now,....Btw: the year of that photo is posted on the site as well...... ......................................Have Fun Everyone & Remember Verdun,(now I'm off to get a haircut) (maybe get them all cut)..................C-YA
Les-F, That guy on the bottom right would be Claude Provost, another Canadien Player who died at least 20 years ago from a heart attack in Florida I believe. He was bowl legged and it showed when on the ice. But like Maurice Richard on the lower left, he had plenty of heart. Guy
Les-F, I am wondering if the guy on the upper righ might not be Ralph Backstrom and on the left Bill Hickey. They both played on the Canadien team at the same period. I'm only guessing as I am not sure. This is a great picture. Guy
Hello Guy,.....I have a few Montreal Canadiens Books,..I will see if I can recognize or put a name to the face,.....the only problem is usually these books have mostly team pics ,in uniform, and it might not be that easy to make out who it is,.....But all of them sure look young-ish,especially le gross bill..............................
the PVM,.....with the top floors ,not yet complete:.............Montreal would have rivalled any city for tall buildings, except the powers that be of the day, passed a law that no building would be higher than Mt Royal........or as you can imagine the Mountain would have become a mole-hill..................................................
Les here in Halifax there is a by law that states no buildings can be taller than Citadel Hill which would block the view of the harbour from the Citadel. Dianne
I didn't know that,...but I think it is a good by-law,.....it will preserve the ambience of the area,......We have a height restriction here in Victoria as well,....but there is always pressure to change the law,.so devellopers can make a killing and then go live somewhere else,.........but it's only a matter of time
Devellopers are constantly fighting city hall on the issue of height restrictions. And any new buildings that are constructed have to fit in with the 19th century buildings. so that means no modern buildings that are all glass and steel. They have to be built with brick and stone and have the mullioned windows. I think that is a good idea. they look really nice. dianne
A cold looking day down at the harbour,................Look in the background, almost top dead center,...and you can see the Farine Five Rose Flour sign,It still gives the impression of being a fairly busy Port,....... but nowhere like it was all those years ago,...............................I like the look of this picture,it sort of like being there, but not being Cold...........hahahahahah
This picture is from Jimmy (Kungfu's ) Neck of the Woods ,.guess I should have put it in the 'Neck of the Woods' thread:.......Certainly isn't Wintertime.................................................
SecondAve : Bill ,here's another shot showing pretty much the bridge that ,that other picture was taken from (the winter shot of Bonsecour ,that you asked about) it gives a better idea of where it is,.......(although it's not a Winter shot):...........you'll have to imagine the ice:
Remember Mansfield St : Looks like a day ,to be walking in the Underground part of the CityChilly.............................................................
Might as well throw in McGill College ,while I'm at it,............we've all walked around there at some point.................................... Funny how we almost pride ourselves,on having lived through & survived thos Cold Montreal Winters,...........you know the ones ,where we had to walk barefoot in the snow,.it was never above -25 F,.........and we walked 10 miles or so to school,...Uphill Both Ways,.........(and came home for Lunch) hahahahahahah Remember those Winters?????..........Nowadays we drive the kids to school incase it's too sunny .
Les Last year or so I heard rumours they were getting rid of the Five Roses Sign..think they were going to develop the place? Same thing with the big milk bottle at Guaranteed Milk... Lad
Les That picture of the kids in the backyard..I have one of myself like that almost identical. I got the shorts on,the shoes, and the trike...backyard on 6th.Hazard a guess and say that is taken in early 50's....dating myself. Lad
Yes the Company was sold to another Flour Co. & the word was ,the sign was going to come down,................ We mentioned it here,.and posted many pics of it,.... I think it is cerrtainly a very recognizable piece of the Montreal Skyline...........(some don't agree) ......I always liked this shot,.................................
Les My mother got me a job when I came out of high school. On De La Commune Common...down by the water and old Mtl. Used take my breaks and see that sign all the time. B rings back alot of memories... Lad
Yes That's why i like posting pictures regardless of whose in them ,.because we can all relate to those Verdun situations,............seems our backgrounds & experiences of growing up in Verdun/Montreal,.....were very much the same,..and it also seems to transend age,.as we have members here on this Verdun site from all age groups,.living all over the place,.....& we all can relate:So I like to encourage everyone out there to dig out those photographs from that shoebox in the back of the closet,.or basement ,...and let's have a look at them,...Everythng is neat to see after this many years,...........Those kids in the lane picture,.as Guy said were family pics of a fellow he knows from the SHGV.....(that's code for what we called the 'New Library' on Bannatynehahahahahah How's that for dating myself,........I Remember getting my 'first' library card for the Libraruy in the City Hall on VerdunAv,hahahahahahaha
Les Posting #453 way back....just saw it Ste.Catherine Street. Notice the 15 on the bus stop..and 350 is the all night bus...That pharmacy was being built when I lived downtown...Used to watch it going up when I went to work. Nice to see finished. Used to live in CJAD bldg. just east of the old forum... Lad
Wow you are doing your homework,.I had to go back and check out the bus stop,...........and Remember which pharmacy you were talking about,..I've posted a few pics,.and I usually Remember things (roughly) ,.but I'd forgotten that one,.Thanks for the prompt......................Digging up those old streetcar tracks,.amazing they 've been buried for all these years,.they must be getting a few bucks for them as scrap iron................
Check out this quick shot of a street we all know well, film taken by & posted originally by one of our members JMHhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrN3Rlr8j8s&mode=related&search= .....Listen to the familiar sound of a Bus whipping down Wellington,,,,,,,,,,,,,and Listen to those Church Bells in the background for a Quick revisit of Verdun Thanks Again JMH
Montreal sure is a real melting pot, and it's a real ethnically diverse city..........................It was always an interesting City................. from Bagels to Bombs ,.....Montreal has seen it all..........

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 503 of 503Great photo. Those are the kinds of pics that make me homesick. Just enough snow to enjoy the season. I am not Catholic, but do miss going to midnight mass on Christmas eve and having a light snow falling. It must be to answered prayers, because it seemed to happen all or at least most of the time.

Verdun photo from 2004,....we've posted this one before,....but it was a reality, and a common sight for us all: Notice the worker that walks along ahead of the snowblower,.this is to make sure there are no kids playing in the snow,.and now junk that would enter the snowblower,..... Remember how everything would stop, while you took time to watch this operation,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,They were sure good at it:
Another obvious and well known Verdun Landmark building in the background,...but seen from a back street view (instead of the more familiar shot from Wellington st side) Verdun was always busy, seemed like lots of traffic all the time,Always on the move.Just like Montreal itself,....the place was 'Alive'........things were happening..............................................
Ok two more shots from Verdun's first snowfall Dec 03/06 Remember having to 'dig' out your old boots from their storage spot,... Where did our Moms store all that Winter Stuff,....when there were so many kids and such small houses........??? I had to ad this familiar 'winter character',............getting ready for Christmas and all.....................You have to have a 'Frosty'........but when we were kids you built a real one in the yard,.and maybe had paper/platic one for the window/door.............They sure have a lot more stuff around these days..........................................................Merry Christmas .................
Cheers.
Saying Hello to the Snow.......................... Remember these statues in the yard of the Priest's residence,........corner of Galt & Wellington,................................that church sure occupied a lot of space,.......must be worth a Fortune.....................
Hi Mom'45 ............I agree ,.........I also Remember the smell of Moth Balls,.when we were kids,.......but I don't think we would have stored clothing in the shed./?? We may have but some of those sheds were not the nices smelling places,......after a 80 years or so.....I do Rememeberr big trunks now that I think of it,....could they have stored all the winter clothing for all those kids?...............YIKES (hahahahaha) and as for your less is better theory,.........I've been trying to get Teresa' to believe that for years .......Les is Better..............hahahahahah
Super photos, Les! Our shed smelled of coal and cat piss (or should I written, "urine"? To me, same difference). Jack

Guy
Hello Guy,......I suspect that with dwindling attendance,(for what ever reasons,.),....that these properties will eventually disappear,..but I do Remember only 4 or 5 years ago ,when several Montreal area Churches were, being sold to the private indivudals,.some into Condos(whatelse),some into neighbourhood 'rec' centres,......and some into private homes,........sadly though a few were just as you say 'demolished' that is too bad as all of these buildings certainly are as Unique in style & archtecture,..as they were diverse in the people's that frequented them,........and I think they do ad to at least the scenic history of any city,...... Even some church's out here,(and across the country ,I think),..have been turned into other things for other uses,......we have a few here in Victoria ,.one is a Music Conservatory,...and I believe another is used to help needy people,....... Slowly Our collective past 's will change and fade away.........so it's imoprtant to take pictures now.....
Looking form East to West,...you can see the bridges,StHelen's Island, etc etc and just because were from there ,We can see Verdun below is a 'chilly looking Montreal snkyline' .........the Sun has to set some time: ......just thought I'd ad some colour to the mix:
Talk about closing Churches, a group in the Eastern Townships has formed a coalition to fight hydro Quebec, blaming them for closing Quebec Churches. They are of course right. As a Church Warden responsible for the building and it's costs, I can tell you that Hydro is the biggest expense in any Church. It is a disgrace that Churches are forced to pay the same price as Industry. They are petitioning the Premier for help. Ed
brings new meaning into 'heading into the light'
Wouldn't the decrease in population (smaller families ) as well as shifting belief patterns,..cause the erosion of some of these churches ? It would make sense that their bills would be harder to meet,.seeing they have to heat the same size building ,with fewer mass's and less donations/collections,....? Seems when we were all growing up in Verdun that every Church regardless of denomination, were all quite busy ,with many priests putting on many services,....How many priests would be working in say Saint Willibrord's Parrish these days? ........
remember these old Caleche's .... We saw them so often that ,we take them for granted , but they are neat looking (unless your driving behind one).........hahaha
Any of you been in this restaurant in Verdun ? I wonder how many restaurants are in Verdun now? Seems like as some company's have left ,many more Eatery's have opened up:I guess we ate out more often in Montreal........................
Well this Place is pretty obvious....................hahahah Since most of the answer is in both this question,..as well as the Picture: Where is the Place yopu wonder,..............Well See if you can Guess ? Sorry about the size of the picture Guy,..........but it is a big 'Place'........hahah
What did you do Arbutus ? hahahahah Did you right click on the photo in anycase your right Hotel Place D'Armes............ Good Detective work ,.......but you had professional training,(& obviously Common Sense).........hahahahahah Good Work Gary
You caught me the old right click!!!!!!!!
Les, Have you stopped to think that those buildings are a century old and show no signs of cracking or decay. Yet, today they build an overpass that last a few years before collapsing. My question is, If they could make cement like that then, why not now? Ed
Ed , I couldn't agree more,....I suspect when things like over pass's collapse without much warning (an hour or so for Papineau) ,,,,,and when a structure like the Big O-we,........drops a quarter section out of it ,after only 30 years or so,....the answer is ,....the builders were onthe Take,......and built crap,.....I cannot recall a building collapsing while I was growing up in Montreal, my guess is that while there are some really honourable & trustworthy journeyman still around today,.....there seem to be far more shysters....
Montreal in the late 50"s ...................Now I would think JMH knows exactly what kind of tram this is,.....and maybe even whose driving it.........hahahahah ......................Hi JMH,....................where are you these days,......
Sorry JMH I meant to ad this webaddress for you ,as i know you Appreciate some of these type of sites,....some of the photos are very familair to me ,.but the site seems to originate out of Manitoba,......you may find it interesting, http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/alltime/pics/ I know we have a few tram/bus afficianados,so it may be of interest to others to,......might even promt or spark a memory for someone of days gone by when they use to ride these old beasts................Hope so
Montreal Winter Carnival Remember the Verdun Winter Carnival at the Auditorium ,,,,,,the Aud would be packed for this event every Winter,...Remember they used have a button to wear stating Verdun Carnival & whatever year it was,........ Do they still Have the Verdun Winter Carnival..???????
The only other place I have seen those Caleches is in St. Augustine Fl. I was trying to tactfully say with no snow at this time of year, but there is no other way, hope I'm forgiven Ruth
Ruth...You are forgiven!!! The other city that has the Caleches is Quebec City. Dianne
S.A.
RuthArmstrong & HappyDi,.............their is another city ,that has Caleche Rides around the city,......... That would be right here in Victoria BC,.................generally the one you can see in this picture is one of many ,that you can find lined up along that side of the street,..waiting to take tourists on a ride : Here's the homepage for the Tally Ho Carriage Tours http://www.tallyhotours.com/index.htm
After reviewing the prices nowadays on their website,....I can see they have been literally taking tourists for a ride, for over a 100 years........... hahahahaha
This pic surfaced (so to speak) hahaha,....when there was talk about Montreal installing a new streetcar line,
Meant to ad this photo as well....................... Those have been buried for a long time,................
Hi JMH good to hear from you,...and Yes of course I recognise that area......hahaha it surprising how narrow Wellington St really is,... I haven't used YouTube for a little while, but they have some great 'bus trips' available through there,...I posted a number of those a while back,...Thanks for reminding me of the resource again,,,,,,,, Was this your dilm contribution to YouTube,...or a random video ? in any case it is neat to revisit Verdun, without even leaving my desk....................
JM
I will make a point of watching those other videos of yours,.....as I was actually babtized in NDG .............. as for the bell's in the background ,.........I thought since the video is at that end of Wellington St & Lasalle,.......I thought the bell I was hearing was perhaps the 'ghost' of the old La (Belle)BBQ,..............hahahahahah
La Belle BBQ ! Goooood one Les ! Thank you for your best wishes ! The same to you and your family for Christmas and the New Year ! JM

I would guess that most of us have had a feed here at the BarBBarn,.... afterall it's was owned by a Verdun(ite),(er)............. and don't forget the celebs that used to frequent this palce as well....... ..........and it only counts if it's the Downtown spot ,.......that's the real one the West Island location is OK,.......but it's not Downtown ..................I had to ad this shot of the Bay, all dolled up for Christmas: Day or Night .........Montreal's Alright...........................hahahahhaa
Now I have to beleive that each & everyone of you have been here at least a few times in your lives.......................... or hoow about Skating here ,till your feet were freezing, and you headed back to the Chalet to have a HotChocolate.........................Was it my imagination,or was this Beaver Lake Shack/Chalet always Freezing inside? ..........Always neat to revisit these palces isn't it? ........Montreal .................we had it all................................
Union-St Catherine --- A different time - crowds are celebrating Victory in Europe Note: Morgan's nowThe Bay
Gary (Arbutus) .............that's a fantastic photo,...........B&W pics always seem to depict time really well..........Good Shot.
Les and GAry, Great shots of downtown Montreal and Beaver Lake. Brings back memories. Dolly
Remember when walking from Beaver Lake up to the Chalet Lookout,.....along the way,you would every so often, have to sidestep some horsecrap ..............hahahahaha Here's the culprit.....Remember these horse drawn sleighs on the Mountain ........it was almost a 'gimme' that when you went to Beaver Lake & skated for a while,.you would inevitably combine that trip ,with a walk up to the Chalet & the Cross,.....then down those long stairs,..where you could catch the #58,and head back to Verdun................(oh yea ,you had to have a Hot Chocolate at the Chalet too).............always an adventure........
Dolly
" the scent of winter" I do Remember that,..walking outside on certain days ,before the real start of Winter,....and there was a certain smell,..that just smelled like winter: Funny every so often scents from childhood will pop up,....these are the natural observations we made as kids,.....and they stay with us for a lifetime,......That is neat,....they do say the the power of smell is very important and prompts memory,...........I guess they were right,..... Those blankets in the Caleche ,were always very heavy material,......Do you suppose they were actually 'horse blankets'............hahahaha & maybe the horse was trying to shake them out of the carriage on evry turn??? hahahah
Les, I remember them as fur skin blankets. I think it made an impression on me because I had never seen anything so thick. Maybe it was bear but somehow I remember the colour grey. Fur rugs were big at the time --- the seventies... Dolly
Yes even the ones they use here in Victoria are very heavy,.although winter's aren't usually too severe here,.....some of the nightair by the Ocean,.can be cold & damp......but hwat the blamkets are made of ,I really don't know: I will have a look one day ,when i'm down that way:
Who are the night people? In Montreal, CBC reporter Raoul Engel finds they're a varied bunch: hustlers, bums, leather-jacketed desperados, nightclub-goers, sailors, tourists, tabloid reporters, show people — and strippers. In this segment from the CBC Radio program Cross Section, Engel talks to "Bubbles," who's tired of her night job. Later, a taxi driver tells Engel about the fares who want to find a "blind pig." A little of Montreal from 1959 via the CBC archives........ Here's the direct link to the site ,so you can click to play the interview; http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-111-1288-7353/1950s/1959/clip4 Thriving & Driving Montreal.,,.......................always alive: ..........Now checkout this guy,....here's his cvomment on his new radio show at the time: It's the CBC's first radio show specifically for men, by men. Yikes............think this would get a rise today...............hahahahahaha ......this guy on the show ,was also the puppeteer on the friendly giant show........ hhmm: seems to be two sides to this guy,..I wonder if that could happen anywhere else.............hahahahahha http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-111-1288-7352/1950s/1959/clip3 ..........................very appropriate title on the screen"from the Archives"
Somewhere in the East End,.........you can see the old Refinery Storage Tanks it's a neat old picture ,.but I cannot pinpoint the exact location,..... anyone out there have an idea ?? Here's a little easier one" ..........Montreal always growing...................................................................
Crime in Montreal: I can Remember having a skateboard, and they were banned by the city, early 60's........ a band of hardened criminals,.........skating with reckless care & abandon hahahahahah Check out the cop has a weapon dangerous to the public, sticking out the window of the cop car,......(63 chevy) These two pictures are from a National Film Board movie called the, Devil's Toy........................... The Devil's Toy was made 1966, a time when skateboarding was considered by the general public to be a corrupting influence on it's youth.
Recognize this street,.....the shot is from 1966 How about Decarie.......................................I like this old picture April 1966
Ok these aren't technically buildings around Verdun/Montreal,but I bet you Remember these : Remember those slabs of maple fudge.....................mmmmmmmm How did us kids ever end up with any teeth........hahahahah How much sugar was in these babies,..........also I used to like those , Sugar Pies................... 10cents made by Vachon ??? Thiis maple stuff above was from a place called Dionne's
I remember taking the streetcar up there and sking all day. then ending up at snakes bend where the streetcars turned, I often wondered if anyone went off the end of the trail and ended up on the tracks Bob

Wish they'd make up their minds, in post #473 the police had skateboards as the cause of the youth of the day: but in this old Montreal Paper the "Ici Montreal" sort of a 'Midnight ' clone I guess,.or a forerunner to 'Allo Police' (always had great front page crime photo's making one wonder if the photographer was also the purpatrator.............hahahahah Seems 'Goofballs' were corrupting the youth here.............hahahah I always Remember my oldman referring to the teens of those days ,as being all 'hopped up on Goofballs'...................hahahahahah
Not only were the Westmount crowd more wealthy (if you had $5 bucks you were more wealthy than us)........hahahaha ,,,,,,,,,but it seems they were getting more action too !!! Since it was a Marathon,..how come we didn't have a team from Verdun 'entered' 9so to speak) hahahahaha and Notice another name for this paper, the Jour/Nuit Motreal newstands certainly had an array of papers, nothing like being 'wellread'........................hahahahahah
Just a picture that is a different angle of Morgan's similar to the era of the one that Gary (Arbutus) posted a few days back,.........B&W stuff still looks good ................This image has been posted before a few times but I thought I'd slip it back in their again: ........ Montreal
JMH & Guy5479 ,.....may recognize this spot,.... I know JMH went to this school,..... the photo is 1951,......perhaps some of you will see some old friends in this picture: What was this Richelieu Club ? was it the school,.or is this a Neighbourhood Help Group,.........I Remember Richelieu Grocery Stores,(later Metro),..........but I am not certain about this one: Well based on the Richelieu sign in the background for tBread,.then I guess it is related to the Richelieu Grocery Chain afterall,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Anyon else know ,......is this perhaps something like a Knights of Colombus, or other similar organizations.........?? Ahh OK now I'm finding more stuff on this group: Does anyone Remember where this place was situated,...I have to say it looks somewhat familiar,........but I think that's maybe just the Power of Persuasion/Suggestion
Have a look ,at the guy in the front row,..on the left : I think that is Maurice Richard isn't it?------ and the guy on the far right looks very familiar as well ,is it Pronovost ??? I used to know all the Habs no problem ,but that was along time ago,.......... Either way typical of the class of the Habs at the time,.coming to a local Verdun School .....and it certainly wasn't during the hockey season,.based on the baseball gloves the kids are wearing......... Hey..................the guy in middle behind the kids id Jean Believeau,..... now this is a neat picture,..........I'm discovering stuff in the photo as I type this message............hahahahaha
Just noticed in that previous photo,...that the guy on the top right ,..looks like Doug Harvey.................... Edbro ,...or Kungfu(Jimmy) you guys would recognize these characters don't you? I posted it again to make it easier to search the photo of all the faces, without having to jump back to the other post:
Have a look on the face of this little kid,.....she does not look too happy or enthused,...........but have a look at her bike,....seems a wheel has slipped off: Remember that happening a few times, and you had to find a cotter pin to keep that wheel back on there..........hahahaha Look at how simply built this old bike is................. Some Verdun kids ,......that could have been any one of us here I wonder where they are now.......................
Les, I see Jean Beliveau between Richard and Pronovost. I don't think that's Doug Harvey in the back row. I browsed some other pages in the album and saw that individual in some other photos.
Lower left is Maurice "the Rocket" Richard and lower right is Marcel Pronovost
Thanks Gary,.that is sort of what I garnered out of the site as well,. Yes in those days getting Cardinal Leger to appear would have been considered quite a coup............. interesting website Indeed http://www.richelieuverdun.org/photos.html visit the site ,.....and check out there photo albums ,some neat Verdun stuff
Les .....
That picture of the RICHELIEU and Realestate office sure looks like VERDUN ave near Argyle......across from the old Leonard's grocery store .....if that is the place then the Realestate office became EGAN Realties......
I don't have much more time to elaborate.
joey
I would imagine a quick check with Lovell's for that year,....and look up Legault & Gagnier ,general insurance company,.. Po-8-4719 might pinpoint it (or would pinpoint it actually),..... I will check into that later,.....but I too, have to head out right now,.... Btw: the year of that photo is posted on the site as well...... ......................................Have Fun Everyone & Remember Verdun, (now I'm off to get a haircut) (maybe get them all cut)..................C-YA

Guy

Hello Guy,.....I have a few Montreal Canadiens Books,..I will see if I can recognize or put a name to the face,.....the only problem is usually these books have mostly team pics ,in uniform, and it might not be that easy to make out who it is,.....But all of them sure look young-ish,especially le gross bill..............................
the PVM,.....with the top floors ,not yet complete: .............Montreal would have rivalled any city for tall buildings, except the powers that be of the day, passed a law that no building would be higher than Mt Royal........or as you can imagine the Mountain would have become a mole-hill..................................................
I think that is a good idea. they look really nice. dianne
A cold looking day down at the harbour,................Look in the background, almost top dead center,...and you can see the Farine Five Rose Flour sign, It still gives the impression of being a fairly busy Port,....... but nowhere like it was all those years ago,...............................I like the look of this picture,it sort of like being there, but not being Cold...........hahahahahah
This picture is from Jimmy (Kungfu's ) Neck of the Woods ,.guess I should have put it in the 'Neck of the Woods' thread: .......Certainly isn't Wintertime.................................................
SecondAve : Bill ,here's another shot showing pretty much the bridge that ,that other picture was taken from (the winter shot of Bonsecour ,that you asked about) it gives a better idea of where it is,.......(although it's not a Winter shot):...........you'll have to imagine the ice:
Remember Mansfield St : Looks like a day ,to be walking in the Underground part of the City Chilly.............................................................
Might as well throw in McGill College ,while I'm at it,............we've all walked around there at some point.................................... Funny how we almost pride ourselves,on having lived through & survived thos Cold Montreal Winters,...........you know the ones ,where we had to walk barefoot in the snow,.it was never above -25 F,.........and we walked 10 miles or so to school,...Uphill Both Ways,.........(and came home for Lunch) hahahahahahah Remember those Winters????? ..........Nowadays we drive the kids to school incase it's too sunny .
I think it is cerrtainly a very recognizable piece of the Montreal Skyline...........(some don't agree) ...... I always liked this shot,.................................
Les My mother got me a job when I came out of high school. On De La Commune Common...down by the water and old Mtl. Used take my breaks and see that sign all the time. B rings back alot of memories... Lad
Les Hate to be a pain...any more info on the article? Lad
Yes That's why i like posting pictures regardless of whose in them ,.because we can all relate to those Verdun situations,............seems our backgrounds & experiences of growing up in Verdun/Montreal,.....were very much the same,.. and it also seems to transend age,.as we have members here on this Verdun site from all age groups,.living all over the place,.....& we all can relate: So I like to encourage everyone out there to dig out those photographs from that shoebox in the back of the closet,.or basement ,...and let's have a look at them,...Everythng is neat to see after this many years,...........Those kids in the lane picture,.as Guy said were family pics of a fellow he knows from the SHGV.....(that's code for what we called the 'New Library' on Bannatyne hahahahahah How's that for dating myself,........I Remember getting my 'first' library card for the Libraruy in the City Hall on VerdunAv, hahahahahahaha
Hi Les That picture of Richelieu I first thought that it was 5th and Verdun...but now maybe could be Argyle and Verdun Ave. Lad
Sorry the lad: Which picture (or post) was that one,...........I can't recall off hand ,.........................
Les The one where u can see the sign and the phone number. Office is downstairs. Says Richelieu I think on the sign...
Lad
Wow you are doing your homework,.I had to go back and check out the bus stop,...........and Remember which pharmacy you were talking about,.. I've posted a few pics,.and I usually Remember things (roughly) ,.but I'd forgotten that one,.Thanks for the prompt......................Digging up those old streetcar tracks,.amazing they 've been buried for all these years,.they must be getting a few bucks for them as scrap iron................
Check out this quick shot of a street we all know well, film taken by & posted originally by one of our members JMH http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrN3Rlr8j8s&mode=related&search= .....Listen to the familiar sound of a Bus whipping down Wellington, ,,,,,,,,,,,,and Listen to those Church Bells in the background for a Quick revisit of Verdun Thanks Again JMH
Montreal sure is a real melting pot, and it's a real ethnically diverse city ..........................It was always an interesting City................. from Bagels to Bombs ,.....Montreal has seen it all..........
