Hey Tina Very well put as always . I would like to hear from Sharon on this subject . P.S. Tina here's a doz. roses for your table. Steve
You'd like to hear from me on the subject, would ya? Well....see, I'm the short and sweet type (figuratively AND literally haha) and not very discreet at the best of times, sometimes.. My very first thought was "If you don't LIKE it, then don't READ it - don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!"...seems simple enough to me. And sorry, but to say that a lot of topics just don't interest someone makes me wonder why that someone would stick around then, you know? Saying that kinda makes ME feel like I am uninteresting and boring and have nothing to say of interest. But thinking again, it is just one person in the whole scheme of things, and not even a Verdunite at that, so maybe he just doesn't "get it"...the whole Verdunite camaraderie... For that alone, I will forgive him. I won't change anything here in the group haha but I guess I can forgive him. This time.
"Have Fun & Remember Verdun" This is a great signature from Les, and this is what Verdun Conections does to me. When I first read Dave's line "Folks, I don't know if anyone else on this list agrees with me, but, frankly, I would find this list easier to navigate if people started posting items with specific subject lines, instead of endlessly using either Remembering Verdun or Verdun Yesteryears" , I was furious. The word "endlessly" does not having anything to do with this group. No, I am wrong. I am endlessly smiling when reading posts and looking at pictures. I apologize for part of my earlier message when I said that some messages have no interest because I do not know the people involved. This is not true. Some messages are less interesting to me than others, as I am certain that some of my messages ex; trains, are not interesting to everybody. If a person has a "one track mind" (pun intended), there are sites to cater to that particular interest. Back to Dave's question, it would seem that no one else agrees with him. Dave; How about a rebutall?
Hi Everyone, What Dave Pinto suggested only makes sense - isn't that what subject headings are for? Maybe a lot of folks just took his suggestions the wrong way, possible because he made it the wrong way? If people want to use subject headings, then great - it makes it much easier to find something in the "archives". If not, then don't. But is seems like a useful tool to use. For example, it would be much easier to go back and research the "Great Capri-Magnan's Debate" if it were under an appropriate heading (I didn't check, so maybe it is!). In any case, it seems that the number of subjects is growing, so maybe that speaks for itself. For what it is worth, BrownBlvd

Hey Sharon!
You forgot something on your post, "HAVE FUN and REMEMBER VERDUN"
Have Fun & Remember Verdun
Keep Young Tiny Tina
I have been thinking about the "other fellow Verdunite" that needed our prayers. I have been keeping him and his family in my prayers as well. I know that God knows his name but I can't find the original message. Can someone please let me know his condition and/or his name?
Hi Mags, the other person was Larry Murray & family. I'm waiting to hear how things are going for them. His brother Ronald and his wife are down giving him a hand and will call me upon their return to Toronto and fill me in on how things are.I'll let you know when I hear something. Your prayers a greatly appreciated. Danny
Hi BrownBlvd! I'm new to 'Connections' ... We lived at 1321 Brown and I spent a lot of time at the rink in the good old days. Now I'm in Ontario and we have to skate at arenas. Just curious -- what address on Brown? Barbara
Hi Barb, I used to live at 1252 Brown (my mother is still there - I think that makes it about 55 years that she has lived there). Sure, I remember going to the rinks on Brown: doing trains, and whips. Most of my time spent at rinks now, like you, is also indoors - watching my kids play hockey or ringette. Although there are still a number of outdoor rinks in Saskatoon (in schoolyards) that still get used quite a bit. Nice to hear from you. Ray (BrownBlvd).
An old working buddy, at the CN..lives at 1061 Brown Blvd..since 1966, Joe/Sandra Kilkenny,,visited them there in 1995..
many times from my home on valiquette i walked with my skates on to brown park. played minor hockey at that rink. wonderful memories

I remember also that my skates perhaps, maybe, got sharpened at the beginning of the winter and that was it! I can only imagine how not sharp they got by walking on the sidewalk/street with them. Now-a-days many of the arenas have skate sharpening kiosks right there. Lucky son-of-a-guns kids today.
About walking to the Brown rink with skates on: Not only did I walk there, but as a 5-6 year old, I used to try to walk on bare pavement so that I could make the skates spark. I quit doing that after I figured out that the reason I couldn't turn or stop very well was because I was friggin' ruining my edges, and the skates were supposed to stay sharp! My dad would bring the skates to the "taylor" on Manning street near Beurling for a sharpening once a year (if that). It was right beside Adams candy store right near the St. Thomas Moore schoolyard (boy's side). I think it cost 10 cents, or maybe a quarter at the most, in the 1960s. The going rate now is $4 in Saskatoon. BrownBlvd ps. I guess that this subject has very little to do with the subject line "Dave Pinto..."
Rainey Day Man 44. What year were you walking with your skates on from Valiquette to Brown Blvd rink. That was alittle bit of a hike and hard on the blades if you didn't have guards. Did they no longer have a "Shack" to change into your skates and warm up. "My days" were early to late 50's Ruth
Hi Ruth My mom used to make me skate-up at home as she was afraid of my boots being stolen from the warmup shack. This was in the 50's and I guess there wasn't enough money to buy more boots. I also had a sister and brother, so that might have meant 3 pairs of boots to buy. Cheers, Linda
ruth, it would have been the late 50's
Hi Barb, Glad to see " The Browners" coming on stream. My name is Keith Harrison and I used to live at 1211 Brown Blvd. in the late 50's to 1962. My brother was Brian Harrison (the older). Others I knew...Linda Ferguson, Donna King (blond I recall), Ronnie Bateman, Wayne Rice, Walter Boyd, Jimmy Haggarty, Barbara Greenshields (my first kiss with a girl under the front veranda). Great Street, terrific park for skating, walk to Riverview School, swim at the Nat., eat at Kosta's. Live north of Toronto now,, but get back to the hood every few years-not much has changed on Brown, but "The Shack" is gone, and there is a large building on the south side now, think its a library. Shating rinks have been replaced by Tenis courts., rgds
