Sign-in for September
Just checking who's on board and checking in for September.
I too have logged in for September. I don't remember if I logged in for July and I know I didn't log in for August on purpose, even though I read each and every message posted. No one missed me...... The low level banter continued which I don't participate in and I definaely enjoyed the articles on the History of Verdun. Now I return to my tiny space on the closet shelf, quietly observing that which surrounds me but doesn't transend into my day to day banal existance. Peek my interest..... please.
Hi Ernie, Lurkers are good.....reading each and every message keeps you up-to-date on what is and what is not happening, and if something peakes your interest feel free to add your 2 cents worth. Might even stir the crowd up a little. Cheers.
Ernie Loiselle, I used to live for a very few years on St Charles at Charlevoix and shopped at the Metro on Charlevoix. It was owned by a Mr. Loiselle - any relation?? After the birth of my son I went over to replenish the groceries and he told me to pick anything for the baby from the Goldstar Catalogue - I picked a very nice high chair - what a sweet heart he was. Can you imagine your local grocer giving you a high chair today??? I was just 20 at the time but will never forget his generosity.
Too my knowledge we were not directly linked to the Loiselle's who owned the Metro on Charlevoix street. The other Loiselle Family in the Point was the MLA for a number of year, my dad knew him but I don't think there was anything other than the same family name connection.
Still around after all those years Has anyone ever gone back home and driven through all the streets to reminisce? Amazing how all the old memories get stirred, return to haunt or enchant you! Remember "The Pav", Dawson's Boys Club dances, The Legion dances on Friday nites and "The Pres". The VHS football games and how the players used to train while running on Champlain boul past the Girls side of VCHS. I was one of the girls who jumped up and down from her desk to catch a glimpse through the classroom window... Reading Lady Chatterley's Lover on a wharf off the Boardwalk - the book belonged to Mom, I had kidnapped it and then most unfortunately dropped it in the water and had to figure out how to get it back home in good condition... Remember the parades of girls on Wellington street on Friday nites, just waiting for the right guy in the right car to ask them if they wanted to ride. The girls walked in twos or threes under the pretense of shopping, but no one had any money to do that. Then, "the moment" happened! The love of the moment would appear alongside in his yellow Chevrolet convertible and blond wavy hair, or his green Pontiac with the sterling fins and baby blues, and you were a goner when he asked or told you to "Get in". The lucky ones got to go the end of Champlain boul at the corner or LaSalle boul to "watch" the moon facing the river and eat a smoked meat or hot dog from the Drive-in restaurant. That restaurant is still there, by the way, but greatly renovated, with outdoor terrace and Gazebo - But Hey! they still do a great hot dog, hamburger or smoked meat with the required french fry and gravy or poutine. Remember Cherry Cokes after mass on Sundays with french fries and gravy at the local greasy spoon - or the Prince of Wales restaurant on Friday nites, corner 5th and Wellington, where all the gossip went on as to who danced with who and who was pregnant and shouldn't be... Larry Leonardo and Roddie Diamond - do these names ring a bell? Jimmy Guy and his Quartet, the three guys who were in the Black Watch strutting their kilts on Bannantyne and laughing at those who ridiculed them with nary a worry about being called queers. When I watch the movie "Grease" I am truly transported back to Verdun and thoroughly relate - drag races, shiny cars, greasy hair, fluffy sweaters, headbands with rhinestones...rock and roll, slow dancing, wallflowering.. And then we grew up and moved... Love you all for having been there,

Sorry - I think that the Metro owner and Gerard Loiselle were brothers. I seem to remember that his name was also Ernest.
