Heading to Verdun Oct. 6th
Signing in for Sept. Heading home in two weeks. Anyone recommend the best place to get a smoked meat sandwich?
Another place for terrific smoket meat is Abie's, on St. Jean Blvd., just north of 40. The owner worked at Schwartz's for years, and then opened his own place. It works great for anyone heading back to Ontario from Montreal, as you practically drive by. It is a block or so north of Chenoys, on the left hand side of the street. They also make their own steak spice, which is great. Anyone who loves Schwartz's will very much enjoy this place.
Sorry, should have included this with my previous message. Abie's has it's own website at www.abiesmokedmeat.com . They will ship anywhere in Canada, but new US laws prevent them from shipping into the US.
From what a Montreal Gazette poll says, PETE'S smoked meat sandwich was voted the best. It's just off highway 20 behind the Dairy Queen in Ile Perot. I've never tried it but lots of my friends rave about it. Steve
Hey Deanne If you're in Montreal on a Sunday night and don't mind staying up past midnight it would be my pleasure to invite you to our studio in Westmount to sit in on our radio show. Maybe I'll bring some smoked meat to the studio Give me a shout at brotherfromanothermother@hotmail.com Mike

That's great because actually I have to drive to Ottawa on the 11th on business, so if I miss out while I'm in Verdun, I can make a point of stopping there.
Recent newspaper article in Edmonton Journal advised that after the owner of Dunn's died, his sons who had no interest in running the business franchised the name & you therefore will find Dunn's Smoked Meat in many cities but not the same as the original, Some of the smoked meat is even made in Vancouver & shipped around western Canada. The Edmonton location in a hotel at Whitemud Dr., & Calgary Trail recently shut down. Another in a Hotel near the Calgary airport, McNight Blvd.,, I beleive is also shutdown. Have eaten at both in the past & have been disappointed.
Hi Deanne, I think you should try all the smoke meat places. Swartz's, The Main( Montreal Smoke Meat ) Pete's ( you can't beat Pete's meat ) Is the son of the owner of the Main Smoke Meat just about next door to Swartz's must be the same recipe as his father. I haven't tried Pete's but it must be just as great . If you have been away for a long time or a short time they will all be mouth watering and a true blessing to your taste buds. Have a good time. Ben's is not closed as far as I know - They are holding out despite all the high rises surrounding them - they are probably the only low building around in that area... L챔che-vitrine ou l챔che-챕cran ? Yahoo! Magasinage.
I am not sure when the article you refer to was written, but last March, I went to the Dunn's on Metcalf and was told that a grandson of the original owner had purchased it back and it was once again in the hands of the family. You are right that the sons didn't want anything to do with it and sold it. I also heard a rumble that Quebec Smoked Meat on Centre St near Shearer might be the supplier, but haven't been able to verify that.

There are still two Dunn's one up near Chabannel and one on Metcalfe - think the St Catherine location closed if I am not mistaken. 1249, rue Metcalfe,

Well, Ben's and Dunn's both had good smoked meat, but by far the absolute best, in my humble opinion, was Adams. Cheers, Linda
