Old Hockey pictures
I just posted two old hockey pictures in the Sports album. My dad is in both pictures and I'm trying to find out the names of the teams and the year. Hoping someone out there recognizes them. Maggie, thanks for your instructions on posting these.
Hello 'LittleOne 02981' Those are some Neat pictures. I will try to find out some names of teams from those eras ...............but I would suggest also asking 'Bim' Lidell our resident Sports Information guy as he seems to Know where to look & who to ask for Verdun area sporting stuff..................... Hey Bim are you reading this ........could you help ? We'll have to get one of those extremely powerful lights , ( that they use for Hollywood events') ...........and shine it up over Montreal with a picture of a Bat ( a Baseball Bat that is ) when we need to get a hold of 'Bim man' ...........hahahaha "holy Sports memorabilia Bim man"................Thanks for your help if you can
Hi there! My guess is that the pictures are from the 1920's or 1930's. My mother seems to think the one with the G on the front may have been Griffintown but wasn't sure. She also thought my dad may have played for the old Montreal Maroons, but I bought a Hockey Chronicle book that goes back to the Maroons days in existence and couldn't find his name there so she may be wrong on that issue.
hiya deanna, ok i will need a lil bit but i will get back to u on those pictures.great stuff if you or your family has more please post them. back atcha asap miles bim liddell
hi, the G on the sweaters,GRIFFINTOWN,was a good guess, from my source on old hockey, griffintown folk played for pt st charles hockey.even prior to leos boys the sports emblem back then was the SHAMROCK.we also thought that the "G' might b from the "GRADS" sport association, but cant find anything on the grads in the 20's and 30's.there is the word 'VERDUN' on the bottom of one of the pictures.this could very well indicate that the actually picture was taken in verdun.these jerseys also have a name on the front but were unable to make it out.maybe if u have the original u can see it more clearly.please let us know.pre 1940's sport memorabilia is very hard to come by and history references are limited.we keep looking and keep u posted. BIM
I checked the original picture and it's hard to read what I assume is the first letter, but it's either Caigle or Daigle & Paul. Do either of those names mean anything to you?
Hi just throwing in my own theory here. Could the G on the sweaters stand for a company name beginning with a G..... The reason why I mention this is, I came across a web page re: St. Henri and there was a hockey picture that read PMC from 1917 and its stood for Parkhill Manufacturing Company. I've put the pic in the photo section. This might be a lead - not sure. If anyone knows of co. names beginning with a G back then. I hope this helps. I've looked on hockey sites and have come up empty. Take care, Kelly p.s. keep us posted.
