I'm here too Maggie. I have the old hockey pictures in JPEG format now. Couldn't find the one with the V on the uniforms but found another one. I'll contact you tomorrow or Thursday for instructions on posting them.
After reading all these messages I guess it is time to sign in. I am originally from Verdun and attended Verdun High and just got 14 messages in my Hotmail. Might add that none of you are familiar to me. Sherill

I was here but then I left and came back later and now I'm not sure where I'm at.... must be 'oldtimers But then that's the story of my life, just when I think I know where I'm at I discover I'm lost. Ernie
Hi Sherill, try setting your membership settings to "check messages online" instead of daily digest or individual messages. Some days this site can rack up a high number of messages and they may flood your inbox! Welcome to the site By the way, What decades did you grow up in?
Hi Maggie I grew up in Verdun, first on Godin Ave across from Riverview School then when 5 moved to Bannantyne across from Wilson Park, now sporting a library. Lived there until 1966. Have great memories of Verdun and have school friends nearby which is a plus. I am living in London, Ont. now and have for the past 25 years. I do recognize a couple of names on the messages but not too many. I sent the Verdun Connections site to a few friends who may join. Another school friend who still lives in Verdun sent me some info on the reunion held in May and I went a little further and found this site. Good to hear from you. Sherill

When we were small my brother who was 22 months younger started talking, he couldn't pronounce my name so called me YaYa. It has stuck like glue ever since. Made the mistake of repeating YaYa to my grandson and now he calls me by that name and also my great nieces. Makes a great come back when I don't want to listen to something ie: ya ya, whatever.

Hi Ernie-You sound like I feel! I'm new here...graduated 1971...left a message or two but no one answered...check Montreal-A Place t o Go...perhaps more of our age group (also from Verdun High) get back please!
I lived on Argyle, then Manning-I'd love to see some real names here...checked out the member site but still no REAL names...I'm Cathy Wilkins...my sister is Carolyn...anyone know/knew us?
Hi Cathy I'm Sharon Edwards (now Starr) I went to Verdun High School and graduated in 1976, so being younger than you I don't believe I know you. You said you graduated in '71 is that right? I lived in Verdun all of my 44 years up until last June when I moved to Virginia to marry my American man. My Mom moved so much when I was growing up that I think I've lived on every Avenue (1st to 6th) but I mostly hung around the corner of Willibrord and Lasalle Blvd where my grandparents lived. What schools did you go to and where did you hang around? By the way Cathy, have you checked the link for "member info" on the group's homepage? There are many REAL names there! Take care Luv, Sharon
Hi Cathy, welcome to Verdun Connections! You might find some familiar names in the "member info" on the left hand side here. You can sort the list by any of the categories by clicking on the title. Members have to fill in their own information there (please do) and then can leave their contact information at "Contact List" This hopefully makes it harder for spammers to get us.
I can just imagine what it will be like here if they win on Saturday! Last night after the win you couldnt even hear your TV for all the horns honking outside LOL They estimated between 50,000 and 60,000 downtown on the "Red Mile" (17th Avenue downtown). The food bank here has been "winning" in all this also. For this series on the first two away games you were able to go to the Saddledome to watch the game on jumbo screens and the cost of admission was a donation to the food bank. For last nights game the admission was $5.00 with all proceeds going to the food bank. They had to turn away people after the second away game so that is why they changed it to purchasing a ticket in advance. GO FLAMES GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Connie (Coleman)
To Papa3times Guess I deleted instead of sending. My brother could not pronounce my name when he started talking so called me YaYa. Has stuck ever since. Even taught my grandson to call me YaYa and now my great nieces don't know I have another name. What have I done? I am always amazed at how many women are called YaYa, always hear some child call the name out in the Mall, thinking it is Brandon and go to respond and don't recognize the person. It is also a good comeback when I get annoyed and respond with 'ya ya, whatever'. Use it a lot.

YaYa I worked with a greek girl who had a little girl - part of the week she would stay with her maternal grandmother YAYA and the rest of the week with paternal granny YAYAW I asked her one day how come you say let me speak to YAYA sometimes and at others you say put YAYAW on the phone - and she told me YAYA is my mother YAYAW is his and when she said YAYAW it almosts sounded like YEYAW. So many of those YAYA's in the mall are probably greek grannies.
Hi Yaya, my grand daughter started calling my wife Yaya when she was about 3 years old. We have no idea where it came from as we are not Greek either, in fact my daughter-in-law is Portuguese and grandmother is Vovo not Yaya. Now all 3 grandchildren call my wife Yaya so I guess that is her name. Strange how some things come and go and some really stick.

Hi kiniki 1; I have been visiting Cornwall regularly for a few months as my wife has been working there quite a bit. Cornwall is a very nice town. I always stay at the Best Western, an excellent motel, with a super restaurant. I was there Sunday night, the fireplace was burning, and it was very comforting. I hated to have to head back to reality, but at the saying goes, I Owe, I Owe, it's off to work I go..........mpu.
