John Bull Pub

I remember when the pub first opened. I was with the naval reserve at the time playing in the band. Years later as a member of the band Shilo I played the John Bull.
It was the first rock and roll band to play there after Ravi kumar and the Dixiecats

we use to pack the place and I can remeber the lines going all the way round the corner up Drummond.

Many a good times was had there.

If anyone has memories of the place let us know

Roy

I used to go to the John Bull Pub every Sat. night with a friend.
We had a great time talking to friends, drinking and dancing.
Good times! I miss that place.

I used to go to the John Bull pub almost every night 1968 till mid 70's. It was on De Maisonneuve opposite Drummond Court where I had an apartment. The barman was a German guy named Karl. The bar helper was Eddie Beckendorf. I also used to frequent the Heidelberg just opposite. Bargirls were Rita a Hungarian, Ingrid - German, Mary. The bouncer was a German guy called Jürgen Kling. Great times. It's all gone now.

From 1974 to 1976 (I think those are the years) I went to the John Bull Pub almost every Friday, Saturday, sometimes on Thursdays, Wednesdays, Sundays lol. There would be long lines but my girlfriend and I went there so often, we could just walk in. I have lots of wonderful memories and even met my (ex) husband there. Ann Marie

Went to school a few floors above at the computer school. It was our after school hang out in 79,80. Beer was cheap then

John Bull.. this was the place kinda under a bridge? Wife and I were talking about old watering holes downtown and one of the first that came to mind was that little dive under a bridge, I wanted to say JBP - was that right? No idea when it closed, my time would have been about 87-90 for cheap pitchers and no ID ;)
The city sure changed a lot since then, and of course the older I get, the less I like that haha

Reminiscing . Above the pub was my collage.
Not the girl one, but the computer school. 1979 and 80.. it was our after class, before class and sometimes missed class(if the before got carried away). To many remembered and forgotten memories to list. Sure was fun though

I'm a former Montreal musician, now Ottawa-based, and was recalling places I used to play in my hometown before I left in '84. Just now I thought of the John Bull Pub, Googled it and came across this post from 2004 but with recent comments only a few days ago!

This pub was my first regular weekly gig. In 1979 we played five nights per week for a few months, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of our band! We were West Island guys, initially somewhat intimidated by the downtown scene but we had fun in the end. It was so cool to come out of the gig around 3am and find St. Catherine St. full of people like it was 10pm.

My older brother Jon, mainly a bassist, also had a house gig at the JBP two years earlier, with guys like Howard Foreman on guitar, and Al Cross and later Gordy Adamson on drums.

Hi Mark thanks for popping in, you described Montreal perfectly coming out of a bar / club etc in Montreal and the streets had people all over. Also usually we all had a spot that was open for late-night eats (and if you knew them, you could still get more beer).......lol It was a fun city for sure. Maybe someone will surf by and read this and remember your bands name.
Cheers !
