Verdun newspapers

Is there a paper publish in Verdun about Verdun? Seems to me there used
to be one.
Also, when I lived in Verdun the mayor had a flat on Woodland Avenue
(?) I think. The entrance had two lampposts on either side. Maybe I'm
posting too much already. I'll slow down some.

Hi SecondAve,    The mayor house with the two post is on Champlain Blvd.  just west of Woodland and it has the Aquaduct as its backyard. It still has the two post outside the entrance although it is not used by the mayor anymore. Do you remember when George Orielly was mayor in verdun? And yes there is the Verdun Messanger as a local Paper.

Yep..Mayor Wilson,,he walked to work every day,,along the boardwalk, he was my grandfather's seargent major in the 1st world war,,james catto  ,the mayor had gramps start up the victory gardens, in and through out greater Verdun, i used to tag along , he set up gardens for the vets, along the acquaduck, the verdun protestant hospital, and later on down on may ave, then the D.I.L. grounds,, the newspaper was the verdun Guardian, later on the gardens were taken over by the italians and the poles,, gramps once told me that the poles were the best gardeners .

Your right Bill. He did have a home on Woodland. I was only a kid, as you were, but I remember him being a very nice man. That was great info someone sent about him being a Sgt Major in the service. That was something I did not know, and appreciate someone sharing that.

Yes Maggie:   Le Verdun Messager (no "n") is still being published and it's pretty tough to find an English article in there now....whoever does the translations needs to learn how to do it right.  Bob Dubois does a little column about the schools in Verdun.  He went to VCHS back in my day.

The paper was called The Verdun Messager. I left Verdun in 97 and it was still delivered on Weds. They used to put Street Lights outside the Mayors house. I think that you are thinking of Mayor Savard's house which was on Champlain Blvd.near Woodland.     Eddie Muir

The Verdun Guardian was the English speaking newspaper in Verdun when I lived there. (I left in 1954)
The Messenger was a bilingual newspaper at that time.
