THE NICKEL

back then verdun times a young verduner getting a nickel from his mom, dad
uncle was a treat, you go over to the corner store and look at the front counter
lots of candies, 2 for 1 cent lets see what can remember, j jubes, green leafs
black babies, little bags of chips for 2 cents, after the store owner gets fed up with your time picking which candy you wanted, it was handed to you in a little brown paper bag, yes 5 cents was a lot of paying power.
today a nickel can't buy a slice of bread, also soon the nickel will be made of steel
not to forget the penny this year is the last year in canada for making a the copper
penny, the usa will make there penny out of steel also.
ther cost of mining for nickel and copper is very expensive also the metal
copper and steel.

verdun was a great place to live, most everyone was poor, this way we all got along. owning a family car was a big deal back then, most of us didn't have that family car, the weekend trip, going to the country place, i remember myself and a buddy went on a uncle harry school bus ride to a picnic, it was like taking a grand adventure to the unknown. looking at farms, cows, fields of crops we had the boardwalk as our playground, the parks, the river for fishimg all fun stuff to do just a walk away, look at today people leaving for the weekend everybody has a car, you are in traffic jams for hours both ways there and back the torture to get to your get away cottage??? looks that we little verduners had a better weekend of fun, then sit in the family car today listening to our parents fighthing to get rid of the cottage!!! the traffic, the up keep of the place, the taxes, the cost of gas to get there the hours of lost time on the road. yes we were better off back then and we didn't now, verdun was the place for a great time. even the balconey was a great place to sit and chit chat, you didn't need to drive miles for cigs, a case of beer, every corner in verdun had a beer store and they would deliver asp. why sit beside a camp fire and get eaten alive with black flies, all that wood smoke smelling up your lee jeans you bought from grovers on payday. til this day verdun is the place to live a hidden treasure in montreal, don't forget downtown montreal is a metro, bus ride, even take your bike and use the bikepaths living in verdun you don't need a car if you work downtown montreal who would think 30 years ago that verdun will become a future hot spot to live they have lists of buyers waiting to get a property in verdun today all because of location, location, the river, the parks, wellington st, yes be proud you are a verduner

well, lets get back to the nickel, real money back then, coins made of nickel silver dimes, quarters, silver dollars, today a silver dollar before 1967 is worth over 16 dollars in silver metal. soon you could lite up a cigarette or cigar with a hundred dollar bill and not even finch. yes paper money today, it took 40 years to have the mess we are in today why the cost of gas??? with the internet you will find answers, the american dollar is tanking today 126.14 a barrel. the investors need to rise the barrel price to make up on the tanking american dollar. iran isn't helping either, did you know that iran opened there own stock exchange for oil, they only take euro and yes the chinese yen, no american petro dollars!!!! a year ago you only used american paper money for oil, iran is the 4th largest oil supplier in the world. different story now with oil, the risks are more and more for transporting oil today overseas because of terroists attacking the oil. we are blessed that we can fill our tank with gas, what happens when the gas stations runs out of gas at the pump!!! people have to think more, not just complain thinking we are getting ripped off??? if it wasn't for tha american investors taking the risk in the alberta oil sands most that next door america wants the oil, alberta can't transport over to eastern canada it would cost a fortune, maybe not now?? people just don't know how much wealth, employment, yes jobs, jobs, jobs these oil investors give us. years back when i was in calgary there were 2 buildings the sheraton hotel and back then   the calgary tower they called it the penis of he prairies you would see only the tower driving miles and miles away entering calgary. the only 2 tallest buildings back then. look today a massive modern city and still growing, all because of the oil investor giving you that job and lifestyle. with out them, you maybe get a job a walmart or better a walmart greeter at the front door. as long as you have your health, work that second job if needed and be blessed that we live in the best country in the world. we need to educate ourselves and our children about the real nickel not just complain about others that have it better, nobody stops you have having a better life in this country but yourself. for those few interested, and thank you for the few that e-mailed me to continue on the world market news. remember invest in metals, the real stuff

big money flowing into africa from china, china behind the bushes secretly for a few years now are in africa, beef in africa and crops. china also has huge investments in alberta oil sands, large owners of land arounf fort macmurry. even verdun has a major asian population moving in investing into verdun building a better place to live. just 10 years ago, who would beleive that china will become a world power of manufacturing. india is the major player today, did you know india invented chess, best they invented mathematics. over 38% of doctors in usa are from india, they are a educated business minded country today as always. india will become the world power of business, even bill gates is hiring from india, bill gates knows they are much cheaper on the payroll.  china and india are lovers of gold, secretly they are buying tons of gold while the central banks are dumping tons and tons of gold to control the price of gold to keep the american dollar strong. they dumped 400 tons of gold last week gold dropped to 860 then friday closed 901?? tonite the asian markets will open and may hit the 950+ soon they will run out, did you know that canada sold all its gold years ago canada has hardly any gold left, wonder who phurchased the gold??? england did the same, today france and england are almost bankrupt

how inflation eats your paycheck groceries   monthy cost today = 672.50 cost us in 2007 = 469.70 difference 202.80  a increase of 43% since last year the american lost close to 38 cents on the dollar!!! evryone that has savings, investments, pension plans has lost in 2007 unless you kept in gic's at 3% and yes they were the smart ones. the smarter ones that study and understand why oil is going up, why are tim horton employees get there 20 dollars a hour?? there would be so much unemployment with out these oil investors, our canadian dollar isn't tanking because of these oil investors. in the 90's when these oil investors lost everything when oil went to 20 dollars a barrel nobody said i feel sorry for them, look at alberta fell on its knees, the main reason oil is going up is that the american petro dollar is tanking the blame is the tanking of the american dollar, china is rite now keeping the american dollar strong because they have close to 10 trillion american dollars in the bank. china is very scared of losing there stash of savings, they are playing the metal markets very well, buying up slowing and most keeping the gold price down to save the american dollar. gold should be at 2600 a ounce, but its only at 907 today, in time it will hit the bench mark at 2600. thats when oil will be at 10 dollars a gallon. the real reason is we are in a depression yet credit cards are keeping up going a question of time. then the big crash, the american wil get its value back, oil will be 40 dollars a barrel then alberta becomes a ghost town for its costs aprox 40 dollars a barrel of oil thats the high cost of getting it out of the sands. learning how to use the internet a person can become very educated on any subject they what to learn about. myself i learn and will learn about the metal markets, the cost of mining is going up up costs billions to open just a steel mine, yes they need oil for there trucks. equipment also. thats the place to look into and find out what is going on in the world, don't just read local news, read the news in europe, india, china, yes china has english news we are in a very small world today, we have massive competition. best is to get a second job and be happy we live better than 90% of the world population. myself and thousands will not see pension times, yes we will have to work till we drop. its a blessing we still have health care?? freedom 55 thats over, then it went up to 65, now its going up to when you can't work no more. best is to find what you like to do as a hobby etc, this way you enjoy what you are doing and making a living. those that are getting a massive pension plan good for you, those that did better then me i'm happy for them, they took more risk then i did and they won. never get jealous of others doing better it shows your weakness i've learned and i'm  on going student of napolean hill foundation. naphill.com i used to be the average joe 6 pack, thinking how much others are making today i don't care how much they make, its up to me to build my own empire today i'm working 3 jobs to keep up and enjoying life to the fullest everyday keep busy, meet people, keep active, enjoy what you do, the fear will leave your mind, better health, money is the bottom of the want list, money will come for those few interested how to better yourselfs.

hey- steve   the foot healing ok, it sure looked sore at times i think about it steve i'm just posting stuff to keep the few entertained on the latest stuff going on with verduners. yesterday going home i was surprised that diesel was 1.42 a litre on the 401, the truckers are slowing down on the 401, 90km average slowing down to save on fuel. kingston is a booming town, the goverment pumped funds into the military talking to the army engineer on site, they have buildings plans for the next 25 years. kingston has no tradesmen, everybody is busy for the coming years in kingston. were we are building this building another 3 buildings are up for tender. back to pic's it started to rain, yep we poured the footings in the pissing rain. form work is a killer job, big storage of form work carpenters also every were back in ottawa i was asked 5 times to do this form work, looking at the pics the other contractor that i took over did bad work. look at the pic on the big wall first no good forms for style of large wall, best laugh look at the 2by4's bracing and leveing that big wall. never i ever seen that nor the inspectors, engineers they took them off the site?? so now i took over the foundation contract, yes you are rite steve still trying to make that nickel. my first job as a little contractor was in verdun at the age of 8 years old, remember mrs goodie on egan street behind your place. she had the nice house with the big yard that is rented for people to store there boats for winter time. my contract was to paint mrs goodies front wooden fence, i got 5 dollars and a lunch eveyday for my painting contract. that was my first real job at 8 years old, we made real money back then nickel, silver dimes, quarters, silver dollars, paper dollars backed by gold.

Walter if I didn't have the nurse showing up everyday to change the dressing on my foot and change this antibiotic bag on the potable pump,I might stop in Kingston and pay you a visit. The nurse says the foot is looking better ,and I might not need the portable VAC when one comes available.here is a pic.of it from Thursday May 22,2008. Steve

metalman108 MSN said...

steve don't know what to tell you, looking at that pic, heavy on the mind i'm back in ottawa today and only have enough time for office work family time, working 24/7's. only 1 day in ottawa, no time for verdun walking the streets etc i've found a nice restaurant near the site, called the blue moose, if you come down, myself and the crew will meet you at the blue moose. get someone to drive you steve, beer, ribs, steak, is on me this way you  can get hammered with the boys. even better let me know, i'll get you a motel room were we are staying and you can get sh^t faced with us all nite.

Walter/Stephen, Is this kind of footing OK  to be used for a garage for my backyard or do I have to build a 4 foot deep footing to protect against the winter frost. I got some plans showing a 4 ft footing wich seems ridiculous to me. Guy

metalman108 MSN said...

hey- guy   for the footing should be 4ft 6 inch, better go the 5ft first you would need to get a building permit, always get that building permit insurance that will give you no pain in the future, you can always go to your local city hall and find the planning department, there are engineers there etc were they can help you with getting the rite drawings, all the info you need to build your garage, those walls and footings in the pictures are full of rebar 32mpa concrete, over 1 ft thick walls, with the poured slab of 6 inches with rebar, the floor is made to carry armoured armt tanks and other heavy army stuff.

Walter nice forming work.

metalman108 MSN said...

steve   we are out here in kingston and you are welcome to meet us and i'll get you a room were we are staying. we are here another several weeks, the engineers are very pleased we took over the forming contract, the other contractor is back charged, the general contractor agreed to me on a time and material p.o.. the super signs off my daily work order sheet everyday. this way i'm protected in case i have to go to court  of not getting paid for the work i do. this business you need deep pockets and nerves of steel dealing with big general contractors, the skill of the trademans work is the easy part, the business of construction is the hardest part.

stephenfredmond MSN said...

Sorry Walter I need to be home for the day nurse to come change the dressing on my foot and the antibiotics on my I V ,other wise I'd go. Steve

well this morning the oil markets went down a bit or the so called correction?? something i noticed to share for those interested maybe your sons or daugthers looking for a good future?? yes i'm always on a construction job site, what i see that i'm about the youngest on sites??? there is no young future carpenters, iron workers, most can't can't find a bricklayers. i find those are the best trades to get into, why because everyone is into the other trades, except those 3 trades. yes its harder work, but the demand is gold and silver, the average age in those trades are 55 years and older on site, best you can stay in great shape, exercise 8+ hours a day, work 24/7's, make a good future these is a little help tip so tell your sons and daughters get into those 3 trades they are in demand in evey province, even a big demand in montreal for those that want to live in montreal. myself i can't find a carpenter and rite now in kingston ontario the carpenters union hall is empty, yes no carpenters in kingston and theres work in kingston for the next 25 years planned because of the goverment dumping monies into the military etc. even knigston is a great place to live and work thats it for now. lets keep this site active with all stuff of info of information for verduners soon i'll be on the streets of verdun chit chatting to verduners and taking pics of verdun hot spots
