I've been subscribing to a blog called Spacing Montreal. Today, I read and listened to a great article on Griffintown and a new video by the United Steelworkers of Montreal. The song is called Emile Bertrand, after the Emile Bertrand restaurant.
Take a look, the video cuts between current shots and shots of southwest sections of Montreal in the old days.

Yes this SpacingMontreal & Coolopolis are both good Montreal Blog's ......I am a member of Coolopolis (but probably can't remember my login name or pswrd)...However it doesn't stop me from reading any of these neat Montreal type spots,...... I have tried to post some pictures from these sites directly at times ( & include the web address) but the photo's just don't show up ,...or seem to be invisible,.with that notorius 'X' (red X) at the top of a blank screen,....... So it is woth visiting these different blogs,.and they pop up all the time ,.there have been several over the last few years,.with SpacingMontreal,.seemingly the most recent..............Many of the photro's on these blogs can be saved to ones own computer, but reposting eats up storage space on whatever site you post on,....but at least you will have the pictures,........Thaks for the input bigfellow......always appreciated...................................................... hf&rv
Les, I've started a photo album called 'Montreal'. In it I have uploaded some photos that I've downloaded from Spacing Montreal and other sources. They grabbed my interest and I thought that they would interest other Verdunites!
bigfellow I'm sure they would ,.all Verdun /Montreal type stuff like that is great to see,......one of the problems is that if you post it directly from your own PC,.you are then eating into your MSN allotted storage,..and then when you remove them later to make room for more stuff ( which of course ,is good) then the old spot where the picture was posted ,just shows that familiar old big blank white area,.with the red X....... Many of my old posts have that blank spot ,where a photo was,..but I always suggested to eveyone to 'Save them' then they will stay on the person's harddrive....So if you like By all means post them up & we can save some.////and they inevitably get posted by everyone agaian & again as the topics arise again,..so that works out quite well for us all........ ................................................................HF&RV
Les, thanks for the advice. I am not an expert on the internet by any means. I'll try it. BTW I just heard on the news that this winters snowfall in Montreal is the second largest after 1971. John
Bigfellow ,.now I see your photo album ,here on this site,.I thought at first you meant you were starting one on your own computer,....You will see what I mean thought about Storage or Usage of MSN's allotted amount,.but in the mena time we get to appreciate the pics,....Thanks Btw: We appreciate all input in the way of pics or stories...................... hf&rv
Yes I see that another Winter Snowstorm is on it's way again, seems the Farmers' Almanac was right again so far ,anyway.... and evryone back east has been having such great mild winters for a few years now,.........but that's normal winter in our day Yikes...........................I wouldn't want to have to get used to that again........but you never know what's in store for any of us regardless of where we live these days: but it does Confirm that since all the Politicians in the World have decided to jump on the Global Warming ( AKA: the Sky is Falling) bandwagon,.then we now can be certain that they are full of crap.........................including Suzuki ......... ..........hahahahahaha HF&RV but you know what? ......that's the Nature of Things,....hahaha
What's the old joke: how do you tell when a politicians lying? His lips move! I've been thinking of moving back to Verdun, buying one of the old flats that are now condo's...
Bigfellow, Bloggers used to use photo hosting services like Photobucket ot Imageshack to host their images so as to save the freeware sites some bandwidth. But WordPress, for example, has grown so big that it allows 50 gigs per blog which is a hell of a lot of pictures. Still, most people prefer to use the hosting services for putting images on message boards such as this one. Space or bandwidth should not be a concern if the images are "hosted" elsewhere. Les, The polar caps are melting and you think global warming is not real? Ken M
Ken wait a year and a half,.and they maybe freezing again,..... but I hope your right, cause I am a few blocks from the Beach,& it sure would be nice to sell it as waterfront,.but I suspect that maybe for future generations to do,.if at all,... I will not start worrying right now,...... and as far as I can tell ,from the same scientists ,...there used to be 1500 metres of ice ,where I am right now,So isn't the planet always warming albeit even slightly,...... When a politician jumps on board ,( I start looking for a Pieplate).as given any chance ,they will capitalise on hysteria via your wallet..................already hapenning..... I also have faith in the old adage 'Neccesseity,is the mother of invention'.............I also have some faith in mankind that it will survive............................in the year 2525......Ok start humming the song................Zager & Evans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhNM2K8cmU8 HF&RV
Bigfellow, By pure coincidence, I took enclosed photo of the Ãmile Bertrand restaurant on July 2nd 2006, the day before Barbara Strudensky died. I would like to have photos of the restaurant when it was on Notre Dame Street. Guy
Here you go Guy,....... this one is found on the internet,.but I have posted some over the years & will try to locate them for you,again..I took some in the old store many years ago,.but I will have to look for them..... HAVE FUN & REMEMBER VERDUN
Les, This is fantastic. I knew you would come through. If you can find an old picture in black and white this would be even better. However, this picture is fine and will add to my research. Guy.
