theatres in Verdun

I am looking for any and all information and pictures of the theatre on 5th ave and wellington. I am very curious to know what the original building looked like and was laid out inside. I used to work in the buidling a couple of years ago, and am vey curious as to the buildings history.

I have a picture of my father holding my brother near a theatre. I believe it is the Verdun theatre. I'm not sure, being new to this site how to post a photo, so I hoped this worked.

Wow ,onesmacO...............this is a great example of an old VerdunPhoto...........................   I would have to say that I do not recognise this intersection as being in Verdun ............I cannot Remember a theater having a Marquis right on the corner like that,.Unless this is the old Fifth Av & Wellington Theater,...........what a neat picture ,in anycase, Thanks for sharing that................................                  HF&RV

Hi I posted a picture of the theatre I believe to be on 5th and Wellington. Going by the age of my brother in this picture I would have to say it's 1949. I hope it is helpful.

hey how did you get it to open. I have no luck with computers. lol
I do believe it is the fifth Ave theatre on Wellington. You can just see the ith at the bottom of the sign. Say, Is that a John Wayne movie playing? I also posted this picture in pictures. The year 1949

That's 5th and Wellington, Les. The picture was taken facing the river. The theater is on the right (west) and the entrance of the Royal Bank of Canada is on the left East), both on the south side of Wellington. The Prince of Wales Restaurant would be behind the photographer's right.

Does that help?

Ok I see that now,.it's still the Marquis that threw me off,.I can't Remember it.I do remember the doors on the street, but no overhang of the sign,......  yet I walked past there plenty of times & sat on the chain in the parking lot that separated the Wellington St sidewalk from the theatres parking lot....and of course over to the restarant many times too,.but I guess in the 60's they had changed the front entrance to the 5th av.  making this a very neat photo to see:   Thanks for the info,.....                                              HF&RV

Did you check out the other photos I added to the photo section?
Glad you figured out the theatre picture. I was pretty sure it was 5th
and Wellington. Sandra

I should have said that the Prince of Wales would be to the photographers's left......

Hi Les, Thanks for letting me know last night that the e mail address of Al Ryan ( dod2243@comcast.net ) no longer works. I just got off the telephone with Ray Foxy Gagnon. We had a great talk about Plattsburgh. Foxy does many stories about Plattsburgh in the fifties on his Blog. He recently did an article on Canadians keeping the Michigan Red Hot Hotdog Restaurants in Plattsburgh in business. Foxy does stories on the drive in movie theaters from time to time also. Foxy was a really interesting guy to talk to.   It is with great sadness that I tell you that Foxy informed me that Al Ryan passed away last year two months after his Rouses Point book was published. Foxy will contact Mrs Ryan to see if the book is still available and get back to me.   Foxy has a Blog. Here are the Foxy links: http://users.westelcom.com/gagnonf/ and http://blog.pressrepublican.com/weblog/ . I informed Foxy about Verdun Connections and he was very interested. Be great if he joined...but you'd have to waive the "Lived In Verdun" rules. Rouses Point and Plattsburgh are like country suburbs of Verdun.   Hope all is well in God's Country-Fresco

Les, Ever try Lums in Plattsburgh?  They have fantastic hot dogs cooked in beer-Fresco
