Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.

Guy, I know that some of the teaching staff in 1934-35 were: Stella Lendon, George Tomkins, Mrs. St.Pierre, Miss K. Morrison, Mr. D.G. Cumming. These staff members were still teaching in 1958-59. The front row, far left, sitting looks vaguely like Mrs. St. Pierre. Her name at the time was Miss I.J. Hasley. Would like to hear from former students who may recall some of the staff in this picture. Cheers.
Back row second and third from left, A. Watson D. Cummings front row far left Miss I Hasley. That is all I can recognise so far. I will keep trying.

Hi, I think in the front row Miss Snyder is second from the right and Miss Morrison is the far right. Second from right in the middle row could be Miss Coveyduc. Really enjoy VC.
I only recognize 'Pussy Foot'. Photo must have been taken in the parking lot side but the ground in the picture is grass. I suppose in 1939 there wern't that many cars. Also is that the Verdun High crest in the top right? Strange looking at it b/c everyone pictured has passed.
Mom1945-Linda I too think that could be Mrs. St Pierre on the extreme left of the front row. She is that teacher who will remain etched in my mind for life. I got caught chewing gum in English class and had to write the following 100 times. Bovine creatures chew their cud in the field, High School girls should not emulate this practise. I think of that to this day every time I chew a piece of gum And possibly the female to the left of Dr. Grant might be Miss McMonagle. Ruth
Hi Ruth, Remember we wore uniforms (white blouse & tunic) and were not supposed to wear any jewellery of any sort. Wellllllllllll.......ummmmm.........I wore a little gold locket and chain and wouldn't you know, Miss McMonagle caught me in the hallway, grabbed the chain and lo and behold the chain broke. Geez, I didn't like her to begin with, didn't like her even more after that. Chewing gum, eh!!!!! Cheers.

Dr. Grant (Principal) was known as "Pussyfoot". Apparently (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) he really liked young guys. Sure glad I wasn't a guy. Cheers.
Hello Guy! There was some responses concerning the Teaching Staff at VHS, but where was the picture? I didn't see any 'attachment' with your note. Maybe that Photo should be put in the PHOTO Section of the site? I'd like to see it. Old "Pussyfoot" looked more like a PRUNE in my years at VHS. He used to enjoy strapping the 'Straight Guys' who stepped out of line. If anyone needed a 'whipping' it was him ) I remember Jean Snyder, (my classroom teacher in 10th, she straightened me out, got my Math grades UP) Thompkins, D.Cummings, our AirCadet C.O.. (he served in the RCAF during WWII) There were so many good teachers at VHS in the late 40's and 50's, but there were a few real weird ones with odd personalities. John Franshom was the greatest French teacher, he really did a good job, a solid guy. Enough of my rambling. how about that picture? VHS Victah, class of '52

Greetings Guy and Les! The picture doesn't show up in Message#1????? At least not on my screen.(I see all the replies, but no Picture, no Attachment symbol?) As for sailing, this month has been great!!!!!! I've managed to hoist my sails 'Out there' on 6 outings ,so far this month! Weather has been great. Sure beats my younger years on the St. Lawrence, but I'd do THAT all over again, IF I could! They were fun days. (Way before the Seaway and when the Islands were Islands, and sailing over to Cote St.Catherines wharf was a rush!) Aye, Mateys! Maybe you could send that picture directly to me? (Covedock1@Hotmail.com) Kudos to you both for all the good pictures that do show up and the many interesting facts you dig up for the site. Maggies pics (Black and whites) were great! How did I miss meeting all those good looking gals???? I know some of them would have enjoyed ending up down here in Florida and Sailing on the Bays and Gulf, even at 70+ years of age! The man sitting next to Dr.Grant would be Herve Ferland in his last year as Mayor of Verdun. He is also credited with building the boardwalk to provide work during the depression years. How many remember Assisitant Prinsipal Mr.Weatherbee (not in picture) who came later on. Yes Archie, there really was one. Ed
That makes sense Ed,....I have often heard,as well as relayed the story of why the Boardwalk was made of wood,...and it was because the MAyor of the day(and or his family) owned a lumberyard,....and sold wood. ........if he'd owned a cement plant ,......guess it would have been the concrete walk,.............
