THANKS for stopping by, I do my best to acknowledge when someone leaves a comment,you do not have to be a member here & everyone is welcome. Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.

Hello Guy ,...yes that picture is a real good Verdun photo,that all of us can relate to. We all most likely have had a picture like that,taken of ourselves or the family,leaning against those familiar old granite pillars, Maggie, was responsible for that one,.and I'm glad she chose that one,as it fits right in with that Topic of the Boardwalk: I have also come across several old Boardwalk photo's,and may scan them later,.I 'm still looking for something from the late 30's ,to see if they still had the planks,instead of asphalt,.......All the ones I've got,are from the same era, (the 40's),....earliest I believe was '45... (ashphalt )......as we've seen by your photo already,....That's what is great ( & important) ,to have as many photo's of our lives as possible,......just so we can appreciate them later on : Thanks for sharing your photo album, & Thanks to Maggie for selecting it. I really would suggest to everyone to 'go through' all of the picture albums available here,.there really is a good array of Verdun History depicted in those albums,......and I would encourage all of our members to consider sharing ,and maybe going through all their home photos again,& posting them ,....All pics are good ,Those pics with kids in them ,or our parents on balconies are welcomed,......Those are the ones that we can relate to,.........Anything Verdun/Montreal.............or just growing up,......it's all good stuff;
Les_F, I clearly remember in the early 40s, I was about 10 years old, walking on the boardwalk and a large splinter entered my running shoe and piercing my skin. The blood was flowing and a passerby picked me up and took me to the firestation nearby on LaSalle Boul.and a fireman removed the splinter and wrapped my foot with bandage. This is one indication that the boardwalk was made of wood at that period .I will try to find something on the subject at the SHGV on Saturday. Guy
Interesting first-hand experience with the wooden boardwalk. That's real proof....just thinking about what happened hurts! Cheers.
Around 1942, I was 6 years old. I remember pushing my brother in an old English Pram. I was running when a wheel fell between the boards and it stopped suddenly. My mouth hit the handle and knocked out a tooth. That was when the boards were starting to rot. Ed
