I posted this URL b/c I love anything from Red Skelton. I grew up with this sweet heart of a human being in my living room every Sunday evening. RIP Red.

Red was my father's hero also. I remember being very embarrassed whenever I had friends over because my dad did a real mean impression of Clem Kadiddlehopper, and all my friends used to laugh and I never knew if they were laughing at him or the impression. But we grew up with Red Skelton also, and we loved him. Cheers.
I had the good fortune of meeting Red in a grocery store while visitng Palm Springs in the late 70's. Spoke for a few minutes......told him how much I enjoyed his work. As a small crowd gathered, he entertained us for about 20 mins. One of those "Million Dollar Days"
I bet he had one of those faces that is immediately recognizable. What a thrill it must have been, and when it happens spontaneously like that, even better. Cheers
Yes I have to agree,this man was a very Genuine Person,....and garnered a lot of Respect,.but didn't seek it: I seem to Remember that he quit show biz,for awhile to take his son(I think) on a worldwide trip,.....because if I remember rightly his son had leukemia ,Does this sound familiar to anyone?? but I think he had two kids,.......?? He was liked by many,and it was his chance meeting ,Ed Wynne ,who liked the kid(who didn't it seems),....and let him come into a show,Red was actually selling newspapers outside a theatre,....as the story goes: My parents also loved this guy,.....with all his crazy characters,and he always had kind things to say:....................Certainly an inspiring Human Being

I believe his child did die of Leukemia. Must have been horrible for him. He was in Hawaii years ago displaying his clown paintings which were quiet good. His TV show began in 1951 so I was 10 years old!

We saw Red in Portland. Oregon quite a few years back. One of the local radio stations had a contest to win tickets and meet Red after his show. We did not enter, but did buy tickets. After the show, I told my wife that we were going up on the stage after the show, with the people that won the opportunity in the contest. She said we could not do that. I told her we were going up just as if we won, because all they can do is ask us to leave. So we got to meet him. As you say, he was quite a himan being. Winston Allison

Ah yes, who could ever forget such a genius, you could sit there laughing just watching him trying to get ready for a skit and not laugh at himself, we must not forget Freddy the freeloader,
