Firecracker Day

I seem to remember 'Firecracker Day' as being either May 24th or July 1.  But out here on the wet coast (not so wet these days...having a draught) they celebrate Hallowe'en with firecrackers....like it's a BIG thing.  Anyone else ever hear of this???

Cheers.

Hi Mom45,.........a few years ago Linda the whole neighbourhood was filled with white smoke from fireworks parties going on around here,.........it was like being in Beirut,...........white smoke everywhere,......Fireworks are easily had here, and many families have get togethers, where everyone brings $20 or $30 bucks worth of fireworks,......roman candles etc etc,.........and when yoy have 10 families show up to your party,.......you have a decent Fireworks, ........but be careful all you pet owners to keep your Dog's & or Cats ,in for the evening,.......they get really freaked out........ ........Hope it rains the day before so that the chance of random fires will be slimmer..........................(come to think of it,....maybe if it rained before I had dinner everyday,I'd be slimmer).........hahahahha

I remember it as Victoria day as the day we went to Chataguay to buy firecrackers because they weren't available in Verdun, In North Vancouver we have a big display on Hallowe'en put on by the Fire Department near Seymore. plus all the yahoos in the area

So....I guess I'm not alone in thinking that firecrackers didn't happen at Hallowe'en.  I wonder what the rationale is.  I guess this is a phenomonem that is particular to 'out here' then. Unless someone back around La Belle Province confirms that this happens back there now also.   Cheers.

In Montreal Victoria day long weekend was Fire Cracker day - and in some neighbourhoods it was when you dragged out that old sofa etc that had been put in the garbage and often there were bonfires - sometimes the firemen's hoses were cut when they came to put out the fires - anyone remember those days???

Bonfires were the norm in the West End - dont know how the firemen kept up since there were fires every other block.

I remember going outside Verdun somewhere to buy firecrackers. Now in Toronto, you can't buy firecrackers, but you can buy all kinds of rockets that launch into the air and explode. People set these off on the street, in back yards, etc. Seems the firecrackers are too dangerous, but rockets are OK. I guess I'm missing something ...... and no, it's not my fingers!!
