Closing Reunion, VHS, 1984
Here is an article I found in a booklet entitled A SHORT HISTORY OF VERDUN HIGH SCHOOL at the SHGV. It is regarding a dinner dance held on June 2nd 1984. I have more information on this if some members are interested.
Guy, Looking forward to more segments of this booklet. I have tried to get a copy from many varied sources, to no avail. I wait with baited breath for future installments. Merci beaucoup. Cheers
I have a copy of that booklet also. It was on a visit back to Montreal from Calgary, and when Stilwells was still on Wellington St. I popped in to get some humbugs and they had the booklets on sale there so I picked one up. Connie
Verdun's coat of arms symbolises the duel origins of those who established & developed the riverside community. The central features of the shield,is a gold castle on a red background: The Twin Turrets of the Fortress representing the Two Founding language groups, a Maple Leaf above the structure reflevting the Canadian allegiance shared by Both. A Wavy line below the Castledepicts another Common element,The Mighty River, which dominates the City's Geography & which has exerted a powerful influence on it's Growth & Development: I saw this in the booklet that Guy posted, and thought it was interesting,& worth reprinting (for my tired eyes mostly)..........but I thought it was also neat to hear the City's of Verdun's Flag explained fully,....... (I have often seen the breakdown of the City of Montreal's flag) but I don't recall the Verdun breakdown: and the City's Motto,is interesting as well "E Viribus Duorum " meaning "Through the Strength of Both" ............................................................................Thanks Guy for that info,...........
Guy5479. Wasn't there a teacher at VHS named Mr. Clifford, for some reason it trips a thought. I know I never had a class with him but seems to me there was ateacher by that name My era was 1954-1958. Might he have written this history of VHS? Ruth
Hi Ruth, I had heard a couple of years ago about a "booklet" written by Mr. Elliott, who was teaching at VHS when I was there (58-62), so I naturally assumed that this was the same one. Do you think/have you heard about another one? Would be interesting. Will check through my annuals to see if I can find a Mr. Clifford. Cheers.
