Hi Joy,   I am sure that Guy5479 could help here. He is a great contributor of all information about Verdun. Once he views your problem I am quite sure he will provide any information required.   Hope he is suceesful.   I will also check with people I know who lived on Third Avenue around that address of 121 who are a lot older than me.   Reggie Paine

Hi Joy....glad you got onto this site, I hope you'll be able to find your relatives and if not at least you will find out what a great place Verdun was, and still is of course, when your family lived in Verdun all those years ago.

All the best to you....Dianne Nowlan

Joy, One good source of information is the Lovell directory available on the Bibliothèque Nationale du Québec internet site as recently mentioned. If you can give me the name, address and app. year, I can look it up for you. The directory lists the streets, numbers and who lived there on any given year. The directory also lists all names of persons that lived in Montreal and the addresses on a given year. The names listed are the tenants of a given address .In other words, you can search either under the name or under the address providing you have either the name, the address and the year. Joy, I have checked the Lovell directory and the only Kenneth I found is the following in the 1930-31 year: W. Kenneth, 208 Second Ave., Verdun.   I did not check all years you requested as I am having trouble having access to the Lovell site as my computer freezes in certain situations. I just got the Bell MSN Premium Freedom Antivirus and I suspect that is the reason for my problems. I suggest you refer to the Lovell directory as follows: Biblioth챔que Nationale du Qu챕bec site number: http://www.biblinat.gouv.qc.ca/portal/dt/accueil.jsp Click COLLECTION Click the LOVELL  name in the cartouche. The rest is simple to follow.   Guy

Joy, the Brennie's lived at 121 3rd Ave  in a 2nd store flat over a candy/variety store, tosay it would be a Depanneur, I believe Roy was the youngest, and between 1945 to the 50ties he worked at the Northern Electric on Shearer Street. He had a 45 Harley and I believe he was also Jolly Roger or at least rode with them, he also had 30 Ford(A) .He often let me drive with him on the bike, going by my age now he would be about 80 years old. There also was a tie to a family named Busby, who lived on 5th or 6th Avenue. This 4th try at replying to your message, I lived on 3rd from 1939 to 1965, and my family was there till 1985 in the same flat near LaSalle Blvd.   Gordo

Hi Maroonvet,.....Gordo,........Do you know if this Busby family you mentioned had a daughter named Margaret,......I can Remember a Maggie Busby,........but that would have been in the 60's,.......I would imagine she would be only in her 50's now,.... __________________________________________________________hf&rv

to Les,   Don't know about a Margaret, but one of the boys name was Sydney, and on further thought their Dad opened the Hamburger Joint "Blue Heaven" after the war and it became better known as Sam's  later on. Gordo

There was a Sarah Taylor living at 712 Third Avenue.

A newspaper article from 1953 describes her 90 th birthday in which 37 direct descendants showed up to fete her. Her husband had died 11 years earlier and she lost a couple of sons to WWI. She was originally from Newfoundland,by 1953 she had lived in Verdun for 35 years.

So if you're a Taylor with roots in Verdun, this could be you.

To Joy    Message 12   To answer your question Deoannier is the French word for variety store, or a 7-11 where you can pick up bread, milk and variety of other things, and in Quebec Beer & Wine. Going by Coronation Street, it would be the equivalent ot The Corner Shop.   The Jolly Rogers was a Motorcycle Club, but definitely not comparable to the Hells Angels, I mentioned it because I believe there are several members of Verdun Connection who were members or who know of the club & in fact have posted picture of the members.   Good luck on your quest   Gordo
