THANKS for stopping by, I do my best to acknowledge when someone leaves a comment, you do not have to be a member here & everyone is welcome.
Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.
Hello Joy, I lived at 163 Third Avenue fron 1951 until 1959 after emigrating from England with my parents - Dad was Canadian, Mum a war bride. I know this is well past the years you are after but we did know a Billy Brennie (I have never seen it written but always presumed that was how it was spelled) . Would your family have been in that same area in the 1950's? Helen
Joy - yes the houses in Verdun (called flats) were often in groups of six two bottom flats then often up winding stairs to large landing which had 4 doors and two were for 2nd floor flats and 2 were for 3rd floor flats. Often the homes were brick on the outside - look in the photo albums on this site.
Joy - above picture is of my son and daughter when we lived on Osborne Avenue in Verdun but the picture represents a good many of the style of flats in the area. Sorry I could not figure out how to post a message under the picture or over it - I should have typed the message and clicked on the picture to paste after my message but hopefully it will give you a good idea.
If you put a message on the main general and perhaps new topic with ?'s about 3rd Avenue Homes - Guy or someone who are very into history of Verdun will reply. Verdun is quite spread out the older part having homes 20-30 years older than the newer section. My Uncle and his wife have lived in Crawford Park which is part of Verdun for approx 55 years and will be celebrating 60th wedding anniversary in June. I am sure that their house was brand new when they moved in and is newer than a good many of the older homes.
I can't tell you when the houses on 3rd were built but here is a picture taken from the front yard of 122 3rd Ave in 1960. I think that 121 would have been right across the street (not in this view) but the houses were all similar. Have you looked at "Birnie" families in the area? There were some at VHS in the 70's.
A Brinie 3031 Williams Rd, # 175 Richmond, BC V7E 4G1 (604) 272-0308 This is the only Brinie in the whole of Canada listed in the phone book - you could contact I guess eventually they changed the spelling to Brenniewas this a typo when you first spelled it Brinie if not then you might have some luck.I am assuming that your relatives were not Catholic is that correct? there is a cemetary on line to check if they were Catholic but I did not find any Brinie.

Hi Joy, Billy Brennie is 62 years old so I don't believe he is the one you are looking for. Reggie Paine
