I used to play hockey for Norman Dawe
On the Egan park rink(it ran between Egan & woodland above Bannatyne) there was the bakery right behind it.U used to sit inside the shack with a potbelly stove in it for heat eating fresh bread. This was in the 50tys.

I used to play Norman Dawe hockey outdoors at Willabroad Park , we used books for shin pads, could not afford real ones, used to play for hours and walked there on our skates and back home again to 3rd and Wellington, great days . Jimmy
I played there too when I was Bantam age for the Verdun Hockey Board. They had two hockey rinks and a pleasure skating surface.

I played for Norman Dawe at Brown Ave Park and for The Grads in the Verdun Hockey Board League at Willibrord Park - played there against the Willibrord Shamrocks and Juvenile Police and some other teams I don't remember the names. I had a great coach, for the Grads but can't rember his name. I remember freezing my toes at Brown Park and shovelling the ice in order to get the games played. I recall playing inside at the Auditorium only once play-off game and the Verdun Juvenile Police team beat us. It was a sad day - I played goal tender. Gary
Gary I played one year only. I was very grateful to play for Fergie's
team. He took the players who couldn't skate well such as myself. All
he asked if you had skates and you were picked up. great guy.

Forty some years ago, i played 1 year for i think it was the ravens at the park between egan & woodland just above bannantyne ave.
because i was the littlest guy on the team , i spent most of the time in the team box, huddled against the fridgid montreal temperatures in january & february. i couldn't feel my fingers & toes half the time. Nuts to that i said, gimme my baseball where its warm and hot. I hated Hockey...I know,, i know,, what kind of montrealer was i ????
1 month ago , I played hockey for the first time in those 40 years. Strapping on the gear, brand new stick in hand, ( what ever happened to the $5 CCM sticks we used to get??? ), skates sharpened.
2 minutes later i was back on the bench huffing & puffing, feeling every muscle screaming at me, saying "What are you trying to do to me???"
Falling, flailing to the ice, being a pylon on the ice for the rest of the players. "Please don't give me the puck!!!" Getting brave and creeping slowly towards the net. Find the puck on my stick, i panick as to what to do with it. Blindly i shoot it what i think is in the direction of the net, and magically it goes in!!!!
I finally got a goal after 40 years. I wonder if i can still collect the dollar my grand mother promised me back then for every goal i scored???
Oh well, just to reclaim my long lost youth is enough for me. now if only my body can keep up with my imagination....
there i am,,, on the wing with lafleur going up the ice with me.....he passes the puck,, i shoot.................
Hi Dave! Good go, nice to know we still have some youth in us even as we
age. LOL
