I found the enclosed map of Verdun dated 1899 at the SHGV yesterday. Building construction extended to Rockland which is the old name for Willibrord and there was nothing beyond except that the lots where subdivided. Also to the east, the streets north of Joseph  where removed to allow for the water purification plant and basin. Joseph street extends to Atwater thus replacing Holmfield and Regina, Strathmore and Traherne end at Joseph and Upsala changed to Atwater. Eldon, Field, Golden and Nepigon where removed.  Also notice the old rivière St Pierre.
I am also including a list of the streets of 1899 and notice that some names have changed.

Good morning Guy, This is very interesting. Our Dad, who passed away in 1988, used to tell us that at one time Verdun did not exist past Church Avenue - not in his lifetime but before - and that the Boardwalk was actually built as a levee to keep the river from flooding the rest of what became Verdun. Do you happen to know if this is true? Helen

Helen the boardwalk was built on the fill they used to bank the river from overflowing it's banks.Verdun went east of Church Avenue to Pointe St. Charles(Montreal). It went west of Church Avenue to Ville Lasalle. The houses stopped more or less at Stephens Avenue, the Douglas Hospital was next and the house started again into Crawford Park(which is part of Verdun) and then Ville Lasalle.Boarderd on the North by the Aquduct and the South by the St.Lawrence River.Nun's Island is part of Verdun..
