MONTREAL – Environment Canada says two tornadoes struck communities near Montreal on Friday night.
The agency says a low-scale F-0 tornado first struck the rural community of Brownsburg-Chatham, damaging farm sheds and equipment around 8 p.m.
A second stronger F-1 twister touched down in the town of St. Benoît de Mirabel 15 minutes later, uprooting trees and causing heavy property damage.
Environment Canada meteorologist René Héroux says no people appear to have been injured.
He says the F-0 twister had winds reaching 120 kilometres per hour while the second tornado saw gusts of 150 kilometres per hour.
Héroux says the damage from the severe weather includes shattered windows, smashed-in roofs and overturned cars.
He says up to seven homes in St. Benoît and ten farming areas in Brownsburg-Chatham felt the worst of the twisters.
Numerous power outages were reported as power lines were felled to the ground.
The tornadoes are the first of the season. Quebec typically sees about six twisters a year, usually between June and August

I remember one about 20 years ago in Napierville. Maybe it's because we didn't have trailer homes in those days. It seems to attrack them.
Funny you say that, because I always wondered why people in Tornado alley don't build homes out of real stuff,............it's always trailers.lol
Napierville you say, well if it was 40 years ago ,it(the tornado effect) could have been our cars on the 1/4 mile strip..........then off to the Saxony lounge in Rouses Pt NY,.....
