The legendary Jacques Plante (1929 - 1986) started his carreer with a company hockey teem in Shawinigan. In 1954, he was the goalkeeper for the Canadien de Montr챕al. He received the V챕zina trophy seven times between 1956 and 1969, and the Hart trophy in 1962 given to the most valuable player of the league. During his career, he also played for the NY Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers then retired in 1975.
Having been injured in the face by a puck in 1969, Jacques Plante was the first goalie in the National Hockey League to wear a mask regularly. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1978.
He lived in Swizerland during the last years of his life where he died in 1986 of cancer.
