Verdun

Reggie. I would top that if I could, but sure can't do it. I have been watching all the comments about Verdun, and I think we all basically think the same. I miss so many things. And you are right about our beloved Verdun. Most people were very friendly, and just walking down the street and saying Hi to everyone, was great. Also, it seemed like everyone knew everyone. I think what I miss most about Verdun, is my youth and my innocence. Oh well, at least most of our memories are worth the aging we have to go through, just to have those memories. Winston Allison

To winnie3ave,
When I read your note a very old song came to my mind:

Gonna take a sentimental journey
Gonna set my heart at ease
Gonna take a sentimental journey to renew old memories.
I got my bags and reservations
Spent each dime that I could afford
Like a child in wild antcipation,
Long to hear the "All Aboard"
Seven, that's the time we leave at seven
I'll be waiting up in heaven,
Counting every mile of railroad track that takes me back
I never knew my heart coukld be so yearny
Why did I decide to roam?
I'm going to take that sentimental journey
Sentimental journey home.
That's what Verdun Connections does for me. So glad I found it
Ruth

I remember my Aunt would pick us up and dance us around the balcony in the rear of our house (West End) when good music would come on the radio.  We also had a big swing on the back gallery and my aunt and my sister and I would get on and she would sing all the old songs to us "Cruising down the river on a Sunday Afternoon"  Come ona my house, etc etc.   I remember the smell around this time of year all the lilacs in bloom - if you close your eyes you can almost smell it.

Ruth,   Thanks for the words of  Sentimental Journey. Now a test of Verdun "know-how"! Anyone out there who can put guitar chords to this song? It would be a great song to strum along to, and sing or hum along.  IT IS a great song to hum! Try it, you feel good right away!   Art

Art, How about trying the 3 chords in the key of "C", chords C, F and G7 or try  getting the sheet music on internet. You can get everything on internet. Guy

Guy,   Thanks for your suggestion re the "C" chords, I'll give it a try. I used to go to a few sites that provided the words and chords to virtually any song,, but the site operators were threatened by lawsuits by the music companies and were shut down. I haven't tried in quite a while so I'll try again. Maybe they're up and running again.   Art

Hello   lllllllFranticlllllll  ,  there have been suggested 'Chat' times,.....but it seems almost immpossible to accomodate everone,.......but you can 'Suggest Going into Caht' anytime ,and if there are people on line at the time you may have some success that way,.......or simply try asking if people would like to join in a Chat a time of your choosing,....and that may work too.   I checkout the Chat room every so often,(just pop in kinda) ......and have found some members on there..  but if you have an idea ....let's try it out........  Have Fun & Remember Verdun  (good luck)

Ed, If I were in Verdun I would probably attend your sing-alongs and even bring my guitar. Our church (Anglican) has a guitar group that plays during communion each Sunday. This type of music has brought quite a number of young adults to our church as they found most others only provide organ accompaniment. However, if you could just give me the chords to Sentimental Journey I would appreciate them. I don't need the "score", as I am not a very proficient player. I play for my own enjoyment and at church. Art

Bev. Congradulations  to you on your 38 years. Also glad to see you are still in touch with Earlene. She lived in the same block as me. I lived at 835, and she lived at 839. Please say hello to her for me. And tell her to say a big hello to Elsie for me. I think of them both often. Thanks. Winston Allison
