Manhattan Explosion
Fire and emergency crews responded to the scene of a suspected steam explosion near Grand Central Station in Manhattan on Wednesday during the evening rush hour, officials said.                        I don't know of how serious or not this is?

Sandy I am glad Kris stayed home! My goodness what a mess down there, I just saw it on the news.....imagine an old steam pipe bursting! New Yorkers must have thought "here we go again"!.....I'm glad you don't have to go anywhere near the city on a daily basis.

Sandy,
Glad to hear that you and Kris are OK. That has to be nasty for people trying to catch The Metro North or Connecticut Trains at Grand Central Station-Walter

Hi Walter! How are you doing!   Dianne

Hi Dianne,
Doing great thanks. It's fantastic news to hear that all is well with Sandy. The train to Westchester departs from grand Central Station, a block away from tonight's explosion. Hope all is well tonight in Nova Scotia. Have you been having a great summer? That's a dumb question. I know that Nova Scotia = an excellent summer. All is quiet in Florida. I'll keep you posted on any news developments down here-Walter

Sandy,
It's good for Manhattan to let a little steam off every now and then. I saw this one time but it was not nearly as bad. I was walking west on 49th towards 7th Avenue and I heard what sounded like a railroad steam engine. When I rounded the corner on 7th Avenue a manhole had blown and steam was shooting about 150 feet up in the air. It was some site. At this very same location (right by The Metropole Cafe) a couple of years later as I was walking to Penn Station, cop cars pulled around the corner from 48th Avenue and suddenly there were cops everywhere with rifles pulled on these two guys in a car by the Metropole. Cops were on the sidewalk getting us to move. One cop said "There's nothing to see, keep moving." I said to him "Nothing to see, this is the most exciting moment of my life." The cop laughed but I had to keep moving-Walter

Sandy,
True story. And to this day I do not know who those two guys were in the car that were being arrested. The next day I made sure I had the Post, Daily News and Newsday. Not a word about my big event. I did not get The New York Times. The New York Times would not stoop so low as to cover a New York arrest of a couple of bad guys-Walter

Sandy,
I used to tell people that if you wanted to read the out of town news then just get The New York Times. As for my bad guys I never found out who they were. I knew they were bad guys because they kept so cool as all these rifles were pointed at them. Non bad guys would have freaked out. I have often wondered if they were members of The Hell's Kitchen Irish "Westies" Gang. I have a friend down here who was a NYPD Detective. I asked him about this and he told me this happens so often that it would be hard to find out who they were. Often or not, I only saw something like this one time. Another time I came across some Police activity at 42nd Street and 7th Avenue. Two guys had shot each other. Both were OK but one had been shot in the ass. The Cops were laughing about this-Walter

Sandy, Please don't put down the Times, they supply my daily crossword without which I would get nosleep at night. It used to be Scotch and Johnny Carson but I'd wake with a heavy head having had nightmares about Ed McMahon selling me a Readers Digest. So now it's the Crossword and (sigh) hot milk. Concentrating on the crossword helps clear my mind of all other problems that might have arisen during the day. At 11 pm I turn off the TV, PC, and telephone. I sit onmy bed with the puzzle drinking the hot milk, knowing the rest of the day is mine.              Ed

I had to look twice! The New York Post, and it's 25 cents? Is this really today's headline or a copy from years gone by?

Sandy,
When I lived in New York I could buy The New York Post in Manhattan for 25 cents but the Suffolk County price at the time was 50 cents I believe. The NY Post was $1.00 in Florida, it just went up to $1.25. Still a great deal. What a paper, almost as good as The Montreal Star used to be. When I used to visit my aunt and uncle in Outremont I could buy the New York Post at a small grocery store a block away. There were very few English speaking people in this section of Outremont yet you could still buy The New York Post-Walter

Sandy,
Jay Leno explained this confusion last night. Bill Clinton saw the two women and he started yelling "Come on down!" When the ladies heard this they thought it was Bob Barker-Walter

Edbro in response to #30msg./////////////////I agree ............I never thought of those possibilities,.......but I would agree that Bill Clinton,.....would be a far better advocate of (using your senses) & ( getting people to respond Sensibly).............with the knowledge of having the full force of the USA ,behind him,...........I would think ,he's learned from his experience of 'not acting'.....but given the tendency & lunacy of this Extreme Muslim  Nutbar Tenedency,.....I think the Bill Clinton, just may be the right guy to be appointed to this position,...........but I'm not ceratin if this is even possible (assuming Hillary wins),...........but I would think we & ( The World ) could do a lot better than having the Haliburton Cheney & War Mongorring Bush Lunatic ,running the show any longer,,,,,,,,,,.When will they have an administration with enough Balls to go after the Saudis for one ,..........and make examples of some of these Would Be Killers ,distguisesing themselves as Religious People........ If they (Muslims Extremeists).......Hate these Free Country's so much,.then Why do they Come here,.......and better yet Why do we allow them to be as crazy as they are apt to be............????  ..................................................Things Have Changed ....Bob Dylan ......hmmm  maybe we should give the B-C team another shot at 'securing oil' for America.....they've done a remarkable job so far haven't they,.......   before they were in power Oil was $20/bucks a barrel,..........but with a great deal of effort & the erosion of personal priveleges,..They've managed to get it to $70PLUS/ Barrell ....................God Job,........and now they will engineer another 'attack' to justify staying in power........YIKES I hope that doesn't really happen,,,,,,,,, ...........Yea for all the People who supported this Lunatic Mob........... ...........................................Just an Opinion,..........how do you feel now,.....?                                     ...............................................................YIKES

Yup Les, Bill's the boy. When he was in office he kept the Jews and Arabs talking to each other. The peace talks with Barak and Arafat did not conclude the way he hoped for simply because Arafat kept refusing to agree to a pact that would have been wonderful for his people. Even though Arafat acted like a complete asshole Bill didn't give up on him and kept briging him back to the table. If  nothing else it showed the world that the U.S. cared as much about the Palestinian people as the Israelis. When Bush took over, the first thing he did was Visit Israel and completely ignore Palestine. Some political scientists think that was the slur that ignited Bin Laudon fury against the U.S. I never felt Clinton was acting he comes across as a very warm person who really cares.                Ed

les__f MSN said...

Edbro I would agree,.....I did miss his speech here in Victoria BC,.... not so much a speech as a 'Visit' I find him to be far more of a 'Statesman' than we've seen for some time,..................... The present day administration should almost be charged with treason,......but that of course will never happen,...... Hopefully one day 'Real Leaders' will have the wherewithall,...to do what is needed,.....and sometimes that may be to set some of these nations 'back' to the time frame' they like to portray,............... Scary when many Western Nations allow (under the guise of Freedom),...all these extremeists to have their way,..... I would think it should be rather Simple,..come here ,practice your religion anywya you like,..but Don't start trying to change the laws here to suit you,. .......if your so adamant about living life the way ,you used to,......Then Go Back......................................................Strange but this Bending over backwads to accomodate people ,..who 'really' don't like it here Bugs Me   ..........Have Fun & Remember Verdun...........................................................

"When he was in office he kept the Jews and Arabs talking to each other."

Isn't it obvious by now, the Palestinians aren't interested in peace? They want the Jews out of Israel and are willing to die for it.

winnie3ave MSN said...

Bill

They may be willing to die for it, but they are more willing to kill all the Jews for it!!!!!

Bill, I don't feel knowledgable enough to take sides, but I remember when Young Palestinian boys were dying Golda Meir said, "There can never be peace until Arabs learn to love their children more than they hate Jews..  Ed

Not sure exactly what she implied by that statement, but as we all are so aware of, they are strapping bombs onto their own children.
I hate this conflict. The best I know is I don't know. Pray for them.

Les, You mention Bill Clinton in the mideast might do a good job with the full weight of the US behind him. He would have the weight of many countries with him. He is admired by Canadians well liked in Australia and popular in Britain in spite of the fact they got dragged into Bush's war.                         Ed
