Hockey legend Guy Lafleur was arrested this afternoon, ducking into a police station a day earlier than previously planned to answer a charge of giving contradictory evidence in his son Mark Lafleur's court case.

Old "yuumy" favorites

I was listening to a talk show CFRB (Toronto), the discussion was about what do you remember as a favorite yummy food that your mother used to make or buy when you were a kid, it could be baked good or a meal. (The mothers called in too saying what they used to make that the kids loved). One person called in saying his mother used to make rice crispie squares with cheeze whiz spread on top, (yuk), another one said they loved a peanut buttery/jam/ banana loaf.

What I remember was sometimes when my mother went downtown, she would come back with this pie/cake from Kresgies or Woolworth's, she said they called it Boston Cream Pie, but it wasn't a true Boston Cream, it had no chocolate. It was to die for, melt in your mouth and light as a feather. It was like a light sponge cake with a light whipped cream in between & on top, (I think).  I'd love to make one if I knew what was in it. Does anyone remember ever having this kind of pie/cake? 

What were some of your favorites as kid in Verdun?  Another favorite of mine was Hamburger Roll-ups.

Griffintown Plane Crash April 25th 1944

Here is an article from the Gazette regarding the 4 engine Royal Air Force Liberator that had left Dorval and was heading for England and crashed in Griffintown on April 25th 1944. There must be photos around and maybe Les can come up with some of them. The subject came up a while back and was stored in my memory.

A man in the Florida supermarket tries to buy half a head of lettuce. The
very young produce assistant tells him that they sell only whole heads of
lettuce.

The man persists and asks to see the manager.

The boy says he'll ask his manager about it.

Walking into the back room, the boy said to his manager, 'Some asshole wants
to buy half a head of lettuce.' As he finished his sentence, he turned to
find the man standing right behind him, so he added, 'And this gentleman
has kindly offered to buy the other half.'

The manager approved the deal, and the man went on his way.

Later the manager said to the boy, 'I was impressed with the way you got
yourself out of that situation earlier. We like people who think on their
feet here. Where are you from, son?

'Canada, sir, eh?' the boy replied.

'Well, why did you leave Canada?' the manager asked.

The boy said, 'Sir, there's nothing but whores and hockey players up there.'


'Really?' said the manager. 'My wife is from Canada.'

'No shit?' replied the boy. 'Who'd she play for?'
