Our society (SHGV) is trying to identify this old photo of the Church of England in Verdun. Can anyone tel us where this church was situated and was it replaced by another church. One of our society (shgv) members is doing a University financed research on all the churches that exhisted since the beginning of the founding of Verdun wich will eventually be published and our society is helping him on this project since this research will contribute to our archives.

Guy. I think that is the old St. Clement's Church before it was it was enlarged. Corner of Gordon and Wellington. Ron.
Guy. It may have had two additions to it. The vacant lot to the right of it is still there. I have that picture in my computer for some time. Ron.
Ron,
Would you be good enough to post the photo, then we can compare the 2 photos to see if there is any resemblance.

Good one Guy. How do I post Pics. on Multiply. I have another one I guess it is the next one after. Where I got them I don't know. I had a mother board failure in Jan. and a lot of info is lost in my computer

Guy, for what it is worth, the Anglican Church is otherwise known as "the Church of England". St. Clement's is the Anglican Church in Verdun. The Church celebrated it's 100th Anniversary in 1997. I think the current building was not built until around 1906 so this might have been there first. You can probably check with the Anglican Church Diocese in Montreal
Hey, I found it. This photo is indeed the original St. Clement's at Gordon and Wellington. Copy and paste the following link to see the history on the St. Clement's Website. http://montreal.anglican.ca/stclement/buildings.htm
Good detective work Maggie! I was married in St Clements, but I didn't know of this older building existing before...Diane
If you look in the 1972 photograph, you can also see the top of the CKVL tower in the background.
Great work Maggie !
Thanks for the historical link

It is a chance that the middle post bent a little bit to give us a better view of the church :

JMH those poles like that remind me of all the ones in the lanes around Verdun, & on occasion I'd have to climb one ,to put the clothesline back on the pully, for my Mom. (she wasn't a good climber I guess...lol) but when you get half way up & higher the pole got real narrow & would sway with my weight on it....Yikes !! those poles were not real good quality......lol hf&rv
Hi jmhacheyThe Lord works in strange ways.Pauline
Did he work for hydro ? He really is everywhere I guess. lol HF&RV
Hi Les He really is everywhere but that day I think He was working for Bell .The Hydro would be in the back.Pauline
Maybe He was planning where to put Videotron
yes He does - work in strange ways, that is - I would have loved to see you Les swaying up there on a pole re-attaching the pulley for your Mom - funny stuff
