I found this illustration yesterday at the SHGV on the LaSalle Hydro Dam in the book "Le Monde Illustré" published in 1899 so the subject was new as the dam was completed in 1897 and production stopped in 1931. It must have been very impressive when in operation and no doubt there was no swimming below the dam. You can see the illustration of the boat going down the rapids.
