Gilles Vigneault.

I thought my thread would get lost in 'Misc', so I gave it more attention. Thanks Bob for your reply.
Bill

Anyone familiar with Gilles Vigneault? I believe this man may have married a sister of my Irish grandmother Annie Foy who died in 1938. I tried googling this famous Quebec poet to find out the name of his wife but failed.
I just a minute ago ordered a book written by his son Guillaume Vigneault from Amazon, hoping his contact info would be included in the book.
Isn't genealogy fancinating?

Familiar with Vigneault? Absolutely Bill. How neat is that, eh? You will have to get up to speed on "Mon Pays", n'est pas?

Hi Bill ! Some infos about Gilles VIGNEAULT and Alison FOY Gilles VIGNEAULT The revered Quebecois singer and poet Gilles Vigneault paints intimate portraits of his time and fills his songs with his passion for his native region, his love of nature and his fellow man. Vigneault, a committed humanist, has been a fervent supporter of the independence movement in Quebec. [...] Meanwhile, his personal life was busy too as he began a new relationship with a woman named Alison Foy. [...] Vigneault teamed up with Robert Charlebois for two more memorable concerts in June 1976. Taking to the stage with Yvon Deschamps, Jean-Pierre Ferland and Claude L챕veill챕e, Vigneault and Charlebois presented the show Une fois Cinq to an enthusiastic audience of 300,000. The live album recorded on this occasion went on to win the coveted "Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros" later that year. Meanwhile, things were progressing in Vigneault's personal life, too. In September he walked down the aisle with his partner, Alison Foy, with whom he had already had three children.   http://www.rfimusique.com/siteEn/biographie/biographie_7337.asp   JM

Wow Jim, you certainly cut some corners for me. Thanks. Alison Foy, now I'll search for her info., birth date etc. If she is related to Aniie Foy she may be a grand niece. I'm not keeping my hopes up, I've been down this interesting road before.

Jim once again I thank you for this site. I actually have been to my grandmother's grave site in 2005. I hired an Ottawa genealogist to find her grave, and she learned somehow that she was buried in a family plot without an inscription on the stone, and also the office registration name was Annie Fox not Annie Foy. I had the office correct this mistake. I also had them inscribe her name on the family obelisk. She was buried in 1938 so it took 67 years for her blessed name to be recognized.
It's a shame one cannot merely type in name of a deceased loved one and the info would instantly appear on our computer screens showing the exact cemetery and plot number. If that was possible I'd type in my great grandfather Patrick Foy. Don't know his wife's name.
I've been on the phone with some French Canadians in Quebec, and find the Irish are well looked upon by the French.

Went to the 'Mount Royal Cemetery' web site. They do not have an online data base for plots. 'Cote De Neiges' maybe the only one in Quebec with this very helpful feature. Canada has a list of government approved genealogists which helped me inexpensively.

I wish I could attend this event on the 20th to ask Guillaume about his grandmother Kay Foy who may be a sister of my grandmother Annie Foy. I could write a letter to him and address it to the library. I am now reading his book btw, 'Necessary Betrayals'. So far so good.

Is the english translation of Guillaume, William? Just curious. I flunked every french class I had, either at Bannantyne or VHS, I am a bit ashamed to say. It's not that I didn't try.

I guess I'm not the only one who spent 8 years learning french in the Verdun school system, and still cannot speak french. No shame.
Btw I watched 'W' today. If you hate Bush you'll love this film.

I have been under the impression that Guillaume is the equivalent of William. Just thinking that both grandmothers would have had maiden names or would that have been Foy?

Thanks for responding Maggie. I can only speak for my grandmother. Her birth name is Foy.

Biking..Could this be of any use to you.   Gilles went on to marry Rachel Cloutier (with whom he had four children) in 1955. http://www.rfimusique.com/siteEn/biographie/biographie_7337.asp

Yes, thank you Laurie. I guess the Foy connection was with Gilles second marriage to Allison Foy. Gilles birth date was 1928, so Guillaume if born in 1970 could have been Gilles and Allison's son. And the grandmother Kay, may be Allison's mother. Interesting.

Btw here is the dedication from the book 'Necessary Betrayals':
"To Kay Foy, my grandmother, who taught me so much more than she would ever own up to."

I wrote the library where Guillaume will speak on Monday and asked them to pass on an email I sent them.

Well, it's over ten years later, and you have likely moved on in your research. But just in case...I knew Gilles Vigneault and his partner Alison Foy in the 1970s. My then-spouse was his drummer. Alison was his second wife and Guillaume was definitely her son. I once babysat him.😃 My ex and I divorced and I lost touch after that.

Hello everyone, we are in 2023 but I have some answers. My mother (born in 1929) worked with Alison Foy’s mother at the Town of Mount Royal Library in the 70’s. Her name was Kay Foy and she was maybe 15-20 years older than Mom..so born in the 1910’s and she lived on Dobie street in TMR. Alison Foy, her daughter, was married in 1976 to Gilles Vigneault and their last child Jessica was born in 1983…so if you do the math, Alison was maybe born in the late 30’s or early 40’s. I do hope that those who were looking for this info will receive this, better late than never!! 😊

I’m not sure my post went through. Alison was Kay’s daughter. Kay lived on Dobie Street in Town of Mount Royal and she worked as a librarian with my mother(born in 1929) Kay was maybe twenty years older so born in the 1910’s…and Alison had her last child Jessica in 1983 so I imagine she was born in the late 30’s or early 40’s. Hope this reaches all of you! Better later than never! 😊

UPDATE 2023 part 2: after my post I found Mrs Kathleen (KAY) Foy on the Urgel Bourgie site. She passed at the age of 104 in 2015 (born in 1912). It clearly mentions Alison(Gilles Vigneault) in the text and it gives the résumé of her life. Voila! Resolved 🕵️‍♀️
