CEMENT downs wow that brings back memories,i played football for three years on those downs, Verdun Pat and Martins, 79 th Battery (point club) and the P.A.A. another point club, we won the provincial juvenile championships with the latter two clubs, Tony Padjewkouski played for the 79th, Norm Pepin, Pat Duffy and Bill Jones to name a few members of that club, and an unstopable fullball names Roger Gauthier,,,"they were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end " Chuck  Catto

Hi Jim,, I played football there, three years in a row with the juvenile teams, verdun Pat&Martins, 79th battery and the P.A.A., the latter two clubs winning the Provincial Juvenile Title,, that sewar used to get covered prior to a game with a belap bag, with all three teams i played either wing back or defensive back, and when the rers were not looking i'd pull the bag off of the sewar exposing the grid and usuall line up right behind it  ait was fun,, and of course in those time i was a little crazy  lol  Chuck

Chuck...you live in Hemmingford now, isn't that what you said in an earlier post? Aren't you in the cattle business? I am too...of a sort. My hubby and I run a small beef farm for a rich old lawyer here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you ARE in the cattle biz, here's a rare pic for ya hehe My 2 daughters with one of our heifers, Bessey. Bessey is over 2 years old now and expecting her first calf next month. She's a gentle one cuz her Momma died when she was just 2 months old and I became her surrogate. Altho my hubby was saying that she'd likely die, I coaxed and convinced her to eat grain with dehydrated milk for calves and she's a sweetie now. Just dying to see if she'll allow me to handle her soon-to-be-born calf as not a single one of the other cows will let you within 10 feet of theirs! hehe I'll let ya know. Care to guess her breed(s)? God...lol...after all this I really hope you ARE in the cattle business as I remember or I'm gonna look pretty stupid! hehe Luv, Sharon

Wow, a week gone bye ,time flys  or "tempus  fuget ' nice today, around zero, I am getting ready to go to the Blue Bonnets racetrack and watch my beloved horses ,See , stopped drinking 15 years ago and ended up  at the race track , no idea how that came about , but have  fallen in love with the horses, but don't worry ,just a two dollar bettor, I KNOW your can't WIN . It is so wonderful to read all the postings in this Verdun chat forum, I am amazed by the wonderful memories and not the negative thoughts that seem to exist everywhere these days, I feel by watching and reading , that we did indeed have wonderful childhoods, and yes, we  were poor, but had great parents who worked hard  for us and on us to become  good people, I personally spent 4 years in grade 8 ( going out with the math teacher ), but somehow managed to make a good life for myself and family ,I have learned respect and feelings of generosity from my Verdun background, I have mastered the french language , I rememeber all the rumbles we used to get into in the lanes way back then, but somehow Verdun in my memory stays very vivid , to all who read this let me say  I am proud  of all of you who have  made  the effort to lead a good life , one thing we all have in common  is the Verdun ,Point , Ville Emard  ,Ville Lasalle hard working background of wonderful upbringing,  hang tough and have a wonderful week   Jimmy

Les, it is great to re-read some of these old postings that you are ''resurrecting''. I can't help but notice Jim's line ''I am amazed by the wonderful memories and not the negative thoughts that seem to exist everywhere these days''. With a few exceptions, this has been true of Verdun Connections, and once again, I want to express my gratitude for the creation and ongoing support of this group. M.P.U. aka Ralph.

Hi Shamrockbarbara1,

Would the Jerry & Marna you referred to be Trudell? I don't think I
have seen them since they moved from Armel St in LaSalle. They lived amidst
a bunch of my cousins, Gail (Lane) Wright, Linda (Lane) Armstrong, Sharon (Lane)
Stacey & Wilma (Walton) McNiff. If you are able to get an email address...
I'd love to drop them a note.

Thanks,

Alan Archibald

There is a picture of Jerry Trudell in my album (Verdunites at Heart).
He lived across the street from me until the family moved to River
Street. I was familiar with his mom, dad and sister. I'd like to email
him also.
