I grew up in Verdun lived on Egan and 4th Ave then left for the Yukon in 1979 went woodland school up until grade 6 still remember alot of people but I can't figure out who people might be by their user names or profiles maybe I need to ask more. I ended up moving to the Yukon meeting and marrying a girl from Dorval go figure.This is a great site put me back in contact with my many cousins who I have lost contact with over the years. I have family there still and try to go back every couple of years. Anyway I will be 39 in Dec. (no gift necessary) LOL........ and thanks for listening.

Dow Planetarium 40th anniversary

Born out of the Expo '67 construction boom, the planetarium was built on the old Bonaventure railway station site. Funded by Dow Breweries, it cost $1.2 million and was the first public planetarium in Canada.

I know I asked this question before and I probably ask it again every so often..Does anyone know whatever happen to a Norman Longely from Verdun,Crawfordpark area, ....he had a brother name Harry and a sister name Barbara...I think I spelt the last name right, not sure..

Doug Warnock - Hero

Here is the incident where Dough Warnock saved a woman and 2 children from drowning in the Winter of 1995. I had to post the article in 2 sections. Please note that I was unable to copy the complete left hand article.I did not find it in the Guardian but I did find it in the Messenger. I have also included a rough translation.

 

 

 

TRANSLATION:

Doug Warnock thought he would make the headlines after such an incident. Doug was calmly chatting with friends on a tuesday  afternoon at the Verdun Yacht Club and was displaying  his certificate of merit wich he received from Raymond Lavigne and was replying to the questions from the Verdun Messenger concerning a family excursion wich turned into a drama.

Doug Warnock is a member of the Verdun Yact Club since 20 years and is a healthy 45 year old man who likes nautical activities and owns a chalet on Heron Island. He is a father of 1 boy named Max. Doug is presently unempled and has since received several offers following the rescue.

It was 11.40 last sunday when a police officer named Anthony Vassilya left his auto near the Verdun Yacht Club when he heard the cries of a woman who was desperately gesticulating on the frozen river. Anthony ran to get help and friends from the Yacht club ran to give an helping hand. Dough Warnock and his friend

Bruno Lavoie arrived  and Doug dived without hesitation and reached the woman who was holding her daughter. No longer out of the water, Manon Lanteigne advised the recuers that a second daughter was in the water. Wet to the bones, Dough Warnock quickly noticed that a boot was floating down the currant  and quickly grabbed the body that was floating below the surface. Once ashore, Doug noticed that the child was unconcious and was not breathing and a volunteer starteed giving artificial respiration and little Mélissa Aubin started coughing and spitting. She seemed saved. Help soon arrived much before the arrival of Urgence-Santé; volunteers applied first aid before transport to the hospital and Mélissa and the other two seemed in pretty bad shape. Manon Lanteigne suffered a violent shock and was transported to the Centre Hospitalier de Verdun while the two children Annie Lanteigne 4 and Mélissa Aubin 6 were transported to the Montreal Children's Hospital.  Mélissa who spent 20 minutes in the water was in critical shaped, the child's heart stopped and was it not for the volunteers who gave her artificial respiration, and a heart massage, she would not have survived. As soon as she arrived at the hospital, she was treated in intensive care and the doctors seemed encouraged.. However, monday morning, the hospital assured the mother and grandfather Gilbert Aubin advising them that Mélissa was saved as they were    worried of neurological sequels.

As for Doug Warnock, the rescuer received first aid for a swollen body at the Victoria Hospital and he was released a couple of hours later and he quickly brought bear dolls to the 2 hospitalised children.

On Monday, the media invaded the Verdun Yacht Club chalet following the incident and on the site of the incident. The politicians also visited the sight, the federal deputy Raymond Lavigne and the mayor Georges Bossé. Deputy Lavigne gave a cetificate of bravory and advised the governor-general to enter the act of bravory to Doug who received a medal. Mayor Bossé had to answer may questions from the journalists on the the security concening the river bank reminding that it is not possible to fence the complete area but that warning signs would be installed.

The incident will have at least permitted to warn the adults and young ones of the danger of sliding on the river bank. The Red Cross took the ocasion to give a demonstration wenesday on the means of rescue in case of a fall in the water.

I did not find the Bob Snow incident in the Guardian nor the VHS Annual                 Book for1963-1964-1965-1966 but I did find a Jack Snow in the 1964 Year Book. Any relation ?
