Archealogical Conference on Maison St-Dizier (Old Stone House)

Yesterday was held an archealogical conference at the Maison St-Dizier (Old Stone House) and I took the opportunity to take photos of the interior and the exterior. I was particularly interested in taking photos of the interior not having seen it before. It was completely renovated with as much as the old structure was kept including hand crafted wooden beams and stone structure. However, a lot of new materials where used as you can see from the photos. This building is one of the oldest on the island of Montreal having been built in 1710, 300 years ago. No official notary documents have been found but this date was established based on expense documents that where found. Diggings on the western side of the house (LaSalle side) have unearthed the presence of a stone structure of a bread oven as well as the foundation of a small addition that was probably a shed or a small room wich may have been used by one of the religeous nuns that documents show of such a presence. Indian artifacts where discovered some going back several hundred years as this area was a central thoroughfare by water and an indian as well as white man main trail (LaSalle blvd). Those traveling by boat had to stop before and after the rapids to do portage.

The museum will be open next year to the public as there is still a lot work to do to convert the house to a museum and the landscaping still has to be done.

Wouldn't you like to catch the little creeps that feel the need to deface everything with paint cans:

I wonder how long it will be ,before they tag the new restored building,?
