Click on the poem in the box above,& see a copy of "In Flander's Field" in mr McCrae's own handwriting dating back to 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

- John McCrae

Yesterday, we celebrate the 235th birthday of the US Marine Corp. Had a breakfast with my fellow Marines. Then went to our grandaughters band concert to celebrate Veterans Day (a day early). Tonight we have a veterans Dinner at the local Elks club. All in all, it is a very humbling experience to be honored along with my fellow veterans. What a change from our Viet Nam days. All of the Vets gave some. A lot of the Vets gave their all. I will be honoring not only the vets here in the USA, but will be honoring those in Canada as well, My father died serving with the RCASC in 1943. He is buried at Mount Royal.

You made me think of Bernie Lewis. Wonder if you served with him.

I played football with Bernie Lewis. He was a big boy then.I didn't know he went south to join the forces.I remember he beat up seven up and his gang one by one after they gang jumped him. Pretty tough guy

He survived Vietnam but a late night on a motorcycle got him. Sad

You will have to scroll down a little ways in this 'In Memoriam' list from the Montreal Gazette
If this is the same Bernie Lewis, then it seems he died on Nov 2,1979

Winnipeg1 last year at a funeral I met a guy from my old class and "sevenup" came up. The guy told me that I would not recognize him today. Apparently he's one of these big fat guys on motorcycles you know the ones you think are on motorcycles because they don't fit in cars. All I remember is a skinny scrawny kid.

I don't know who this is but have alook to see if it's the fellow you remember,There is no mention of Verdun in the notice, but Montreal is mentioned & there is a photo of a bride & groom, Have a look at the photo..again you may have to scroll a little:

ps: It was the only Trevor Sevigny that came up in the search........

Les thanks for your efforts. It looks like him but it was 45 years ago that I knew the guy. The timing is right ,he was married in 72 That would put him in the right age bracket. We will have to see what Jumper01 says Brian

I don't believe that's him. I can't locate my class picture right now so I can read his name on the blackboard. I'm pretty sure it's Pierre. The last time I saw him was in the 70"s and he had orange hair so that picture is much to presentable to be him. I will try to find the picture and let you know

Well I guess the only Pierre Sevigny that I remember was a minister in the conservative govt.......I'm guessing that wouldn't be him.......hahahaha Oh well we tried....... HF&RV
