Metro 66.............seemed cool to us,.just not inside the cars..lol
In 1966 ,with much anticipation we awaited the 'new Metro subway sytem' too cool ,travel underground and all over Montreal.....Wow , neat stuff.....
Ok here is the album with a few neat old shots from 1966,..and the big inauguration,.seems funny to me they needed a Cardinal there to inaugurate an 'under the earth travel system' ........Hmmmmm Freudian slip maybe , Catholicism should know much about 'down there' ........hahahahha
What an exciting time on that Metro. All the way from Atwater to Place Ville Marie. We lived in Verdun and Ville Lasalle during that construction. I remember we were paying $12.00 extra on our water bill to pay for something we rarely used. But when we did use it, it was a great experience,, and so quiet, it seemed.
Your right, Winston ,it never occured to me that property owners were footing the bill for the Metro, yet nowadays I complain at every tax grab they want, to fund everything or most things we don't use.....lol We even pay 3 cents per litre of gas (about 12 cents a gallon) to subsidize the transit system.(aside from the other tax's we love so much) hahahaha.. You reminded me of how our kids wonder why as parents we are always pissed off a Govt' & their taxs..... Yikes ! We have become our parents Cheers !! HF&RV
Well last time in....thing of the past clean....and now they have a new machine that takes your ticket and gives it back to you to use as a transfer.. no more little tickets no more paper transfer machines.. When I worked at CN we did the retro fit on these cars from 66. In the Point. A supplier told me that the new floors were designed to be stain free and grafitti free.. ok lets go with that..... if u have been in lately take a look at the grey floor and let me know... I have not been in the new retros on these ones since. They even took a Metro car on flatbed to the States for a Transit show years ago. Wish I had a shot of that.. Guy or Les maybe u guys can find one.

Read this story about the Metro .......
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=qYkxAAAAIBAJ&sjid=BKUFAAAAIBAJ&dq=subway%20cars%20go%20to%20transit%20show&pg=5897%2C535308
Is this the transit show ? They mention the 'grafitti resistant ' cars, but as the story says ,bet on the boys with the spray cans HF&RV
