Here is a photo of the"Prescott" jumping the Lachine Rapids in 1908 wich I have added to my photo Album No. 28. There is a short description of the event on the bottom of the photo wich is from the McCord Museum of McGill Univerdity, photo Notman Photographic Archives No. 4202. This photo is from a document we just received at the SHGV. The other photo is also from the Notman Collection. Click on the photos for a larger view and to be able to read the text.

Here is the list of "Steamers" that shot the Lachine rapids up the 1949 as mentioned in the above text:
Corsican*
Sparton
Rapids King*
Rapids Prince*
Express
Prescott*
I have 4 of the above steamers marked * in my photo album no. 28 but I am missing the photos of the Sparton and the Express. I have a photo of the Empress wich may have been the Express. So my objective is to have a photo of all the steamers that shot the rapids.
If someone could find me the photos of the Sparton and the Express for my album and our archives (SHGV), this would be appreciated.
The following steamers are also in my album no. 28:
Sovereign
Brockville
Duchess of York

Guy you may find some info on the Spartan, but you will need Adobe ..(which I'm sure you have)
but there's an article from the 1890 NY Times newspapers mentioning the Spartan,,...
here's a part of the article .
AN IDEAL SUMMER TRIP; SHOOTING THE RAPIDS OF THE ST. LAWRENCE. A VOYAGE THAT IS NOT NEARLY SO DANGEROUS AS REPORTED -- LACK OF SYSTEM ON THE CANADIAN STEAMERS.

Guy , I just posted a story ,again from the New York Times archives, about another Steamer that shot the rpaids, but it's name doesn't appear on your 'want list' I had never heard of this particular ship either,(although we have heard of a few getting stuck in the Rapids) but you may find it interesting enough to add it's story to your collection as well........
