Everyone is Irish on St Patrick's Day! Is the parade on Ste Catherine St still as "colourful" as in our childhood! Maybe the memory is enhanced by the passing years....Diane (Scottish descent)

Erin Go Braugh....My father was an "Orangeman" from Belfast. My mother was from Wales. But there are only two types of people on St. Patrick's Day..... Those that are Irish, and those that wish they were. So "Top Of The Morning" to each of you. So no matter where you are or what you are doing, may the luck of the Irish be your blessing today...

Although I now live in Northern Ontario, I will always be a Montrealer, and will never forget my childhood in Verdun. St Paddy's Day memories are of the Queen's Hotel, Hunter's Horn and Mother Martin's and of course the best parade anywhere .. God bless the Irish and those who wish they were.

My Grandmother's side was Irish - Devaney (O'Devaney). Miss those days of celebrating the day more than we celebrated Christmas actually. What a blast that was!

Just thought I'd come visit the site and say Happy St Patricks day to everyone here.
It seems quiet here compared to the old Msn site. I'm actually Scottish decent by close enough.
Were having a big St Paddy's party out here in BC, with a bunch of Verduners. It's this Saturday the 21st. a little late but better late than never.
Hi to you all.

Hi Sandra MacDonald welcome and to all visiting from other sites. For a quiet site it's not doing to bad. There has been 127 hits. With MSN I don't think you had that information. Hope your St.Patrick's day party is a great success.Maybe you can keep us informed.

ps There are about 175 pages of the old site's history that you have access to now.

Reminds me of the old song
" my father ,was Irish"
...and "My mother was Irish"
...and "I am Irish Stew"

Pauline I thought exactly that, that we have a lot of hits per topic,it's just that only the person posting the topic or thread, can see the traffic that reads the post,...It wwould be interesting to be able to see all the 'visits' I know some days I look at the boards & wonder if I'm typing for nothing, then in minutes I see a whack of hits, We just don't see the responses in a large window ,like we did on the other site, and it's sometimes easy to miss the small print under these windows saying 'comments' or 'reply' .......I would guess most of us rely on the 'In Box' showing all responses ,or alerts to replies on certain threads,....I do see a lot of stats, and it's quite amazing really,..but as on the other MSN site we had a lot of members & a far smaller number of posters, but we appreciated all of them whether they just read or post,......We also get a lot of Visitors ,who just like to visit, and nice to 'see' them here. Btw: Thanks for the posting this thread....... Cheers !!! HF&RV

Hi Allison,
I lived at Bannantyne Ave and sixth, right across the street from the A&P and the bowling alley. I now live in Vancouver BC, the shooting capitol of Canada right now.
Thanks for the compliment on the picture, my grand-daughter who was 4 at the time took it. The picture is five years old. Smac

Bannantyne and 6TH. Fish and chip place also. A&P..who could forget. Delivering groceries summer, spring, winter and fall....I guess we kids from Verdun did it all. Yes a lot of us moved west.. I am just down the I-5 from you. Just before the bridge that goes across to Portland Oregon. I have a niece and nephews and a widowed sister-in-law living there in B.C.

Hi Les, Irish Stews, Pea Soup, and Yorkshire pudding I am. Just to let you know that as of Friday 9:30 pm there has been140 hits so we are all here monitoring the activity, your hard work is not in vain. Some people are talkers and some are listeners and thank God for that. Some Blog and some don’t .This site has come a long way, from a very simple site to a mush more sophisticated site and congrats to those who made it this far. Believe you me I used a few hard on the ears words to get this far. Thanks to you, Diane ,Guy and Winnie and all the other bloggers who make my day.
Pauline

I can relate to a few of those words too Pauline,.I may have uttered a couple over the last few months too...(lol).. IAfter reading your post ,I now have started my weekend with a smile,Thanks ...
...now I have to mow my lawn today & fix my gate (wind blew it open & broke it the other day) might even get a chance to mutter or utter those words again ......hahahahaha

Wow, This site is difficult to check out. Is there no main spot where all the different threads are posted? On Verdunourhometown, you can see every subject you can read and reply to right away. If some of you like more activity, join both. Maybe VC can switch to Yuku, it is so much better. If the format here was similar I truly believe there would be more activity. I know I would come on here every day. I use to really enjoy all the subjects on the old site. Possibly I just don't know how to get around this site. I don't even know who ends up reading this. Smac

Sandra, you probably just need a little more patience to become familiar with this site. I guess it's just our age showing as we sometimes like to stay with what we know. Personally, after a little effort, I now find VC an easy site to get around and there is certainly plenty of activity with comments to blogs and interaction between individual sites. I've checked out Yuku & Verdunourhometown and I wasn't very impressed with the flow of conversation....different strokes for different folks as they say!...Diane
P.S. You live in one beautiful city...visited often

Sandra macDonald said...

Hi Diane,
Age has nothing to do with it! I've always lacked Patience. lol
Give me a run down then on how to get involved. The old site on Msn was very clear and you could read all the different subjects and respond etc. I really enjoyed the subjects to do with Transportation. Where are all our old post, posted? Does everyone just have their own blog......I'm soooo confused....Smac
Ps. you didn't like the music memories, or current events in YOH? I really enjoy going on there but also miss discussions about Verdun, which is something not mentioned too often.
ps. BC is very beautiful but there is nothing like the friendliness of Montreal folks.
