Habs are lulling Boston into a false sense of security allowing them to get up 6-2 on them ........................hahahahahaha hf&rv
Habs 2nd pre-season game in Robervale Quebec tonight ends 3-2 Habs over Sabres............ tomorrow it's Detroit, Mind you Habs were up 3-0 & Buffalo closed the gap to 3-2....... HF&RV
Les Check out the Gazette..I saw on tv last some of the things they are doing this season. Retro jerseys some are really nice..Kovalev had a nice one on he wanted to keep it. A stamp is being issued but one of the nicest is a loonie thats coming out complete with logo and all...they said 10 000 000 being made..a dvd on the team's season and one on their greatest games. Also an Upper Deck complete card series on the team. I think I saw 200 cards or so..make a nice gift..figure I will start dropping the hint around here real soon...Ring of honor around the rink, Team Halll of Fame, and outside a walkway of somesorts.Heard you can buy a stone or brick with your name on it....Makes me wish I was home for this..just to see and feel the excitement..They even sprung for a rink in the city for the public. Lad
Living in Windsor, I should have gone to last night's game, however it was a beautiful evening and the border is a pain in the ass. Last year I was nearly late for a couple of games, as the morons at homeland security tie up the tunnel buses going to Detroit. In Nov. the Habs are here for a regular game and the difficulty will be worth it. Is the team wearing any retro jerseys this year? Surprisingly, lots of Canadian fans here.
Go to www.thestar.com/Sports/hockey/article/505617. This article appeared in the Toronto Star this AM. Lots of good info on what's happening in Montreal this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary. Ron
WOOT! 100 SEASONS! YEAH! GO HABS GO!!!
Habs beat Wings 2-1 in another shootout,........... the game was well played by both teams ,and showed intensity more consistent with a regular season game rather than a pre-season one,.Carey price made a fantstic hi-lite reel save......as well as others...... Not a bad game, but Habs need some prolific goal scoring if they want to be making any type of decent long run ..... but of course it's a long season, and anything can happen. GoHabsGo ......HF&RV
Habs lost their 1st game of the season.................YIKES !! hahahaha I wonder if this gal was at the game: ....................... two of Montreal's biggest fans I guess.........hahahaha have fun & remember Verdun
Les Don't forget first home game tonight..paper said they are unveiling the ring of honor prior to the game. Also sporting different uniforms from history during the season. Lad
Hi Lad: Good to see a 3 to 0 score at the end of the first period in favour of the Habs. George
Hey Les & Lad: Still looking good after two periods.Montreal 3 Boston 1 George
Yes I don't know what happend here, but the Habs went into a Coma & let the Bruins back in the game,....They (the Habs ) have a knack for dominating a game & then caving in ,just to ad drama & win later in a shoot-out, I have said it before & I'll say it again , I am no fan of a shoot-out at any level, I believe it's a team sport & it's a team who get's you through 3 periods,...Play O/T for 20 full minutes or sudden death of course & then call it a draw/tie , if noone scores ( otherthan playoffs of course) . However Montreal's record has been good in these goofy showdown segments I still don't agree that a regular season game should be decided this way,..... What is wrong with W/L/T .........it worked for many years until Bettman thought that everyone had to see a win/loss game only Try getting in a fight & having your head pasted for awhile & you'll probably agree, that a Tie can & is sometimes as good as a Win..........................hahahahahha Ask George Chuvalo Habs win another shootout........which showcases either goalie or shooter....but it was both who got them there,& if the shooters were that good then they should have won in regular time or the O/T...........and vice-versa the Goalie would have showcased his best in Regular time as well...... Save the theatrics for the Allstar Game .............yikes !! HF&RV
Les: I didn't get to see the third period because I went out to celebrate my birthday with wife and some friends. Guess I'll have to watch the whole game in future to ensure they win in regulation time. Sure hope they don't fall apart like that in the third period too many times during the season. Luckily they got the win in the dreaded Shoot Out drama. George
Hi Les: Received two tickets from a fellow Lions Club member to the Florida vs Montreal game on Monday, Oct.20th. Nice birthday gift,eh. I phoned a buddy that lives in Dorval and he and I will take in the game at the Bell Centre. It will be my first visit to the Bell Centre. George
Hi George What lions club are you with . I am a past president of the Rockland Lions Club District A4
Yes that certainly a decent b-day gift, You will be impressed with the Bell Centre,it's not the Forum by any means, but it is a decent building,.....Nothing will replace the feeling of walking into the old Forum & seeing huge white ice surface, and those Stanley Cup Banners hanging from the rafters.......Now that was a great feeling ,knowing you were in the absolute shrine of hockey.......... I have two commemroative copies of the programs from the final game in the Forum & the First game in the new Molson Centre ( as it was originally called) ....they are a numbered series,.neat to have I guess. Enjoy your trip, it's a big place,I understand it's quite expensive for a bite to eat or a beer these days, but it is in all these new age arenas.......... HF&RV ps: i'll dig up those programs & scan the covers & post it here .....
Hi Fellow Lion: I'm a member in the Cardinal Lions Club - District A4. My wife and I moved here in April of this year and we were sworn in two weeks ago. George
I worked for Bell in Montreal and we had our favorite taverns - depending on where we worked in the city. At one stage in the 50s/60s, I worked with a group that favored the York Tavern which was part of the Forum building. Actually there were two York taverns - the big barn-like one with entrances from St. Catherine and Closse St. and another much smaller adjunct with a separate entrance further up Closse, which is where we Bell types drank. If we were there on hockey nights (and we frequently were) there was a little ritual that the waiters went through in the between-period breaks. The waiters, keeping an eye on the TV would alert us regulars that a period was about to end and that many (most?) of the the spectators were about to descend to soak up as much beer as they could in the alloted time between periods. There was no beer sold in the stands in those days. The waiters were alerting us regulars to order up as the pressure on the draft beer lines was about to be raised so that a normal draft was about to become MUCH more foamy. As they sold only draft between periods, this meant thousands of glasses of beer as it was a BIG tavern. And most people wern't picky about the extra foam. When they returned to their seats for the next period, the pressure would be reduced allowing draft with a regular head again for the regulars. Incidently, Molsons owned that tavern and supplied all the draft beer sold there. Cheers. Matt
Hi Matt: That was York's way of limiting the chug- a - lugging of beers so that fans would return to the stands feeling full but not be smashed. As you infer, the actual amount of liquid was less than when the pressure was turned down and the glasses contained more liquid. After the games the pressure was kept down. George
George Depending how good the seats are there is a section where the food is free and I think the beverages are too..Its all covered..Not down by the ice.Forget the section number. Have a good time and hope they win. Lad
George, That was Molsons' way of making MUCH more money for a given amount of beer. They encouraged the chug-a-lugging part Matt
Hi Matt: Maybe it was just me but I could not chug - a - lug a foamy glass of beer . However, a less foamy glass could / would disappear in no time. I remember a friend of mine could open his throat and swallow a whole glass in like 2-4 seconds at most. We use to go to the Pall Mall with little or no money and be able to drink the whole evening compliments of betting on him and winning free beer. LMAO The only problem was he was heavy to help home. George
Thanks Lad. I hope I'm lucky enough to find such a utopia. Haha. In any event just getting the free tickets makes it an excellent outing. Now I have to decide should I drive the two hours to Montreal or use my railway pass and take the train. Decisions, decisions. LOL George
I have to say I've drank many a draught /draft beer in my time (so far0 but it was never ever my favourite,as I far prefere a bottle beer to draught........... but as a kid sitting inthe Laverendrye pub/ the old Churchill,...I sat there one day & I was quite young (far younger than most would believe these days).......but I watched all the older guys ,my 10 year older brother included ,sprinkling Salt into their respective glasses............So I (being quite adult like) decide to sprinkle some into my beer.....................Mistake I put too much salt into my glass & then proceeded to take all night to finish my glas of beer, Not wanting to look like an idiot (already done I suspect) I made sure that I did not waste this beer...............................I after that always drank bottle beer & still do..............hahahahahah HF&RV
Hi Les: Got home from the Bell Centre at 9:00 AM this morning. Our seats were directly behind the visiting team's net and 14 rows from the bottom. Two beers cost us $19.50. Thank God we had dinner at a pub before the game.LOL The Bell Centre is a beautiful building to watch a hockey game. The centre ice scoreboard and screen is awesome. Took me awhile to stop watching the screen and look at the game on the ice. The Habs won and that made it worth the drive to Montreal. After the game my buddy and I went up Peel Street to the new Peel Pub and decided to leave at 2:30 AM. I grabbed a taxi and went down to my cousins apartment on Woodland Avenue in Verdun. Woke up at 6:45 AM and headed home in the rain. Overall it was well worth the trip to Montreal. Don't know why but I felt a little queasy this AM on the way home. (It must have been something I ate) LOL George
Yes $19.50 is a lot of do-re-mi, for a pint of suds........hahaha Sounds like you had a great time,.& I heard the game on the internet, it was a close one till the insurance marker in the 3rd. Beautiful buiilding, & not a bad seat in the house,.... A drive home in the rain ,doesn't sound like fun,but like you said a Hab win makes it worth the trip..... hf&rv
Hi George Glad to see you had a good time. I am also in distirct A4 . maybe we will see you at convention in Ottawa Roy
Hi Roy: We have a Zone meeting on the 30th of this month in Brockville. I did have an excellent time in Montreal on Monday night. Met up with some old friends and made some new friendships as well. The game was interesting because Florida gave Montreal a fight for the whole game. George
Hi again Roy: There is a good possibility I'll be at the convention in Ottawa. George
Les Just saw your post about salt in the beer..My first time in the Carb I did that too. Looked around saw some guys do that and figured o.k. why not..man o man like you said takes all night to finish it..hell I couldn't finish that one.No salt for me after that one.Could afford to waste it then the price was like a dime for 7 or 8 oz. 10 beers cost you a buck and with tip depending how "Happy" you were maybe a buck and a half..then downtown for some of the domestic bottled beverages...aahhh can almost taste it now.... Lad
Hey Lad: My memory is failing me. (again) Where was the Carb? I remember the name but not the location. George
George Alexis Nihon...ground floor...left in the back on way to metro.. Maidenhead was on same level when you come up the stairs and Bali Hi was upstairs....I seem to remember them when I walked by...hahahahaha Lad
Hi Lad: Boy do I feel stupid. It just wouldn't click in my head. (Sometimers, I guess) Thanks for reminding me. I use to loose my way to the Metro and have to sit somewhere to obtain my bearings. Of course I had to have a beverage or two while sitting. LMAO George
Hi George Apparently there were some guys who worked for the R.R. who have been known to have one or two beverages...one who comes to mind of many good stories is the guy who became my supervisor over the years.Pretty sure you would know him..no names here but married a girl who worked on the same floor..divorced later on.. He would tell me how he would go in the station after work(Bistro) later on they opened another one..catch the Metro and end up asleep..only to wake to the Metro being parked for the night..have to walk up the tunnel and go home... Good Times Lad
Hi Lad: Was the Supervisor's initials B. R.? The Bistro was the downfall or should I say the begining of many downfalls for railway workers that worked in CN Headquarters or the St. Lawrence Region. The Bistro use to have their specials and I can remember ordering two Rob Roys and four glasses because the specials were so big that you could make two drinks from each. The costs were very reasonable and you could go home with a glow on and not have spent too much. Hell the taxi ride was more expensive than the specials. The Greek waiters in the Bistro didn't like giving us the extra glases but since we were regulars it was hard for them to give us a hard time. The one thing I learned was to never take the last subway home just for the reason you mentioned. The taxi drivers in the station loved me. LMAO Of course when I arrived home the wife was not too pleased. George
George A.G.worked in opposite end to PMAC. Same office from almost the time HQ opened... Married H.M. for a awhile....her sister worked in the bldg.too... You must have known D.M. his dad worked PMAC. T.M. Lad Bistro was like a 2nd H.Q.
