Hi, wondering if anyone remembers John and his sister Joyce? John was a good friend of my brother's at one time and I hung out with Joyce during high school. I know they lost their mother at an early age in a boating accident. Anyone know their where abouts?

Hi from London (repost from Hi! board)
Hi everyone in Verdun!
I wonder if you can help me with a query?
It goes like this: my name's Niall, I'm 26, I'm originally from the North of England (but have moved to East London) and I'm trying to track down any family links I might have in Verdun.
My grandparents are from Verdun, but I never met them - my grandmother I think died when I was 2, in 1984, and my grandfather died as a relatively young man (I think he was 50) in 1950.
My grandfather's name was Hugh Cyril Harvey, known as Cyril. His parents were David Harvey (died pre-1928) and Catherine McAlear.
My grandmother's name was Mary Elizabeth Wynne Drysdale, known as Wynne. Her parents were William Drysdale and Mary Matzen.
They got married on 25th May 1928.
The next known record I have of my grandad is in some legal review of 1947/48 that's Googlable and in French. I can speak French, so I was able to ascertain that he was petitioning for a divorce in 1948 because Wynne had left him 15 years previously.
My father, a Cyril William John Harvey (John) died in 1993. From what my mother tells me he was born in Liverpool, moved over to Canada and then when Wynne left my grandad, moved over to Liverpool to be brought up by his grandma Mary Matzen.
These are some other facts I have...
1) My grandad was last known to reside at 1027 Willibrord Ave, Verdun.
2) My father's aunt (thus my great-aunt) lived at 457 Moffat Ave, Verdun, and her married name was Mrs George Leonard Buck. The letter I have regarding this isn't dated, and could be from anywhere between 1963 and 1984.
And the rest is speculation...
1) My mother tells me I have/had an uncle called Duncan Harvey in the area. He also had a daughter, my cousin, possibly a Jacqueline or a Kathryn, I can't remember the name properly.
2) My grandfather was apparently a local musician in the 20s/30s, and may have been in or led a Charleston band.
3) My grandmother's side of the family was apparently pretty well-connected and well-off in the area. No idea why, though.
4) I've got good reason to believe that Mary Matzen was Jewish, although I'm not 100% sure of this because Wynne was a baptised Protestant. Cyril wasn't, and they had to get special dispensation from the Archbishop of Montreal to marry.
That info-splurge is all! I'm aware that I share family names with two local historians in the Verdun area, Kathryn Harvey and Laurel Buck, but I've corresponded with both and there doesn't appear to be any immediate link with my family there. And I still need to buy a copy of Laurel's book on the area.
Apologies for the length of the post and if you have any relevant information you can email me at - sorry for this e-mail address - hugebollards@fake.gmail.com (please remove the 'fake', it's to discourage spambots from getting my address).
Many thanks! If you can help me piece together my family's history I'll be very very grateful to you all.
Niall

Gilles Vigneault.
I thought my thread would get lost in 'Misc', so I gave it more attention. Thanks Bob for your reply.
Bill
Anyone familiar with Gilles Vigneault? I believe this man may have married a sister of my Irish grandmother Annie Foy who died in 1938. I tried googling this famous Quebec poet to find out the name of his wife but failed.
I just a minute ago ordered a book written by his son Guillaume Vigneault from Amazon, hoping his contact info would be included in the book.
Isn't genealogy fancinating?

Familiar with Vigneault? Absolutely Bill. How neat is that, eh? You will have to get up to speed on "Mon Pays", n'est pas?

Hello Dan. I recently joined the Verdun Connection group and while browsing in various message boards came upon your name.. We both played on the 1961 Provincial Championship Verdun Steelers Midget Football team in Crawford Park. In fact ,at halftime, in the championship game against St. Laurent you collapsed on top of me in the dressing room because of a back/kidney injury you sustained. I still remember the name of the St. Laurent player that kicked you in the kidney area. (Maxi Habercorn) Luckily Dr. Rae Brown and Alex Duguid were there to assist you immediately. Do you rember that. By the end of the game the field was surrounded by the Verdun police force because they thought there was going to be a riot between the Verdun and St. Laurent fans. The team consisted of Bob Naylor,Gordie Devlin,Gary Cutler,Wally Straps,Danny Muirhead Larry Mehan,Pete St.Amour,Paul Ayotte,Murray O'Hara,Larry Gahan,Paul Tibodeau,Gerry Dugid, Larry Latimer,Malcolm Brown ,Jean Nadeau ,Charlie Dunn.myself (George Edwards) and you. I don't really have that good of a memory. I just recently moved and while unpacking found a 1970 Black & Gold Year Book that contains a bunch of team pictures from different years. I just wanted to say hello after all these years. Are you still in touch with any of the guys?.

Looking for Terry Kelly
My husband and I met through a mutual friend, Terry Kelly. Terry lived on Rielle, between Wellington and Verdun Ave. We lost touch with him years ago. It sure would be nice to speak with him again and tell him what a good match it was.....lol
Rhoda Stark(e)
For years I have been trying to find Rhoda Stark(e). She lived on First Avenue and we grew up together. Lost touch back in the mid-60's. If anyone knows of her would you please ask her to get in touch with me via email, if possible? Thanks a bunch!

Hello to all Verdunites
I'm new to this web site. Thanks to Robin Turner for introducing it to me. I grew up at the corner of 1st Ave and Wellington. Lived there till I was 17 years old, moved to Cote St. Paul for a couple of years, then moved back to 1st Ave. between Wellington and Verdun Ave. I'm sure many members will remember my mother, Mrs. Bérubé, who taught at St. Willibrord's School. She taught grade one boys. For anyone who does remember her, she passed away on July 6th of this year. She was living in Milton, ON, in a seniors' residence, near my sister, Claire.
I did my high school at St. Gabriel's Academy in the Point, so I wouldn't remember too many of the graduates from VCHS.
I hope that maybe some of you will remember me and get in touch. There is nothing like reconnecting with a long lost friend.

Hello Kay. Don't pass out from the shock of seeing who is contacting you.LOL I recently joined the VC group and have found it wonderfully entertaining. I believe it's about four decades since I last saw you.
Barbara and I just celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary on July 16. We have two grandchildren; Brittany is 15 and Alexander is 10. I was surprised to see that you hooked up with one of my oldest friends (not in age). Is Stuart's sister Edna still alive.
I see that you guys live outside Athens. We are not too far away as we live on the shore of the St. Lawrence river in Cardinal. That's about 38 kms east of Brockville. We only moved here in April of this year. Previously live in a small village west of Barrie (Angus) Like you, Barb and I are retired and enjoying life.
Hope to be able to see you and Stuart one of these days to rekindle old friendships.
Susan Holdaway
Hi Susan. Don't know if you remember me from 2nd Avenue gang. I just recently joined this group and noticed messages between you and Robin and Kay I believe. Sure is nice getting in touch with old friends.
