Habs Update

Habs beat the reigning Stanley Cup Champions,....the Carolina Huricaines,
by a score of  4- 0................................nice win for the Habs, and it gives Krystobal (is that his name??) Huet,............his first shutout ,so far this year:

.......................................Hope the Habs have a consistent year, and so far ,I think Gainey's pick of Guy Charboneau,as head coach, will prove to be a good choice,,,,,,,,,,,at least that is what I would hope for:

  9. End of 1st period,..........................................Devils up 1-0, ..............................................................................................Habs need to wake up a bit,............this is also the first time that NJ coach Claude Julien, returns to the Bell Center, since being let go by the Canadiens ,lasy year, and Gainey taking over, until Gainey appointed Guy Charboneau,as the new head coach of the Habs......................................................

    ReplyDelete
  10. End of two periods,....Devils still lead by one goal,....but it's now 2-1 Habs need a little more spirit,.......seem to be lacking sustain pressure,.....but they are a fairly fast team,..so with a few breaks ,perhaps an interesting 3rd perios,is in store for us,.... Go Habs-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Go

On a more serious note :(yea  right) it seems  that even in this day & age,............Segragation has once again reared it's Ugly Head,.......most recently in toronto,  it's happening even in grade schools now,..as evidenced by this recent school photo:   Absolutely Shameful,.............hahahahahaha

  13. Habs beat Oilers,.....but had to do it in a shootout(I hate shoot outs),but if your team wins I =guess that's all that matters,...but I still don't care for them.........................   Final score was Habs 3 ,Oilers 2...................

  16. Nearing the end of the 2nd period,.habs down by 2goals ,....I think the Ref's will need to run out & get some more whistles, for the 3rd,.as they seem to have worn there's out from calling ridiculous penalty's I wonder how the leafs would do at even strength,............every one of their goals so far ,as a direct result of a penalty,..except one of the goals, where the Habs player had just stepped back on the ice,.effectvely making it an even strength goal,..............................(did I mention I don't like toronto) oh oh ,as I'm typing this the leafs, just scored another one........(did I mention I hate toronto).............................   ....................................................................

  18. Canadiens win on the road tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who had many power play opportunities,& they also have the best (most effective so far) power play in the NHL ........but it wasn't enough as the Habs win 3-1   ..................................................................................................GoHabsGo !!!!

  19. Habs up 2-0 over the Minesota Wild  at the end of the 1st period,. Jacques Lemaire has done and is doing a good job with the Young Minesota team,........Remember Lemaire living in Lasalle for a while,,....and one of the things he used to do ,to perfect & strnethen his shot ,was he practiced with a very heavy puck,..........it works,...try even on your Golf Club putting a weight on the shaft of whatever club you want & you will see how much difference there is when you take it off..........  same as the weights on a baseball bats

    ReplyDelete
  20. I remember my dad putting weighted pucks out for the players to strengthen their "lifters" and "wrist shots".  I also seem to remember our garage door having these dents and pock marks all over from when my brother practiced in the driveway.   Anybody here play with or remember the "Ville Emard Hurricanes"?   Cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love that Mom45.   'lifters' & 'wristshots',............when we had to take our inevitable 'turn' in 'nets',......the standing rule was "Hey ,No Lifters",these were the impromtu games ,with all the kids in the neighbourhood........hahah It's funny that mo matter the sport,or season,We could put two teams together, and play as a team...........No language barriers,no size barriers, etc etc ....and We all had one thing in mind & in common, We wanted to WIN, hahahahaha.........................   ........and BTW  Mom45,.....you know what I always thought about people with a 'driveway',.......and Here's you with a Garage no less,.........You Were Rich Weren't You.......................hahahahahah

  24. Nice to see Guy Charboneau getting accolades from other players,..this is good news and falls right into line with the general consensus ,that Bob Gainey is building a team in Montreal ,that just may return to the forefront as a Winner,...............I love to hear this,.because it shows that Gainey isn't just in it for a quick buck,.............He really wants to Win,....and I bet he does, and Kudos to Carb for rising to the expectations  & confidence that Gainey has placed in him........here's a bit from the article on the Canadiens site:   Carbonneau’s success has not gone unnoticed in the Panthers’ dressing room either. He may not be a former Habs player, but veteran Panthers centerman Joe Nieuwendyk is nonetheless a card-carrying member of the Guy Carbonneau fan club. The 40-year-old did after all play with and against the former Canadiens captain over the years, sharing a Stanley Cup triumph with Carbonneau in Dallas in 1999. “Bob Gainey built our Stanley Cup team in Dallas piece-by-piece,” recalled Nieuwendyk of the former Stars GM. “And now you see him doing the same thing with the Canadiens from his players to his coaching staff.” With familiar faces from his days with in the Lone Star State like Carbonneau, Doug Jarvis and now Kirk Muller behind the Habs bench, Nieuwendyk likes where the Canadiens are headed. “Guy was a huge part of our team in 1999 and a great leader in our dressing room. I played with Muller as well,” remembered Nieuwendyk, who playfully flipped a puck into the stands in the direction of his old buddies as they took in the Panthers’ morning skate on Tuesday. “When I saw that Kirk was brought in, it made complete sense. I think they will all work really great together.” ........Read the whole story here if you like: http://www.canadiens.com/eng/news/redirect.cfm?sectionID=habsNewsDetails.cfm&newsItemID=5390 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Go Habs Go>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What a really good team of management they have ,sticking to their game plan, and working as a Team,.....no real wayward types, That's good to see, After their on ice practice in Verdun,.they boarded a plane and are off to beantown,...for a match up with their old Rivals ,the Bruins........ I wonder if some of our Boston, area members will get to thisgame,,,,,,, I have not been in the new arena (I imagine it's generic these days),..Nothing really compares to all the old buildings,.............and the Gardens was a real Zoo.........the fans love their Bruins,........and they Hated every other team........hahahaha  Oh Well   Go Habs..................

  48. Happy New Year to all of ye on the VC Site! Imagine the Tampa Bay Lightning overpowering the "HAPLESS HABS!" (3-1!) Tampa finally shows what they are really made of. (Canadians! Montrealers!) Someone else had to step up besides Marty St. Louis and Vinnie Lecavalier. Ahh, Richards, the Maritimer! So, Tampa has their Canadian Team! Huet did a super job, but alas, he couldn't do it all! I guess that Tampa after losing to the lowly Flyers of Philly, had to prove they had the "right stuff!" It was not a dull game! sez Victah en Floride

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi Vic,........yup Tampa Bay,  peppered the Habs the other night with 40 someodd shots,.......and Habs netminder actually kept the score reasonabley respectable,....although still a loss ,......Tampa did earn that win,.... Tonight they play each other again,..... so I hope tonights game ,goes in favour of the Habs,.........I certainly hate to see them not taking shots..........they were outshot 41-13,......not many teams, can win those type of games,..... The Habs practiced today in the Verdun Auditorium again,....and meet the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:30 pm tonight in the Bell Center,....... Bob Gainey was at the practice, and will be in the GM's box tonight,...hopefully that will inspire the team a little ,.....it's been a very tough month for Mr Gainey & family,..........I'm glad to see him Return,.

  52. You can catch the game on CJAD ..........'Listen Live'.... http://www.cjad.com/    ................I'm sure there is still a few 'Real Habs' fans still left out there, even though we are scattered all over the place,........                                       Frustrating though ,because RDS owns all the rights to broadcast the Habs games...& it's difficult to get out here at times...... so Radio's the way to go.............(just like being a kid again,& hearing the Habs when tey played in Boston via the old radio,at the head of the bed,...& our imaginations could recreate the game with all the clarity & excitement, of an HD LArge Screen TV................................ as I'm typing this the Caps have just scored,to tie it up at one apiece......

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yikes,.....entering the 2nd the Habs had fallen back 2-1 on the strength of Ovechkin,......now in the second the Habs appeared to score to tie it at 2-2,.but the goal is called back, and Koivu given a penalty,..on the ensuing Washington powerplay,...Ovechkin scores again to go ahead 3-1,then while they are announcing that 3rd goal,.the Caps slip in another one.....it's presently 4-1 Washington............(not a good sign,.) so it's out with Huet,..and in with Habershier................Well Never Give Up they Say, but I won't be 'doubling' my wager................hahahahahaha

Habs down by one so far,.......1-0 for NY after one: Seems odd seeing an NHL game at Noon (westcoast time),.......3Pm Montreal, but it's also a bit odd that Coaches Corner isn't on ?? Usually when CBC does these triple headers, they show the same format with Coach's Corner on,after each 1st period,..........but we are getting Cassie Campbell ,( a great women's hockey player, from Team Canada's Gold Medal Team in 2002 Utah, the famous 'loonie' under the ice surface at Center Ice,.during those Olympic Games,..which saw both Our Womens,.Team & the Mens Team win GOLD

It was a 6-4 final in favour of the Hometown StLouis Blues,....Good for them .......Many of the people that attended the game were people with a family, and they were thanking the Blues Ownership for doing this Free Food Day,....as it is usually very tough to go to game with your kids now,due to the cost,...so the food thing was really kind of helpful:///////   Nice to see them Giving Back,........

dinner sounds good. When I was a kid I'd fall asleep to the hockey game on Sat
nights, I ask if I could sleep on my parents bed which was part of the double
parlor. I could hear the game going and Mom & Dad yelling at the
    T.V.
For the longest time I couldnt sleep if the game
    wasn't on.
We called it hoochy night in Canada.

  93. Les. Even going to the Portland Winterhawks game is bad. By the time you pay parking, tickets, food, etc, you are talking about $100.00 for 2 people. The portland community(?), who ever they are, are expecting to get an NHL team here eventually. I don't see any big campaign by the public to making that happen though.

  94. Well after the Habs humilation to Ottawa on SAturday morning/afternoon,.. they are getting ready to play the Detroit RedWings,........(and they've been playing very well lately.................so it will be a test for sure: ..................a little early for the Silverware..............hahahahaha  but you have to think Positively

  96. That Houston Aeros Team picture is pretty neat, I had almost forgotten about them,.......with all the Howe's on it ,is some interesting old History....... I wonder where the where's & why's were ?...................hahahahaha

  97. Maybe "we" are back on track!  Go Habs Go! Montreal Canadiens netminder Cristobal Huet was spectacular Thursday, stopping 44 shots in a much-needed 4-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers before a crowd of 14,025 at Philips Arena.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Thanks MaggieMck,...I had forgotten about the game ,but did read about the upcoming match this morning then just plain forgot...... Glad to hear they won,...good for Huet to make the stops,.....but doesn't bode well for the habs to have allowed that many..... Funny thing I had the Ottawa-Vancouver game on in the background as I was having dinner,....and the Canucks won,......(I'm not a big canucks fan,...but they have been playing well as of late...so had the Sens for that matter) Thanks Again for the update..............

  99. Habs seem to be in a relatively steady decline,.they are only 4pts ahead of the leafs for the 8th & fianl playoff spot,.this is not a good time for decline,.but they have been on the decline for almost a month ,.now........Not Good There presently down 2-0 to the Sens,.who have ben on fire since Nov 17th?? They looked liked they were done,.and they've played terrific since,. Montreal on the other hand has gone from being on track for a real good season,.to a terrible one,,.....................................Hope they turn it around, but they better do it soon,..........Even Charbo........has been uncharacteristly less than calm about his teams performance,................ Habs just scored Steve Begin,........so it's 2-1,....now if the Habs can stay out of the box(which has been there nemesis),.they may ,yet make a game of it...........

    ReplyDelete
  100. #73,......................Michael Ryder,...........half way through the 2nd has tied it for the Habs........................2-2                                                   Hope this is the new trend............

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'll tell you one thing... it's hard moving as a young kid from Montreal to Ontario and being a Habs fan; then find out later as an adult, it's twice as hard to live in Detroit and be a Habs fan!! lol But I still proudly walk down Woodward Ave in Detroit sporting my Canadiens jersey!!! GO HABS GO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Habs are tumbling quickly,.............from one of the top teams in the East,.to trying to play for a playoff spot,.combine this with teams like toronto winning lately and Montreal on a 6 or 7 game losing streak,.they are really blowing any chance of having a decent season........I wonder what's hapenned?........ They are losing right now to the Canes,.(down by one)  still plaguing themselves with dumb penalty's,.....and missed opportunity's........... to top that pile of good news,.............they have now lost Huet (their #1 goaltender) for probably the season as he goes in tomorrow for surgery,...... I would think barring some real big turn around that this years Habs are done: ....................the NHL is a fickle place and many things can change in a matter of a short time,.but it does not bode well for the Blu.Blanc,Rouge.............

    ReplyDelete
  103.    I'm sorry that your beloved habs are not doing too well, but.....................................I'm semi happy that the MakeBelieves are doing okay ............well at least till Stanley Cup time comes around, eh!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hi Mom45 there will no doubt be some happy campers out there about to revell in the HAbs demise,.........too bad they did seem to have a promising team,.but I would rather see the problems be addressed right away ,instead of waiting for a turn around,...that type of thinking can keep you away from the Silverware for (40 years,or so)...........................hahahahaha When the Habs start showing signs of mediocrity it just gives me an extra hour or so to work in the yard, when we start getting into those spring months,...... Come to think of it ,.I've gotten alot of work done out there over the past few years................................hahahahahah

    ReplyDelete
  105. Les_F   Hey...there's a thought!  I wonder if we (I) shouldn't inform your other half that if she wants work done around the yard, house, whatever that she should tape a losing game for the Habs and just keep replaying it.  Naaaa....guess you would know that it's taped.  Sounded like a good  though.

    ReplyDelete
  106. how the hell could the habs fall behind the leafs...   geez, maybe the new kid..halak i think his name is...   maybe he'll be another saviour...   something has got to chnage...   they cant stay behind the 'laughs'..they just cant..   i'll fall into depression...

    ReplyDelete
  107. RDM  I have faith in the leafs to do the right thing & that's Fall ........ hopefully they will do it in the Spring..............................hahahahah

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hey les,   I hope you still feel the same about Guy Charboneau, considering they have slipped out of a playoff spot. I think he is relying on a defensive posture, and not focusing enough on offence. The defence is faltering and we've lost so many games lately. Something has to be done, the "scores" aren't putting the puck in the net. Would this losing be because the players don't want to play for Guy?     Mike

    ReplyDelete
  109. Les,   I always say that the Leafs win the cup in September every year. hahaha.   Mike

    ReplyDelete
  110. I don't think so as Guy was a player with success and not just a suit...... but i have wondered what is going on in Montreal for years ,.with no up front additions,....... Let's get a goal scorer ,.........I have a lot of respect for Koivu, his work ethic is impeccable,.but Let's get some size up there,.as for the others we have a few real floaters ,who seem to play, only when they wnt to..... My thinking would be to Get rid of them and change some of the direction of the team,.unfortunately a 'defensive' point of view seems to be perhaps over stated,.  We need a return to a Strong Defensive team, but one that has a quick transition thinking ,that as soon as you get the puck ,go the other way,.it's frustrating to watch at times when the team is passing backwards to 'set up' makes for some very precarious turnovers ,already in your own end,..... Remember the Habs of old a 3 basic rules                                           Skate                                           Pass                                           Shoot ...I can't tell you how many times I sit there during a game & watch as they squander a powerplay advantage ,.by Not Shooting at the net.............                                         YIKES..................................hahahahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yes ,But I get nervous when i see the leafs playing hard,.and were not....              the last thing I need is to have the leafs in the playoffs & were not ............................there's a lot of those 'closet' leaf fans out here, that come out in droves when they start to do well..............................

    ReplyDelete
  112. And....of course.....there's my other favourite......the SENS.  Oh my goodness, they are so

    ReplyDelete
  113. Mom 45,...........   I suppose you like the Pens too ,......your old neighbourhood kid's from there and he owns them.................  Super Mario                             Pens & Sens =  Mom45

    ReplyDelete
  114. Naaa.....poop on Mario.....hahaha.  I'll stick with the Make Beliefs.  Only like the Sens because I lived in Ottawa for 10+ years, and hey,  they're not chopped liver.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Linda ,Linda Linda.....................................first you have a bett(scratch that) an other half who doesn't like all dressed steamies,....and now you tell me your a leafs fan................................................I'm going to be sick....hahahaha and when we take yours & Gilles Motorhome across the country for a tour,.I'm not talking to you all the way through Ontario.......hahahaha (well maybe via the laptops ),.hahahahahah ..   Coming to a maple leafsa fan soon...................................hahahahaha   .....................................hahahahahah

    ReplyDelete
  116. Now who would you pick on if I didn't like the leafs????  Who, Who.....okay maybe my OTHER half, like he knows what's going on hahaha.  Now talk about fickle, he votes for whoever is winning at any particular moment in the game..... at least I stick with the losers, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Habs have a 3-0 lead on the CBJ's  halfway through the 2nd.......... no goals in the first,.......and now 3 by the HAbs in the 1st 10 minutes of the 2nd,..........................................I hope they end the 6 game slide,....but this team has fallen apart before in the 3rd...............let's hope not, also the new kid from the Hamilton Bull Dogs,   (Hagard >>>?????) something like that,..............Habs always seem to have a goaltender hiding somewhere.....................the GoldMedal Junior Goalie  Carey price is also a HAbs property........................now if we could at least get a forward, tall enough to get on rides at LaRonde ,we might be able to do something......... Old Gilette just bought a 400 million dollar soccer club in England,.so how about forking out another few mil for a forward,......

    ReplyDelete
  118. Habs have slipped back into their Coma,....and are now only 1 goal up ,.effectively blowing a 3-0 lead (can't be that much attention to Defense) it's now 3-2........................................early in the 3rd ,.Not a good sign

    ReplyDelete
  119. Well they hung on ,.so there recent win drought is over..............................

    ReplyDelete
  120. well Les..the habs are back on a winning streak...     hahaha...boston 3 laughs 0

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yes   RDM  but they nearly blew it again,,they had a 3-0 lead at the end of the 1st,.........then I came back in at the beginning of the 2nd,.and they had blown the lead ,down to 3-1.........they play shaky hockey,..... but they got some help in the standings with the Bruins beating toronto,(like you said),.....and someone else won ,allowing the Habs to leapfrog back to about 7th spot,.........  Scary stuff,.when they were at one time so far ahead,.  Watch for Gainey to make a trade shortly,.the deadline is coming up soon,.the 27th I think it is.............. Unfortunately they may need a more experienced Goalie ,.to replace Huet (who's gone for the regular season anyway),....I'd rather see a Big Forward,... but who knows ,.maybe this Haslack (is it>) that they brought up from the Hamilton BullDogs,.will work out,.he's got 2 wins now,????????? so who knows

    ReplyDelete
  122. Do you think they might have a new player on their team.....lol~~don't worry about the colour of the jerseys...they're the practice ones.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Habs down by one 3-2 less than a minute left,....Losing to the Islanders it looks like................................................can't afford these loss's at this stageof the game(no pun intended)......................hahahahah

    ReplyDelete
  124. Habs are .......................still in 7th place and sharing that spot with the Islanders who just had a big win.with this one (sort of like a 4pt game)

    ReplyDelete
  125. Well if nothing else goes right ,at least ,the Habs beat the leafs,.......and I don't have to hear to much grief.................................                                                       ................................Man, beating Boston is always nice, but the leafs,Oh yea!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Hi   I just missed it . Who did the Habs pick up on waivers from the flyers?   Lad

    ReplyDelete
  127. Michael Leighton off waivers from Flyers,..............??????  G ? I have no idea who this guy is,..another goalie??

    ReplyDelete
  128. Hi Les   Last night on channel 12 (on the dish) they said Habs needed a goalie to step in. Who is this guy? The rookie is playing tonight in N.Y. Did you see game last night? Turn channel 5-2 come back 5-4 what happened?   Don't think trades done. Did you know they have a couple of defencemen as free agents...Markov and Souray...I think Abieischer is one too not sure..   Lad

    ReplyDelete
  129. They could get a pile for Souray,..he's the only guy they've got doing anything lately,..as for Haberschier (sp?) He is too unpredicatble,.he can be great ,then he let's the leafs right back in it..............(not good for the ticker)...hahahahaha Samsinof............................If you can $6 bucks and a hotdog & a beer,.Trade him.............................................and lose that guys salary,.He's the epitamy of an under achiever,...................every once in a while he comes out of his Coma, and does something,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,too shaky

    ReplyDelete
  130. Les   Good one. Forgot about him..think they move Bonk?   Lad

    ReplyDelete
  131. I didn't realise tha Rivet was already off to SanJose (guess he knows the way).......hahahahaha Right around supper time, the Canadiens announced that Rivet was headed to the Sharks along with a fifth round draft pick in exchange for fellow defenseman Josh Gorges and San Jose’s first round pick at the 2007 NHL draft. According to Canadiens GM Bob Gainey, what made this deal attractive to both sides was how the teams find themselves in different situations with the playoffs looming   .....Looks like Gainey got a 1st round choice for this year,.......(not bad) plus a defencman too http://www.canadiens.com/eng/index.cfm

    ReplyDelete
  132. Les   Rivet still not playing.Got traded just as he was coming back from having pneunomia.(?) hope I spelled it right. The defenceman is up and coming and his salary will help the salary cap...draft picks always good. First rounder too..   Lad

    ReplyDelete
  133. Les   Great site on the Habs. Heard on TSN they are waiting for something from Mtl. Rumours of a deal..dont know how big..   Lad

  134. Habs losing to the Sabres ,......................6-4 at this point,.Habs plagued by penalty's ,.what has happend to discipline,.it's just not on this Habs team,... I'm afraid they are in trouble for this year,................ perhaps a big off season shake up?????   Who knows                                                                         halfway through the 3rd.......

    ReplyDelete
  135. I think the storm back east is playing havoc with the posting abilities here?? or it's biz as usual,.but i've lost a couple of nessages,.or had to refresh several times,...... Oh well,........................................   Habs Lose 8-6 to Buffalo,........ and now they meet the Bruins ,which is usuaklly entertaing to say the least,....but both these teams will need those 2 pts...........

    ReplyDelete
  136. 8 minutes + to go in the Second Period,.Habs behind the Bruins 1-0 but it sonds like Haslak ( or whatever his name is ) is doing his job,...I would say He's the new interim #1 goalie,...........Haberschier can't be blamed for all of yeserdays's goals,......but when your the Goalie and Eight get past you,.I gotta start wondering about your abilty to save a game ,........see Haberchier ,he's gone in the off season is my bet,.........good thing he's not getting the large dough...........(only that petty change Million and half or so stuff).....hahahaha ...and for that he doesn't bother getting in the way of the rubber I guess.......hahaha Maybe a good third period to come for the Habs,............but who knows?? They are again spending alot of time in the penalty box: Well Mammasan & I are off to dinner Downtown,.so I will miss the third ( or perhaps I'm 'saved' from it) .....Time will tell:    Have Fun Everyone..............................................................................

    ReplyDelete
  137. Well they crapped their pants again,..and lost to the Bruins .............. This Global Warming crap is really starting to affect a lot of stuff...... if the Bruins are getting Hot & the Habs are constantly cold,.then I think this is just an Inconvienent Truth.............hahahahahah                                           Habs are really facing an uphill battle now ,I'm not so sure they can do it,...........................hate to see the leafs get in and the Habs out Remember the days when a Habs fan wasn't ever hopinmg to 'make ' the playoffs,.they were sure they were going to win it.....................          I hate Global Warming...........................hahahahahaha
