A street in Montreal

Hello !

A street in Montreal

Is there someone who can give the name, the section of the main street and the intersection in that photo taken in 1937 ?

  2. Albeit the intersection is not given on the link http://www.imagescn.technomuses.ca/scenic/index_choice_f.cfm?id=43&photoid=38320446 I would agree with Guy: rue St-Jacques (then St. James) corner McGill. JM

  5. St.James street split off Notre Dame down near the old court. If you look in the distance you can see the curve. St.James stayed narrow and headed west past Place D'Armes to McGill where it widened. This is St.James and McGill. Place Victoria to the left.        Ed

  6. Look up to the right, there is a sign. this would be Commercial  Union Insce co.. further down  Royal Bank  360 St James. Left side Montreal Star,  Right side   insurance building,  next door Montreal City & Districk Bamk . Then Barclay's Bank 242, next door York Incse.  next to them Bank of Canada  etc.

  7. "This is St.James and McGill. Place Victoria to the left." Ed I agree with Ed The southern limit of Square Victoria was St. James St. in the following 1937 pic.   On St. James St., one can see the Bank of Nova Scotia on the NE corner of St.James & McGill (1937). JM

  8. Hi  JMH  .,that definetly solves the debate,..i did see this picture the other day as well,....and using the Bank of Nova Scotia as a focal point ,was exactly what I was going to do to find the exact location ,of the original picture,..it's amazing how we can start to doubt our memory, when we first see a picture ,we are positve ,that we know it's loaction,..then a couple of suggestions later,.we start thinking maybe ,we 've got it wrong.........hahaha Always Go with your first instincts..............Good Pictures ,the detail is always very good,on that CN site,.........They did have some good 'insight' to collect photo's over the years,.............I'm glad they did, .......now with all the Detective powers we've seen from our members over the years ,.I have to ask you the same question I asked Guy,.... (where are those 3d Cows Heads from the old Elmhurst Dairy)........hahahaha

  9. Touchy, You sure know the area, you must have worked there. As for me, I worked at the corner of McGill and Notre Dame at Tony the Taylor from 1950 to 1956. Guy

  10. Hi Les ! Definitely, the 3d Cows Heads from the old Elmhurst Dairy on Upper Lachine Rd is not an easy problem ! In the meanwhile, do you recognize this street ? (an important city in BC)   I wonder how it looks today ? JM

  12. JMH & Les,   The skyline in distance you can see the letters HBC - Hudson Bay Company Store now unoccupied since The Bay moved to The Eaton Center now known as The Bay Center. Hope they do something to preserve the architectural integrity of the old  Bay building. Great shot JMH!   Gary Victoria
