Natatorium Capacity
Looking at the current main page picture made me wonder.....what is the capacity of the Nat on a hot summer day? Anyone care to guess?
April 13th already! So far we have guesses of 500, 1200, 2000, 2700 and 2200. Two days left until the opening of the envelope! Hey Steve C, I haven't seen your guess yet!
Today is April 15th and the envelope is open! According to the offices at the "Burrough of Verdun" the official capacity of the Natatorium is 1174! Roy Molyneux was the closest with a guess of 1200. Good job Roy! Stay tuned for a new Trivia Question
Wonderful memories , thanks, I learned to swim there, used to go each and every day., remember the life guards used to put on a show on Sunday afternoons.
HI JIM THE GUYS WHO PUT ON THE DIVING SHOW AT THE NAD.. WERE DES FINLAY,,HANK BATTEN,, RICHARD AND CARL LANIELLE, THEIR FATHER GAVE YOU THE BASKET FOR YOUR CLOTHES AS YOU ENTERED ALSO HANK PARDY AND PHIL LACESS,, HOWS THAT FOR A MEMORY,,,CHUCK
speaking of the natatorium has anyone seen it lately.it aint the same.no more diving shows no more splash parties hell they dont have any more high board.must be a safety issue.I pass thru quite often in the summer and the crowds are not like it used to be.modern times backyard pools i guess.it still very nice though, the old building has been renovated but keep the exterior look. bim
hey chuck you must know my dad all those names u mention were household names in our house when i was growin up in verdun in the 60's.my dads name is WALLY LIDDELL,he still lives in verdun, hes 75.back in the day the whole liddell family was involved in hockey, football, female softball, and maybe so bowling leagues.anyone remember the bowling alleys on verdun avenue between manning and richard.it was gutted by fire in the mid sixties, its an office building now.(diperno insurance was there at one time), miles bim liddell
yep,, he was a big man,,in fact if i remember right all the Liddell men were big men, id watch many a female game at cement downs,,dated a tew of the ball players back then, used to enjoy watching the umpire Rex Turnbull, i think that was his name he was quite a show , with his outs and safe calls Chuck
if that was the one with the pool hall on the second floor beside a pharmacy I spent most of my teen years there and in the other poll hall near Desmarchais on Verdun Ave. I remember it cost 25 cents a week to reserve your cue
..and How about this posted by Our Illustrious leader,.......MaggieMck Just what is the Capacity of a Full house at the Natatorium,,,,,I now know the answer,.but I suspect it held many more,on some of those Real Hot Days,...when you had to either share a 'basket' or even had to wait till one was turned in,.....Remember that,....and keep in mind 'Rules' inQuebec about capacity,.or anything else for that matter, are as they say "Merely a Suggestion"..........hahahahaha (that was certainly the case on being of age to enter a bar"...........hahahahah Reply RecommendDelete Message 1 of 18 in Discussion From: MaggieMcK (Original Message) Sent: 3/22/2003 8:44 AM Looking at the current main page picture made me wonder.....what is the capacity of the Nat on a hot summer day? Anyone care to guess? ..........................Enjoy the old post,.and hope it reminds you of those Cool Swims in the Pool...................and if you got to stay 'till the lights came on...........Bonus Have Some Fun & Remember Verdun
What do you think ....Remember the big deal was trying to see how far you could swim underwater,....and also getting the warning to 'Get Off' the sprinkler in the middle to dive off,......but it was tough for those lifeguards to catch you once you did your dive and went into stealth mode with a 1000 other kids around,........hahahaha or walking over the 'super hot pavement' and short cutting across someones towel,.cause your feet were burning,.....Remember the cement was always real hot,...unless of course you walked near the pool ,where it was always somewhat wet,.....or you walked way out near the bleachers(seats) and it didn't seem to be as hot out there........and swimming when the 'Lights' came on that was Special Stuff,...........and yelling down to your friends from the roof while you were having a hot dog, & Remember this,...throwing down a tightly twisted bag of chips to a starving friend ..........hahahahah Highly Illegal,......No food In the Pool Area......
Can anyone tell me why Les_F's pictures don't show in his messages. SteveRedmonds pictures always show in his messages. Am I doing something wrong. For Les_F's messages I just get the picture box with a red X in the top left corner
Hi Wayne here's the one that was in that spot,....if anyone does want to see any of the pictures again,..no problem,.I'll post 'em again,.....if you ask,.... ..this is the one that goes with tthe msg a few back,...........
WestwardDaveyP,.....if your signed in , which you are to be able to post ,you should have no problem seeing any of the pictures posted in the messages themselves,..and of course in the Photo Albums ,.as well. If you are seeing a little white box, with a little red X in ttheupper left corner,..it is possible that it is taking time to load,...but more likely ,.as I explained to Wayne the otherday(yesterday I think),....I reove my own pictures after they have been up for a couple of days,..to give me more 'storage space' to be able to post more,..in future messages,.. HF&RV
This topic goes back a long way, back to 2003,started with MaggieMcks question as to what the capacity of the Natatorium was..........there's a lot of good comments from some of Our members who are not even on the planet with us now,and lot of others too...... The Natatorium was always a fun spot, I know it's Fall now, and the Nat is the furthest thing from our minds, but I just wanted to start bringing back old topics ,from way back, just for a laugh.......
The time frame is way out , it says I posted the previous msg at 12:02 pm....Impossible ,as I actually posted that message maybe two hours ago, & it is presently 8:12 pm,..so there's no way the posted time is accurate at all,it could ,at most been 6:02 pm (today's date,Tuesday Sept 29th , 2009) HF&RV

Hi Maggie hmmm 2000 guessing lol again
i will guess about 1200
Does anyone else care to venture a guess? On April 15th, I will open the sealed envelope and reveal the official answer!
I would guess about 500
Today is April 9. Only 6 days to add your number! Just how many bodies can the Natatorium handle at one time?
I think probably about 2700

I remember doing "My First Length" at that pool. It was about a mile long
and all 1174 people were in the line that I was swimming. LOL
Nice trivia out there Maggie.

what wonderful memories.....it is amazing Les how many people relate to those same memories....
What would really be neat is if someone recognized themselves in the outdoor photo of the Nat. Any idea of what the year would be? Cheers.
