nice aerial of decarie the traffic near the met was always busy right back into the late 60's I cannot imagine it has gotten any better.
You are right anonymous, Decarie was a busy spot, and as you got close to the Metropolitain it was a bottle neck. Either choose to go North or left onto the busy Metropolitain . The road North after Decarie ended was the gateway to the Laurentians before A-13 was built . Thanks for surfing by.
I like that old blue bonetts sign. As a kid just getting that far up the decarie past pare st or jean talon seemed like a big trip in the car. a whole new world that seemed so big, i guess as a kid we saw the world as verdun and it's busy streets .we thought that was it.so any trip either towards the laurentians or the other way towards plattsburg beach or the eastern townships was just exciting especially if you could get the window seat in the car .
Yes I agree (annonymous) the old Blue Bonnet's sign was a very recognizable landmark, along with the Orange Julep, and don't forget at the very start of the Decarie (even prior to the sunken Expressway ) there was the gigantic Mr.Muffler sign ,then further up were things like Ruby Foo's , The Stage Coach rest/bar Aka: La Diligence. You are right about the excitement of a road trip (anything away from Verdun that involved hwy travel) the world was just beginning for many of us in the late 50's and 60's you mention Plattsburgh Beach NY there was also the Fort on the border of Vermont/NY ,or Jay Peak in VT. and a little town called StAlbans (beach). I can't forget the Saxony Lounge,Rouses Pt. NY (mind you we were older teens by then) Anyway Thanks You for Surfing by......... Cheers LesF
you also mentioned Pare St. which is 1 street North of Jean Talon. I worked at Gestetner Duplicators for a time and had a blast riving each morning up the Decarie to get to work along with a few freinds who also worked there.early to mid 70's,after which I was headed West. again Thanks for Surfing by
